The beginning is a boy soprano named Guy Elliot, the second part high vocals was Tom Williams in the origanal version because Anette couldn't sing that. Floor wanted to sing all the high parts, but Tuomas wanted to keep the First Boy soprano in it.

Hi friends 😁 the song is about depression and it is also musically composed. Just like depression works. Rapid mood swings. From anger to resignation, doubt, hopelessness to death. Tuomas once said he killed himself in the song so that he would not do it in life. What this really is for a composed masterpiece shows, among other things, the place where the boy says "3 minutes counting". From this moment it takes exactly 3 minutes until the pendulum (guillotine) falls and Tuomas makes the suicidal hand movement. The beginning was sung by a boy, as well as the spoken lines were spoken by a boy. The song starts with the "in the end" and ends with "the beginning". Tarja was Tuoma's muse and friend since childhood. The nonsense with love comes all from the hate corner. Tarja fans who have not coped with her Exit .

Tuomas wrote this song in a for him terrible time (deep depression), but he was so precise that after the words 3 minutes and counting it is exactly 3 minutes that you see him slash his throat with his hand and commit suïcide in the song. Lucky for us he didn't do it for real and can we still enjoy his great musicianship. BTW Tuomas only loved the voice of Tarja and they grew up together. So there was a long time friendship, but nothing else

The beginning was a child lads. This song is a masterpiece of composition. Tuomas has his keyboard angled that way as it’s easier on the wrists to play while standing up. BP2 mentioned the keyboard stand that looks like pipes and Tuomas used that on the Imaginaerum Tour. The Wembley show was part of the Endless Forms Most Beautiful Tour and the stand looks like a tree. Behind he has 3 Korg keyboards. The Kronos, Karma and N364
@pro-v7500
@pro-v7500 2 жыл бұрын
To expand about the tree-like keyboard stand with regard to this tour promoting the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album: EFMB marks a turning point in Tuomas’s writing inspiration, from fantastical in content to reflection of the natural world (Shudder Before, The Beautiful The Great Show on Earth, Weak Fantasy, etc.). His choice to use a simple tree-like structure is pretty in the nose for the inspiration of that tour’s album. However, I think there’s a bit more subtly to it too. The manner in which the tree is depicted looks very similar to the crucifixion. I think this is a subtle use of satire to show how mankind has crucified the nature world in the name of organized religion created by man. Also it looks like a ship’s prowl ornamentation and he’s just the captain sailing his ship through the high seas of music lol.

Hey guys! Amazing song, eh? Floor's breath control on this is insane. When you do the Greatest Show on Earth, please, please please do the Tampere version that is 21:29 long. Listen to everything, right through the end credits! This version is outdoors in Nightwish's back yard of Finland. There are other versions that get hyped because Richard Dawkins comes out on stage at the end, but it is NOT as great a show. Good, but not great! :) And since you are going for the GREATEST!!! :P Lots of other reasons for the Tampere too, but I won't spoil it for you two. Thanks again, and cheers!
@donepearce
@donepearce 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I have to disagree. All the Tampere one has to offer that is special is the fireworks. Wembley is musically superior, particularly Troy's guitar/cello parts). And of course persuading Richard Dawkins to participate was an amazing coup.

@@donepearce Disagree all you like, you are just wrong, ESPECIALLY about Troy's parts. That is what bothers me most on that one. And I don't give a darn about Richard Dawkins. Not whatsoever.
@donepearce
@donepearce 2 жыл бұрын
@@shawnski001 Really? That strikes me as an odd viewpoint on Troy, but it's yours so I can't say you are wrong on that. But on Dawkins you are utterly wrong. Troy brought Dawkins to Tumoas's attention when he gave him a copy of The Greatest Show On Earth. Between them they wrote this to celebrate the book, and wrote a real letter - not an email - to Dawkins asking if he would narrate parts of his book for it. He loved the song and agreed. It was quite a coup for them when Dawkins agreed to appear in person for the Wembley show. That alone should be enough to make it the version of choice, quite apart from the musical superiority and the electric Wembley atmosphere.
@shawnski001
@shawnski001 2 жыл бұрын
@@donepearce I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT RICHARD DAWKINS. His words are throughout both performances, that is enough. If anyone wants to see that alone, they can check it out separately. And no, the Wembley show doesn't have "musical superiority". The Tampere performance (and atmosphere) are by far superior. Just stop.

