God was just showing off when he created Elvis. He did this song with pure love and passion from the soul ! It gives me chills every time I hear it. Again thank you for the review on this man's music. 🎵🎹

The song was written by Earl Brown with Elvis in mind. Mr. Brown knew of Elvis’s love for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Using Dr. King’s speech "I Have a Dream" as inspiration for this song. Dr. King was assassinated just 9 miles from Elvis’s home in Memphis Tennessee. During rehearsals, Mr. Brown noticed one of the background singers had tears rolling down her cheeks. He approached her and asked her if she was OK. Her response was that she had never seen Elvis sing with so much passion. She said it was like he meant every word. And he did! The burgundy colored scarf around his neck was there to pay tribute to all the lives lost during the Vietnam war.

Elvis was nominated for 14 Emmy's and the 3 he received over the years were for 3 of his gospel songs. Elvis was deeply religious and grew up singing in a Baptist Church choir.

Also helped Jackie when his career was on a down side Elvis put it out there ( going to go see Jackie tonight) soooo of course everyone tried to get into the event!! That helped Jackie a lot!!!

I think so many people know the tabloid Elvis...the 50s rebel...the 60s bad movies and the jumpsuit overweight Elvis...but what these people are missing out on is the ability of this man as a vocalist, an entertainer with the unmatched charisma and the respect he had for the singers, dancers, other artists and the black culture he was surrounded with when he was growing up...he was unbelievably generous with people he didn't know and gave away millions...if only people would spend more time watching and learning more about Elvis before they judged...when Elvis was around remember he never toured outside the USA ( this is a sore point with regards to the management of his career), he wasnt around when we had MTV, there was no KZbin or Instagram so if people wanted to see Elvis in concert in the 70s they went too him such as David Bowie who flew to New York after a show in England to watch Elvis at Madison Square Garden in 1972 and even without all these social platforms he managed to sell over 800 million records and don't forget not all of Elvis' record sales were recorded....nice review.

Hi Boys, I saw him twice in concert in his prime. Impossible to describe in words the charisma and the dynamism of Elvis. The audience worshiping him. He was loose, funny and like a shy, polite boy when he talked to the audience. But singing with a swag nobody can ever equal. 3rd row center $10 (equal to $50 in 2022). He sold out every concert in the last 10 years of his life. Every girl wanted him and all of us men wanted to be like him and to be his friend. BTW the high collars he asked for in the jumpsuits were because he felt the Napoleon style made his neck look better because he felt it was too short. You should check out some KZbin flux on his jumpsuits. The last one I think was sold for $1,500,000 dollars. The Aloha jumpsuit cost $65,000 ($250,000 in 2022 USD) to make in 1973. It weighed 70 pounds. He gave a long cape (same style but longer) like he wore in Hawaii to Muhammad Ali. Bill Belew created all of his jumpsuits after Elvis told him the theme he wanted. Bill lived 2 blocks from me in Hollywood and was a great fellow. Google his story and you will see there is a whole world of Elvis’ jumpsuits. I subscribed and liked your videos. You fellows have great personalities and rapport between you. God Bless you both. Ronald

Hi guys, OMGOSH, Elvis, love him, I remember exactly where I was when I heard of his passing. I think there is a story around this recording, he was told not to perform this song, he sang anyway at the end of the show, but they wouldn’t allow his backing singers on stage because they were ladies of colour. There is more to the story if you want to look it up. Thanks for a brilliant upload, let’s have more of the same 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

The back story of this is at the end of his 1968 Special. When Elvis came back from his Army duty, he wasn't sure if people would still attend his concerts like before so he did this Special and to close it, he went alone on stage to sing this song. Now his agent, Colonel Parker, didn't want him to sing this song but Elvis insisted. He was full of emotion after the assassination of Martin Luther King and of course, Bobby Kennedy and he was so distraught that he sang this song. There are quite a few lines from Martin's 'I Have A Dream' speech as well. When he finished and the curtains closed, he fell to the ground and cried for a very long time. He has only sang it a very few times since then (of course, before his death) but that song was to heartbreaking for him. There's a documentary that shows how Elvis had no racism in his heart whatsoever and felt that he had to pay his respect to MLK. This was from the heart and soul. Thanks for the reaction as always. Love from Canada.

This is my favorite Elvis performance a 10. It was perfection and filled with emotion.. Please do the research. Watch the whole 1968 Comeback special, Aloha from Hawaii and That’s the Way it is. Three of the best concerts recorded of his career. Many bio documentaries are worth while checking out. I never got the chance to see Elvis in person which I regret because he was my first pretend boyfriend. I have seen Tom Jones four times. His voice is also iconic and I like him very much but I Love Elvis forever. He just had a little more sparkle.

As soon as I started listening, before you started reading your notes BP2, I thought this sounded very civil rights, Marin Luther King. I saw somewhere that Elvis had gospel roots or loved gospel music. It definitely came out in this song. It’s an 8.8 from me. 🙂👍

Did you know that Streisand wanted Elvis for the movie Star Is Born 1976, but he said no, could have been a great movie. For me he has never been dead, he lives on as one of the greatest. Great video guys.
