there's a movie called 8 Seconds about bull rider Lane Frost that was killed. While riding on the bull known as "Takin' Care Of Business", he dismounts after his 8-second ride but the bull turns back and hits him in the side with his horn, breaking some ribs and severing a main artery. As a result of excessive internal bleeding, he dies on the arena floor before he can be transported to the hospital.

Several of my high school students/cowboys appeared in the movie as competitors: shout out to Lipan, TX, near Stephenville, TX, Cowboy Capital of the World, home to Lane Frost, Ty Murray, Tuff Hedeman, Cody Lambert, and many other rodeo champions. Stephenville is also home to Tarleton State University whose rodeo team is recognized as one of the very best.

The cowboys use a sticky rosin that they heat up by rubbing their gloved hand briskly up and down their rig and that makes it sticky. Then they wrap the rope around their hand. Sometimes they get hung up if they flip over and create a bind that they can't let go of and the bullfighters often have to help get them loose. Riders often get hurt when they get bucked off due to how they land, or the bull may step on them. And sometimes the bulls are a bit temperamental so the bullfighters try to make themselves look like a easier target so that the cowboy can get to safety. Just this season one bull actually scooped a rider AND a bullfighter on his horns at the same time and flung them like rag dolls like they were nothing.

The strap is called Flank Strap, it makes the bull buck. The bull knows if it twists and buck it’ll get the rider off and the strap will be removed. I forgot, the bull riders can choose between wearing a helmet or his hat, it’s their choice.

Rodeo used to be more generally popular here in the US. It's become more regional in the last, oh, twenty-five years or so. Older folks like me across the country are still familiar with the basics. It started out as a way for ranch hands to show off their job skills; which is probably why it didn't catch on in countries that don't have a big ranching industry. I still like to watch it occasionally, just to see the talented folks do their thing. Interesting choice, BPR!

I live in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Home of the largest Rodeo event in North America, on the pro circuit. I've seen these up close and man oh man...these bulls are LARGE animals. Not sure why anyone would want to strap themselves to the back of one of these beasts while they tighten a belt around it's midsection to piss it off. Comes from old west traditions of course, but there is literally no reason to ride a bull, other than to show how crazy or stupid you are. These guys are a few bricks short of a house for sure LOL. Nothing like seeing some cowboys face meet the top of a bulls skull in mid ride....You can guess who's cranial hardness wins out there.

The bulls become famous and have their own fan club. Some you could react to are Little Yellow Jacket, Bushwacker, and Bodacious. Bodacious was so dangerous he was retired after a few seasons, but he was a smart bull who knew how to eject a cowboy.

But I don't think she'd offer the first guy 😉 * Yes, I understand that those rodeo bulls don't become meat for humans. I don't have a _steak_ in the PBR. Nor do I have a _beef_ with any bulls. @@BritPopsReact Irish Hurling is called the 'Fastest Game on Grass'. It's a 'stick and ball' game. Hurling is non-stop, end-to-end action. It's _extremely_ skilful, athletic and physical. Players are so skilled they score from a sliver of a chance. Hence players must be 'on their man' _all_ the time. The most astonishing fact about Irish Hurling is the players are *AMATEURS!* Here's a short 'Rules' video covering how the game works (720p video) (just watch until 2m7s): - 'The Rules of Hurling - EXPLAINED!' [2015] (4m0s) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJqplJqLd55rpNU Starts with facts, then snippets of game play for all 'does' and summarises don'ts. Game play is covered by 2m7s. You could stop then 🤔 After 2m7s, it's 'dry'; covering restarting play, fouls, and penalties. List of Fouls at 2m43s. Penalty rules have changed (no defenders). This is the most popular introduction to the game and rules (poor, 360p video): - 'Hurling - The Fastest Game on Grass' [2009] (5m21s) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip7dmqmImtmYoqc There's an error (players can run 4 steps holding the ball). Also it's so old that they don't mention since 2010 all players must wear head and face protection. IMO it's not as good as 2m7s of 'EXPLAINED!' on rules. However, it does Hype the game. So it makes a good reaction video. Note: Senior inter-county matches last 70 minutes, the rest are 60 minutes, played in two halves. After either video, you could watch a game and get it 🤔😃 You might enjoy watching 5½ minutes of a _real_ game, for example this Epic: - '2018 All-Ireland SHC Semi-Final: Cork v Limerick' kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKa3ZJ14oZ1giqc (from 3m12s to 8m43s, game clock to 5m21s ) Five points are scored in 5m21s It amazing. They cover ground at breakneck speed. Or, you might like to watch a short video concentrating on game play and skills: - 'The Magic of Hurling II HD' [2019] (3m41) kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2K5qGlsj9hjmrM High quality video (1080p) showing players' speed, and highlighting skills in slow-mo. There's no explanation of the rules. WARNING: If you watch a live game, use the toilet before starting. You won't dare pause or miss a second. Have plenty of 'fluids' and snacks on hand; watching hurling burns calories. 😃😃