Emppu is a nickname for Erno Matti Juhani Vuorinen with the ppu added as a diminutive. The end of the Tarja era. The beginning was a young English soprano choir boy singing. Now you know why it is important to understand the back story. You both seem to have basically understood the emotional journey for Tuomas. This goes way beyond a song. It is an artistic masterpiece. No other metal band would produce something of this magnitude. Foer something not really in your wheelhouse, you gave it a great score BP1. A 10 from BP2. Wow!!!!!! ☝🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂

Tuomas fired Tarja is a very messy way in an open letter listing every thing she ever did wrong, while Tarja was popular like Lady Diana. The media fried his ass...even the Finnish PM voiced his opinion. Tuomas had lost a friend, his innocence, the singer of his band, the entire repertoire was written for Tarja's unique style (no one else could sing it..or so they thought), the popularity of NW took a nose dive way below zero. He thought Nightwish (aka "the Child") may never recover from this.... He wrote 3 songs in anger: anger towards Tarja (Bye, bye beautiful), anger towards Tarja's husband Marcello (Master passion greed), anger towards himself (The poet and the pendulum)

This is a masterpiece and one of my favorite songs. The first act, is a recorded track, sung by a choir boy. The very end, where Floor sings the notes after the final lyric, was originally a backing track of a choir as well, but Floor took it on and made it even better. This is a death, a death of part of Tuomas, of who he was before this devastating period. A suicide by lyrics is a pretty good analysis. It is also a new beginning, where his parents helped pull him through, and start something new. I consider it Tuomas’ magnum opus. Greatest Show on Earth is another epic journey, that has in some ways, has replaced this in performances. They only performed this song 20 times with Floor, and not since 2016. Without Marko, and time passing since this period, sadly, we may not see it performed again. Keep exploring Nightwish. There’s still much to discover.

Hello The song "The Poet and the Pendulum" is a 13 Minute journey through the mind and turmoil of Tuomas Holopainen after the year 2005. It was in that year the band parted with their long-time singer Tarja Turunen and had a personal falling out with her. The pain of the separation was big on both sides, and shown in this song. There is guilt for what happened, there is the responsibility that the band and Holopainen had to show towards the fans,. It was the End of an Era for them, and reason for Holopainen being lost as described in these lyrics. We can only of course to a certain degree suppose how much of these are truly Holopainen's feelings, wishes and pains - but we do know that the lyrics of Nightwish have been up to then very personal. Other songs on the album also digest this separation and falling out of the members with Turunen. However personal and "real" these thoughts are, I feel like this song definitely takes us not only on a journey with Holopainen but also into ourselves. The music underlines the emotional gravity of the song extremely well. And I believe a lot of people can actually relate to a sense of guilt and being overwhelmed that all they desired for is the safety of home and innocence. While being personal, the song can still ring true to it's listener. That's a quality Nighwish possesses in many, many more songs. The emotional journey is one we can all share and very few bands know how to put that journey into song and especially into sound as well as Nightwish does. The band remains through all it's shores and Oceans, one of my main favourites and I hold special place for the band in my musical heart. I hope you have enjoyed reading my analysis and share some of my thoughts. If you do have any comments, please feel free to let me know. And remember the beauty of interpretation is that it is subjective; we can see all and feel different things in the same song and continue to love it endlessly. Lyric analysis by Annika Hausen Greetings from the Netherlands

I feel the parts are stages in the mind of a person with suicidal thoughts: I *White Lands Of Empathica* : Traumatic loss of innocence/security II *Home* : Raging thoughts of self hatred and a feeling of being uprooted (longing for home even if you are already home) I II *The Pacific* : Acceptance of the fact death is the only right answer to your problems, romanticising how peaceful it will be if it just all stops. IV *Dark Passion Play* : raging thoughts about actually committing suicide and how it will settle the scores and what will happen after your death V *Mother and Father* : getting help , being granted forgiveness and not committing suicide.

