Brits 2014 Winners Room: Arctic Monkeys' AWKWARD interview backstage

Arctic Monkeys have continued their Brit Awards success by picking up Best group and Best Album gongs at this year's event. It is the third time they have done so, cementing their place ever deeper in the halls of rock. The Sheffield band's frontman Alex Turner treated the audience to an acceptance speech in his deadpan Yorkshire accent, joking that he would not be delivering a thank-you list that no-one wanted to hear. His sarcastic sense of humour spilled over into the winners' room after the victory. When asked about the night Alex told reporters: "We're really delighted to be here tonight. We've had a great time. It was wonderful to perform before. Having our name on fire was something I was really looking forward to." In a more sobering thought he added that although the awards were great, they shouldn't represent talent. As wonderful as it is to be acknowledged for something you've created I don't necessarily think the talent or how good a group of musicians is is necessarily directly proportional to the size of their trophy cabinet. That's not to be like a downer on it. It's been great to be here," he said. Arctic Monkeys appeared on the scene after their first single, I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor, went to the top of the charts in October 2005. At the time, they had the fas-selling debut album in chart history, shifting more that 360,000 copies in its first week. Report by Andrea Lilly.

True. Watch the interviews over the years and you can see that Alex is someone whose mind is whirring when he gets asked a question. You can see in his eyes that he's trying to bring concepts in his mind out of his mouth. But when he sings he is confident and without hesitation because you;ve rehearsed it a million times. Many introverts - not sure if he is one or not - struggle with the exact same thing.

as incredibly articulate as alex talks, at the same time it seems he doesn't want to come off as pretentious saying "big words" or whatever, but i think that's just the way his mind works and he can't help it. like at 2:12, you can see after the word "conception," he rushes the rest of the sentence out so as not to bore anyone. he speaks so complexly and it's fascinating. i probably seem weird as fuck talking about him like this though, i just regard him extremely highly lmao

I am actually impressed by how deep this dude talks, aside of his stage persona, he actually seems to be a very profund individual and I admire him for that. how is this awkward? because they aren't saying a list of people they need to thank and how amazing it is just like everyone else? these guys are realistic. they have NO ONE to thank but their fans and familys that have helped them get to where they are. no one else matters. it seems like they just want to do what they love without questions being asked and it's refreshing because almost everyone who is famous they love the attention and these guys don't. this is 'awkward' for some people because they aren't used to people not sucking up everyones ass.

My favorite part is Alex's response after the interviewer asks what young bands could do to 'become the next Arctic Monkeys' "Well you just...like..pick up the guitar, quote unquote. Some people dream of that like, their whole life or whatever, but i-i-its not like that for everybody and eh I don't know you...em. What am I trying to say?......."

I think he's trying to say is that , as a teenager you have a simple mind if thinking where a musician can be and what needs to be done in order to become famous . But the only way to actually see if it's for your future , Is to quote on quote"Pick Up the Guitar " . Then from that point on you'll get the idea of how actually difficult it is to get "there "along side the famous and rich . i don't think a lot of people realize that Alex is like this in every interview i believe he said in a previous interview that he has trouble speaking aloud as you can tell. When you see him act like some chauvinistic asshole in my opinion i see him changing his appearance and attitude for their newest album. I don't think he is genuinely that person. AM is a very sexual album and i think he is portraying himself to fit it's content as shall we say a sex god. If looked back on, Alex changes his appearance per album released, my favorite period would have to be humbug.

I didn't find it awkward, actually this gave me kind of an explanation and a bit of an excuse for what Alex did in his best album speech. I think I can finally understand him (a little bit, still a weirdo but in a good way) because the first time I saw his speech I got really confused. I like when they're like that - when Alex seems a bit nervous and makes too large pauses in sentences. Despite sometimes he can be a bit of a cunt in my opinion he's a nice, polite man, just sometimes a bit sarcastic. And I like it, he's weird and outstanding. I think there's a wise, sensitive guy hidden behind this mask of badassness with very interesting state of mind and that's what attracts me to him so strongly. I wanna see this side of him more often.

Am i the only one who finds Alex's interviews hilarious and feel like he's just taking the piss. To be honest they are all down to earth which you can see by looking the their 'View from the...' series on their official YT channel although it is a bit old. Also you never hear stories of him being an arsehole to people and the only reports made about him are when he makes speeches.

I love the fact that if the interviewer tells them their name they actually call them by it. I just think it makes the interview a lot more special and it makes it more down to earth as if they were talking without the cameras on. I saw that in a lot more other interviews, and I love it.
