She is def channeling michael jackson. (Also shakira was around at that time but she wasn't in pop music yet, she was rock ish). Britneys dance moves are we call jazz funk or maybe street jazz. It's closer to Janet/paula than madonna. And in the beginning the clothes were supposed to be taken off by the people hiding in that black tent thing. But it was all messed up so she ripped it off herself, which was not planned. THIS made headlines. It's like the equivalent of WAP. No one really has technique anymore to do jazz. It's all more free style /street style which is just different than what artists used to do. She trained in technical dance since she was a little girl. Also in gymnastics. There's performances where she does splits, back hand springs, and high kicks (grande battements).