No romance there but they knew each other from the beginning of school.. so knew each other for a long, long time. She was with them when they grew into this magical band, so many emotions and feelings there for sure.. and then she met Marcello and it all went downhill for the band as a group but she's stick with him so they made the right choice for everyone and for the band. She never meant to stay that long with the band, cos she wanted a career as an opera singer. I hope she will some day get roles in opera.

We’re on to pt 2, my gosh her voice is remarkable pt3 this is so theatrical, it could be a full rock opera. Pt4 The difference between the separate voices, is vast, but together, sound so sweet. Nightwish are a very happy and honest band. Unlike other rock/metal bands they smile, not snarl. And if they are not on the stage, they are not playing. That's why they are always walking on and off, so as not to give the impression it is them playing when it is the backing track. Floor was not on stage at the beginning, therefore it was not Floor who was singing.

From what I have read, the relationship between Tarja and Tuomas was a friendship. Emppu is also friends with them both for many years. When you see the emotion at the End of an Era Show (Tarja’s last performance - but she did not know that - then they gave her the letter). Watch Phantom of the Opera and Jukka (drummer has his head in his hands), Everdream and Tuomas covers his fave with his hands and takes a moment knowing it’s the last time Tarja will be singing with Nightwish. You two are so relatable because you aren't so worried about being polished and perfect. Never change, you're great just the way you are. And it's ok BP1, most young folks have the attention span of a garden gnome, you're not alone ;-). I kid mate, lengthy musical diatribes aren't for everyone. Yeah so I'm not going to repeat everything that the army has already posted, in regards to the history of this particular piece, aside from saying that it is probably one of the most pivotal pieces of the bands history. "That which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger", but man did it almost kill them. Floor actually talked to Tarja before agreeing to sing this live. They're not "besties", but they are on friendly terms so she wanted to make sure that she knew it wasn't a personal thing from her perspective, she just wanted to do the part justice. They talked it over, and by this time Tuomos and Tarja had begun speaking again as well so that made it a bit easier. (Not at the time the song was written, but by the time Floor was going to sing it I mean). The band takes turns to stand with Tuomas to make sure they know that they are all with him, it was a band decision after all, it wasn't Tuomos alone who fired her, the whole band agreed and signed the letter to her. Floor pours her soul into this song like we rarely see her do, since it means so much to Tuomas. Time can make things hurt less, but this wound will linger for who knows how long. You know me, love to see any NW on the channel, but this...this is absolutely my favorite NW song. Brings me to tears every time. Thanks for taking it on. Daniel

@Daniel O'Sheigh That was a funny comment, made me laugh. To be fair to BP1 his attention span in this was epic and he didn't moan once. To be fair it seemed to go by in a flash and that seemed to be the fastest 20 minutes ever. Also, after he has done this song, there is nothing he can moan about being too long again. Thank for the nice feedback too. All the best

Thank you guys! "Emotional" is like an understatement. Thank God he decided to kill him self only in the song. Sometimes Tuomas asks to turn his ear monitor off. This is "based" on a "book" by Edgar Allan Poe. There is a version with even darker lyrics written by Marko. You have to remember that all three "founding" members, Tuomas the founder, Emppu and Tarja were/are childhood friends from a remote Finnish village (population like 10 people) so it is hard to break up. If you want something totally different about the same subject: "Bye Bye Beautiful". Marko is raging like never before.

