1998-2004 Britney Spears was the last global international superstar. People were comparing her to Madonna & Michael Jackson at the time, she was the biggest superstar in the world. This was pre-social media and she was still so omnipresent. Anytime you went to a store, you see Britney on tabloid & magazine covers. Anytime you turned on the radio, Britney was on. Anytime you turn on MTV, Britney’s music videos played. Anytime Britney did something, she was international news. That type of star power doesn’t exist anymore, she ruled the world with a wave of her hands. She truly earned the title of “Princess of Pop”.

Yeah. I recently had retrieved my stuff from an attic, and one of them was a scrapbook which was a popular thing in schools at that time, to have everyone answer the questions for you in the notebook. One of them said, "Who is your favorite celebrity?". Almost every girl answered "Britney Spears". Her CDs were played the most, by a great margin, in our boomboxes and other music players.

Peak Britney performance wise. She was such a superstar right out the gate and she KEPT delivering. She wasn't just a musical artist she was a pop culture phenomenon. The fire in her eyes at the time was incredible, makes me so sad thinking about the way she was forced to perform later in her career. It wasn't just about her dancing, which was great, but it wasn't about the technical difficulty of the moves, it was about how she was able to connect with the music, the audience and her backup dancers all at the same time. Her charisma on stage was almost unparralled among performers.

This is clearly my favourite Britney performance. It’s one of the last times we saw Britney lead her dancers and truly believe in the product she was delivering. My ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE part of this is the contraption that is put in front of her microphone to manipulate the audio, as IF that’s where her vocal input was coming from 😂 she is truly a queen and we are so lucky we had her setting the standard for pop performances on the early 2000s ❤
