To people who say that in the US if you don't have money, you'll just die, I present to you the case of my mother, who was on the Harris County's medical program for low-income residents. She's a green card holder. Starting from November 2022, she has had multiple falls, leading to bone fractures and episodes of UTI. She's diabetic and also diagnosed with early-stage Parkinson's disease. She had visited her neurologist, endocrinologist, and family doctor multiple times in Houston, going through multiple expensive exams and getting plenty of meds for her conditions during the last couple of years in the US. Her out-of-pocket cost? About $24, total. Last October she went back to China. She told my brother and me that she did not intend to return to the US. She felt lonely here because most of her family members are in China. Both my brother and I have full-time jobs and can't provide the companionship she yearns for. Last month, she told us that she wanted to return to the US. When I asked her what prompted her to change her mind, I had expected her to mention the comfortable living in the US (She lived with my brother in Houston and he makes a very good living). Instead, she said it was the doctors. In her own words, "I enjoyed socialist treatments in a capitalist country, but experience capitalist treatments in a socialist country." She couldn't stop talking about how nice and patient Americans doctors were with her. They chatted with her and took the time to learn about her symptoms. Her medical treatments cost next to nothing. In China, on the other hand, she is constantly pressured by doctors and hospitals to go with the most expensive medication and treatments. She described them as "money-grabbers." My brother is currently in China and he's bringing her back early next month.

Finally! Someone is speaking with knowledge and truth about our health care system! I have worked in it for 37 years and I know that the "information" out there about it is highly inaccurate. It's really just astonishing to hear the things I hear about it regularly, it's just wrong! Other Brits that I follow absolutely love our private system, especially when compared to their national system.

I’m so grateful that people from the UK have moved here and can give a knowledgeable clear view of what it is the live in America. I have to say people from the UK have such a bias and inaccurate way of looking at our country. As I’ve always said you can’t fully understand it here unless you live here. Bless you!
@LesGray-i9p5 ай бұрын
You did a great disservice to Australia here. It’s totally unfair to compare living in Australia for 2 weeks compared to 3 years in the US and saying the latter’s better. Then you only went to Sydney and Melbourne. It would have been far better making the title why living in the US is better than the UK. Otherwise it just sounds like whinging poms. There’s no doubt the tax structure is better in a lot of respects in the US but for the rest of the points made…well..let’s go through them. Health insurance. Australia has a Medicare levy of 2% then if you want private cover it’s available for not much more than $2k depending on choices and excesses. Low incomes don’t pay any levy and can see a GP for free. Some GP practices still bulk bill for all( no payment) but others charge $25 to $50 for a short consultation. Then there’s the disgrace of serious medical cases where residents in the US have to file for bankrupt due to inability to pay their expenses. Nearly 1M residents file for bankruptcy every year. Over 100M have medical debt. 6.5 x as much debt as in Australia so don’t get sick in America! Regarding time differences between the UK and Australia. It’s only 8 or 9 hours!! How many times are relatives going to travel to Australia? Every 3 months or every 2 years? The cost. It’s only £1000 or less. Re food, choices are Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Mexican, Greek, Italian, South American and others in Australia. Real spoilt for choice so I’m not sure where you ate out. Pubs and KFC? Everyone raves about how expensive Australia is but forget about the exchange rate. $A2 to the £. $A1.50 to the $US. The minimum wage is $24 (($US 16) an hour. How much in the US? 7.25 an hour. Peasant’s wage. Too bad if you make pizzas or wash dishes. Not too many tips doing that.. There are plenty of good value meal options from pubs and cafes in Australia. Lunches at Asian ‘restaurants’ can be as low as $10 for lunch. £5! I don’t call that expensive. Subway wrap is $10. Professional salaries are very good in all capital cities but best in Sydney and Melbourne. Yes tax rates are higher but with the right structure they can be reduced significantly. Company tax is 30% but with expense deductibility can be a lot less. CGT maximum is 23% if assets held for 22 months. Super is paid by employers. Over 10% of salary now. Super pensions from lump sums are Tax free til $1.7M then only 15% from age 60. So many other points. Do yourself a favour. Spend 3 months in Australia. Travel around the whole country. The capital cities and familiarise yourselves with different aspects. The US is the same size roughly as Australia with similar climatic variances. Then there’s the gun violence in the US. Security guards or Police aren’t required at schools. Then on top of all of this is the quality of life in Australia and climate for most of the year in many cities such as Sydney and Brisbane. Unfortunately you both sound like whinging poms. Next time you visit Australia make it for at least 3 or 4 weeks and travel to different cities and locations. Otherwise you just make many Australians angry. Might get the algos going with comments not with subscribers. You should have kept the title to the US vs UK.