Well done lads, you two have come a long way! Can you imagine this song being one of your first Nightwish reactions? Floor’s empathy makes this song extra special. When she sat down to sing she went to look at Tuomas and nearly lost control of her own emotions as she is highly sensitive and knows this is still painful for Tuomas.

awesome reaction. This piece has a very special place in my life. I know the back story but this piece is also an anthem for those people with mental health issues such as depression with suicidal thoughts, Yep I am one of those! Also in the Pit and the Pendulum Poe talks about the point at which you both give up hope and accept the end, which you really get the sense of in this. If I may I would like to give you my interpretation of the lyrics and what they mean to me. The first part, which you note starts with the words the end!! Is taken from Stephen Kings Tower series, the white lands were the home of a type of vampire that fed on emotions, (empathy), so a person left feeling nothing, empty and without emotion. In the second part, those lines expressing a feeling of futility, all same old same old yet, hating how you feel, then the verse seems to express the effort of trying to pretend to be ok, hence those two faces, one for everyone else and the real one that is private, no one to turn to for help as the people around you seem as upset as you so no shoulder to cry on so you just carry on pretending becoming that whore for the cold world. Then there is the remembering back to when all was good, yet you cannot get there despite everyone telling you “you are ok, it will be fine” till those words just sink you even further into the mess. Then we have the Pacific, oh wow, the wishing and planning stage, the beautiful sea, just wishing it was over, that you could be under the waves, beneath the pain tucked into that beauty., last goodnight kiss and a valentine that ends everything. Then that part that starts with being afraid, being raped, not in the traditional sense but feeling violated, alone and bloody scared, For Tuomas, feeling that those who he felt should have been there for him somehow betrayed him, a not uncommon feeling with severe depression, feeling that even life betrayed you, also again the mention of the tide and drowning, many see it as the perfect death! On a side note here, three minutes and counting, yep exactly three minutes to the point that Tuomas simulates the blade. Here also note how the music becomes chaotic, mirroring the thought process of someone planning their own death, no logic, well there is but only to the individual. Yet also a sense of excitement and of a journey, proceeding the calm. Then the passion play, traditionally passion plays were performed at Easter and were about the death of Christ, and Tuomas plays with us a little here, “second robber to the right of Christ! Well at the crucifixion there was only one robber either side of Christ but in the painting The Last Supper the person second to the right of Christ is Judas!!!!! Then of course the symbolic death and the slowing faltering heartbeat. The beginning or last part of the piece are the words that brought Tuomas back from the edge. In his case words from his parents but many of us will have people who were there at just the right time and who cared enough to be the rock and love us enough to hold on. If there is a message in this work surely it is to be kind, to look out for each other and if you can be there, you never know you may just save a person’s life. As someone did mine.

Seconds later you see Emppu saying thank you to someone in the audience who thanked him for checking on Tuomas. The primeminister did endeed comment publicly that Tarja should not leave the band, that idiot should have kept his mouth shot...he just gave the press more oil on the fire and it all turned out so discusting. Tarja and Tuomas was friends from childhood and that was most difficult for him, he lost a very good friend, more than that we don't know and we don't need to know. The heavy burden on the band was her husband who almost destroyed Nightwish, so to get rid of him they had to get rid of her. Would love to see you react to Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust (their most well known song and the music video got voted as the best Finnish music video ever back in 2006 when the song was released). Truly an underrated band from here in Finland. Also a band with many different sounds all the way from slow melodic songs to full on rock. Although if you want to immediately hear a song that showcases how crazy good the lead singer Marko Saaresto's voice can be (and while his vocal range might not be the most dynamic out there he is an amazing example of what you can achieve by having absolutely perfect control of your vocals especially the raw emotion that his voice is able to convey) then i recommend listening to their song Daze. His vocals on the chorus are something out of this world. I just think that so many more people would love their music if they just ever heard them but since their from Finland it rarely happens. Although many have heard their songs in Remedy's video games Max Payne 2, Alan Wake, Quantum Brake and Control (Also every single reactor i have seen reacting to them has been pretty much blown away by their music so i'm very confident you'll like it) also... also... lot's of deep and meaningful lyrics and wordplay in their songs sorry for the long rant i just really want more people to know about them :D