@@BritPopsReact There's a 'Basic Rules of Hurling' 'poster' which might help you quickly understand the game. Using that title in a search engine will get you close. Look for an organisation called something like 'regulators hurling'. Then use 'about' then use 'rules'. The poster has an orange background with red writing. The game is covered in the first two columns. Under the 'poster' are lists of rules and facts. However, the 'poster' is easier to skim. The most important 'rule' is *There are NO Offside Rules.* I've tried to post a link in a reply but it isn't saved, so I emailed lockdownbrits ,,, You should be able to recognise my yahoo address 😄 Happy New Year to you and your families. 🎆🎇

Guys it is too late now, but I would have warned you off this one. Bull riding is pretty brutal. On a new level of crazy. Maybe you will like it. All bull riding isn't this bad. And legit rodeo is nothing like this at all. 8:13 I think the closest to the UK is they are thinking of an event in France. Maybe the reason there is no PBR in the UK is more common sense? However, there are probably some hard core fans over there. 10:36 There is always a risk in any sport. But few sports have 10-20% of the participants have had most bones in their bodies broken. It is truly on of those 'Hold my beer, I've got an idea' moments. Which is probably how the sport started in the US or Mexico. You guys should probably stick with 'Mutton Bustin'. It is the same thing but with little kids riding sheep and very fun to watch. 😀11:47 Top riders make big money. On average, you would probably be stunned how little a bull rider makes.

@@BritPopsReact Yeah, I kinda knew I'd jack up the sensitive types. The bulls are very well cared for, these are not delicate fragile creatures. The ropes agitate them, NOT torture them. If that were the case the S.P.C.A, PETA, and all those folks would have shut it down long ago. You saw all the big name advertising, NONE of those companies would want to represent a cruel sport. This is not the same as Spanish bull fighting, which is disgusting. The bulls are bred for size and bucking. The guys in the arena they referred to as "bull fighters" are what used to be called "rodeo clowns", their job is to protect the rider by distracting the bull. The ranches are inspected, the arenas have veterinarians on hand, it LOOKS gnarly for the bull but these are 2000+ animals that make MILLIONS of dollars for the owner. Why would they want the money maker hurt? There it is. I am not an expert, I don't have anything at stake either way, truth is truth though and truth gets twisted when you involve snowflakes! Sorry chaps, but this needs to be banned. The bulls buck because they are in agony from devices called bucking straps. That is what they are trying to get rid of - they probably don't even notice the rider. Bulls frequently buck so hard that they break legs or even their backs. This is why there is a score for the bull as well as the rider. A bull in greater agony will buck harder and that is seen as a point in the rider's favour. Hence the score.

Another strictly American pastime, (see lawnmower racing). Do you know how they make the bulls buck like that? They tie a cinch around the bull's testicles. Not to put a damper on your video-I know you're just showing a bit of Americana, but I have a problem with any activity that uses animals for entertainment, eg: bullfighting, animals in a circus, even horseracing or greyhound racing. Some may call me a bleeding heart or a killjoy. Sobeit. There I go being cranky again😒

Hey, the bulls actually are treated very well. Before you judge go to a bull ranch and see. I used to get crazy pissed (I am a Greenpeace soul, with a PETA heart), until I learned the ropes are NOWHERE near as tight as you think. The bulls are themselves worth MILLIONS of dollars and cowboy's are actually very good to their stock. There is a PBR bull ranch near me and those dudes love their animals very much. Bulls just aren't super cuddly back! Hope this helps you. From one bleeding heart to another. Peace, love, and kindness to all!

@@chueysmama2622 And the bulls in Spain queue up to have darts stuck in them and a sword pushed through their spinal cord. The band is exactly as tight as is needed to drive the bull crazy with agony. You may not have noticed that it was perfectly docile until the band was tightened and it charged into the ring. Now kindly stop talking garbage. This is a cruel sport.

@@chueysmama2622 The flank strap is not tied around the bulls testicles, it's tied around the bulls waist.