Being Brits you would know the TV series: "Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy" with Sir Alec Guinness, the boy soprano at the beginning was very similar in feel, "Innocence". Marko! The swinging blade! To be able to write out your anger, guilt, hate, all sorts of emotions, for the public, ooh! "Mother and Father" their words sung by Floor, with Marko and Emppu sitting around Kai, then Floor stands up. "Bleed no more" as she looks over to Tuomas. "In the end I will always love you", Marko moves over to Tuomas, and joins Emppu, supporting him. Hey chaps, I don't think Emppu is having fun with Tuomas, more like he's seeing if Tuomas is coping and holding it all together. It is written backwards, although each section itself goes forwards of course. The White Lands of Empathica is an arctic tundra located in End-World from Stephen King and you probably also need to be familiar with Edgar Allen Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum. Did you count the three minutes of counting ? Broadly, Marko part is illustrating the backlash against Tuomas to my mind. The final part, "Mother & Father" - the beginning, is almost verbatim of what Tuomas parents said to him when he confided in them. Oh, the front of his keyboard is Groot, you can Google that.

It just makes more sense to me personally looking at the sequences in reverse order from when he confided to his parents that the vilification from the fans and media was too much to cope with, together with the loss of his world, Nightwish, and he seriously considered taking his life, his parents try to convince him otherwise. The Poet and the Pendulum was written after firing Tarja the original singer. She was the face of Nightwish at the time, and Tuomas considered her a muse to many of the songs he had written at that point. They had also grown up in the same city and knew each other since early childhood. All the band members decided together to fire her for acting too much of a diva. According to all the band members, Tarja was missing lots of rehearsals and would not even travel with the band anymore. Tuomas was painted as the devil by many fans, and went through a deep dark depression. He even considered ending the band and committing suicide. He wrote The Poet and the Pendulum at that time, and actually kills himself in the song. He said he killed himself in the song, as to not do it in real life. To this day every time he plays it, it takes him back to those feelings, and shows on his face. In the last part, Mother and Father, words are sung to him that his real mother said to him at that time of his deep depression. One part that touches me at the end when the guitarist Emppu and bassist Marko, the only other two involved with firing Tarja (that were still active with the band)were standing with Tuomas at the end in solidarity and love. The Open Letter to Tarja is the letter the band gave to Tarja dismissing her signed off on by all band members. nightwish.fandom.com/wiki/Open_Letter_to_Tarja_Turunen

About the episode of Tarja's resignation, you won't understand the negative reaction that fans and media had against the band in the past if you only see the resignation letter that the group wrote. There are other important sources. I'm going to summarize the story for you to understand why people's reaction was so negative. The relationship between Tarja and the band had been bad for some time, so at the end of 2004 she decided to tell the band that she would leave. The idea was to record one last album and go on a farewell tour. She wanted to announce her decision to the public and prepare fans for the vocalist change, however, Tuomas convinced her not to do so at the time. It turns out that, after that meeting, the band planned a public firing on the sly. They delivered the letter you mentioned to Tarja at the end of the "End of an era" show and posted it on the band's website the next day. It was a scandal. In response, Tarja wrote a letter and held a press conference to respond better to the group's accusations ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4Wnd5ykfL9repo ). Her husband also spoke. He answered more than 150 questions from fans around the world and posted the answers on the internet ( www.tuomasholopainen.fora.pl/wywiady-artykuly,29/odpowiedzi-marcelo-na-pytania-fanow-czerwiec-2006,455.html ). Given the reports that were brought and other available records, including videos and documentaries, a large part of the fan base revolted against the band. Faced with criticism from different sides, Tuomas fell into a depression and wrote "The poet and the pendulum" as a way of dealing with the situation. Some say that Tuomas suffered from unrequited love for Tarja. This feeling would have been the fuel for the composition of some songs. The question of Tuomas' love for Tarja is actually an old theory of fans. This theory was built even before Tarja's dismissal, and is based on old interviews (see this one, for example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naWTmZR3nqyVftE) and on the lyrics that Tuomas used to write. The idea of the existence of unrequited love was strengthened when Marcelo himself (Tarja's husband) spoke about the subject in the responses he gave to fans. See these answers: "36) Many people say that everything this happened because he Tuomas felt something for the Tarja and this feeling was not corresponded. It was the impression that passed. This can be answered? Or not? Heluza Mercaus Viegas Brazil I promised that everything was going to be answered. To cut a long story short, in October 2004 I needed to ask Tuomas to come to talk to Tarja and me in our hotel room in the middle of the tour. Even though he knows Tarja many years before me, he never could achieve his goal. In this meeting I clearly told him that his chances to be with Tarja were gone. I needed to tell him that there was no reason to keep on trying any longer, since I married her. As usual he didn't speak much, but he said to me that nobody was going to be able to stop his love for Tarja. After this unhappy meeting, everything changed. The guy that until then said in interviews that, without Tarja, that would be the end of Nightwish, changed his message into: Nightwish is my band, my music, my lyrics, the scenery of my soul. Is up to you to check all interviews from the band before and after end of 2004 until today. Tarja never changed her thoughts about her position in the band. She has never mentioned that Nightwish was her band or that she was more important than the other band members. Nightwish lyrics are Tuomas' life diary, as it has been said. With this new information that I am sharing with you, please check once again some of them. We all can find amazing songs with beautiful lyrics full of poetry. Their meaning won't remain that uncertain any longer. 37) Was Tarja in any romance/love way with Tuomas (he seems jelouice to me). Mariela Todoroviè Slovenia Tarja never had any romance nor was ever in love with him. I have received many questions accusing Tuomas of being jealous, envious, bitter and of being in love. I have no interest in making any judgement about those things and people's feelings. Other people than Tuomas also told me how much they love Tarja. There are many different levels of love and I have no problems with any of them as long as reasonable limits are not exceeded. Is funny if you carefully check the cover of End of an Era (that Tarja didn't propose, but accepted). You will find what seems to be an angel (Tarja's nickname in the official forum of her web page) and a demon or god. Only these two characters dominate the scene. I couldn't find any other characters in the cover at all. They are standing facing away from each other. Between them there is turmoil and a strong light, whether striking into or coming out of a cracked heart. It is definitely not Tarja's heart. Her heart is very healthy and full of love, because she has always listened to it (instead of me); as Tuomas advised her to do in the open letter. The title of the scene is "Nightwish - End of an Era". You can make your own conclusions. I am merely describing a DVD cover 157) What were, in your opinion, the real motives for Tarja Turunen to be out of Nightwish? ¿Cuáles fueron, en tu opinión, los verdaderos motivos de la salida de Tarja Turunen de Nightwish? Marta Perez Spain I think we will never know the real motives. Motives rest in Tuomas, some close people and band members' hearts. Seems there has been at least very strong motives to kick out Tarja, specially the way they did it. Some of them might be the mentioned cultural differences that band members have in their minds and hearts with me, the non corresponded love from Tuomas to Tarja, Tarja's values that didn't match Tuomas and Tarja's maturity that didn't match Tuomas and the others, not compatible life styles between band members, different concept of friendship and responsibilities that comes with it, different approach to record business, the obvious problem to communicate within the band; just to name a few." The depression itself and the song "The poet and the pendulum" can, in theory, be read as a reflection of this love drama. Regardless of whether this theory about Tuomas is true or not, the fact is that bringing internal issues to the public was the worst choice. A lot of the band's past has been brought up and no one has come out unscathed. Because of the scandal, Tarja lost some fans and contracts for her solo career. On the other hand, the band also lost fans and had little-known events brought to a wider audience. For example, Tarja suffered an attempted sexual abuse in the middle of a concert in Guadalajara in 2000. At the time, the band continued playing as if nothing had happened, even after Tarja left the stage along with the criminal and the security guards. There are videos of the episode here on KZbin ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZPNZZtnbZVqobs ). Later, after Tarja left, the band itself mentioned the event in its official biography ( fromwishestoeternity.tumblr.com/post/111177476493/alfaangel-i-just-put-together-some-facts-about/amp ). The way the band decided to fire Tarja and the facts of the past that were brought to public knowledge infuriated many fans.

@@alleninfinity6730 I don't believe in a group that plans a public letter of resignation on the sly, lying for months to the vocalist. I also don't believe in the band's version because there are other sources that show other elements. Everyone in the band had side projects and that was Tarja's initial idea, as she herself had said in numerous interviews in the past. When Tarja decided to focus on her solo career, she warned the group and said that she would leave the band. There would be the recording of one last album and a farewell tour. Only then would she focus on her solo career. On the thesis that she acted like a "diva", this is just the band's version. This version is at odds with what Tarja has always shown to be, both in interviews and in documentaries that the band recorded. As for travel, Tarja decided not to travel by bus with the group through Europe, however, she traveled with Nightwish by plane. The band used to party on the road when traveling by bus. This binge drinking behavior can be seen in the documentary "End of Innocence". For me, the letter the band wrote says more about the band itself than about Tarja. The group wanted to tarnish her image. A simple dismissal could occur internally. It could even be with the same letter through an email. However, they preferred to secretly plan a way to try to tarnish Tarja's public image. That says a lot about the character of the group. It turns out that there are many sources, which is why the media and a large part of the original fans revolted against Nightwish.

There is no reason for a public dismissal full of accusations, unless the purpose is to tarnish the image of the person fired. It turns out that, after that meeting, the band planned a public firing on the sly. The group wrote a letter of resignation full of attacks to Tarja and her husband. They delivered this letter to Tarja at the end of the "End of an era" show and posted it on the band's website the next day. It was a scandal. In response, Tarja wrote a letter but did not attack the band. She also held a press conference to respond better to the group's accusations. Her husband also spoke. He answered more than 140 questions from fans around the world and posted the answers on the internet. This feeling would have been the fuel for the composition of some songs.The question of Tuomas' love for Tarja is actually an old theory of fans. This theory was built even before Tarja's dismissal, and is based on old interviews (see this one, for example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naWTmZR3nqyVftE) and on the lyrics that Tuomas wrote. The idea of the existence of unrequited love was strengthened when Marcelo himself (Tarja's husband) spoke about the subject in the responses he gave to fans. The depression itself and the song "The poet and the pendulum" can, in theory, be read as a reflection of this love drama. There are videos of the episode here on KZbin. Later, after Tarja left, the band itself mentioned the event in its official biography. The way the band decided to fire Tarja and the facts of the past that were brought to public knowledge infuriated many fans. To get a sense of how big the fan base was in the past, look at the number of views of the first videos with Anette ("Bye, bye, beautiful" and "Amaranth"). These numbers are representative of the fan base situation at the end of Tarja's period and beginning of Anette. The first album with Anette was the band's first album ever released with KZbin ever running. We were all curious to know who the new singer was and what she sounded like. Unfortunately Anette didn't please a large part of the original fan base, which also contributed to the band losing more fans. Anette and Floor helped to attract a different audience and reconfigure the fan base. Some old fans have returned with the entry of Floor. She is nothing new to us. For example, I've known her since her first band, After Forever. @@tarjatuhkanen7094 See these answers from Marcelo: "36) Many people say that everything this happened because he Tuomas felt something for the Tarja and this feeling was not corresponded. Some of them might be the mentioned cultural differences that band members have in their minds and hearts with me, the non corresponded love from Tuomas to Tarja, Tarja's values that didn't match Tuomas and Tarja's maturity that didn't match Tuomas and the others, not compatible life styles between band members, different concept of friendship and responsibilities that comes with it, different approach to record business, the obvious problem to communicate within the band; just to name a few."

@@tarjatuhkanen7094 To rule out Tuomas' unrequited love hypothesis would be to say that Marcelo lied, and we cannot say that. On the other hand, we cannot say that Marcelo spoke the truth either. Therefore, I place this matter in the field of theory.

Great reaction as always, but this is not even close to opera, high notes doesn't equal opera so please stop comparing with opera, you might aswell explain how you normally don't listen to Belgian folkmusic, it would be neither here or there...