@@LesGray-i9p They CLEARLY stated multiple times throughout the video that they had only been in Australia for two weeks! Don't know how you could have missed that. If you know anything about their videos, it's that they are thoughtful, well-spoken, and make an effort to be fair. If you take exception, perhaps you should make your own video about the virtues of life in Australia, I'm sure many people would find it interesting.

@@colleenmonfross4283 the mistake they made was comparing a country they’d hardly be in with countries that they’ve spent decades or years in. It’s misleading to anyone watching to comment on a country unless they’ve been in it for more than just a few weeks. Preferably 3 months and spent it in at least widespread locations. This video should have been the US vs The UK. I see so many that have just visited Queensland and think all of Australia is like that. It’s like an Australian going to NY and comparing that with all of their country. There’s so many misleading clips online that clearly misrepresent the truth. Otherwise it’s not a fair comparison.

As an NHS janitor, I can tell you that the UK National Health Service is not great. While you can get health care for “free”, the problem is that the current infrastructure is not able to keep up with the demands of the current populace. The NHS also relies solely on the taxpayer, so its own health is tied in to the UK’s GDP directly, and as of 18/12/24 (12/18/24), it’s not doing good.

I love the way you guys are analytical regarding taxes and health care including receipts. I have lived in the US all my life and before Obama health care was bad in this country. We had something called "pre existing confitions" Health Insurance could deny you due to having epilepsy, diabetes etc and there was no place you could get coverage. The best program that people here rarely take advantage of is Health Care Savings Accounts. These are tax deductible accounts that you can use for any health care services. It also gives you peace of mind when you have a large deductible. I've been to the UK and not Australia. Both appear to be great. We're lucky to have so many great choices in places to live.

everything a country is, in terms of how good or bad that are happening to the lives of the population in general, is base on how much influence/control/directly deal with the country's population over their politicians and their government admin/management..... more or less, it's about how much an individual have control over their life, magnified by the populations number, and that's what makes a country great to live in....... realistically there are certain degrees and level to law/order/government rights, freedom/independence/free will, capitalism/equal opportunity/wealth access, compliant/compulsory/control over population, etch..... it's finding the best balance the population wants under best solutions-practical-achievable.... for example, if UK was run and operated like what's best of US and australia (as much as includes elimination of majorly of the population's unhappiness and dissatisfaction) then there's hardly anyone leaving UK but going for extended holidays, and never leaving UK going back and forth...... but then again, UK, US, aus have lost control of our own governments and politicians, because it's the other way around when it comes to having control and the alienation of the citizens of each country..... and in aus we're still have some more hold over our politicians and government than UK and US (ie: bureaucracy and government rights are far more severe in UK and US countries, but aus is not so far behind (as much as our politicians wants the total control over population) as aus as you have seen thinks low of politicians and still pushing for their public service employee (it's debatable when it comes in the reality, specially the power of government applied)......

Some things that I do agree with you guys being a brit and living in the USA as well. But let's say that not everything perfect i know you guys talk about pros but there are cons regarding USA compared to the other countries such as Uk and Aus. Such as Atwill contract that Usa provide you when you work for an employer, you can be fired anytime or for anything and there is no process. so your constantly walking on eggshells hoping you have a job tomorrow and even your fellow coworkers are sussing you out seeing if you got what it takes and if they dont see something they like or you failed their test your separated from the company .As well it matters more with your race and what your gender is. Uk and other countries as a complete different work culture to that and your not signing an at will contract. i guess you could say you feel more relaxed with your employment working in an Uk or Aus company. You guys perhaps work for yourselves which is the best thing in USA but not everything is gold.

Nope.......don't like American gun culture, health care, homelessness, food is full sugar and toxins, food portions are massive which breads overweight people, Winters are freezing hell holes whereby you have to shovel snow all the time and in terms of big salaries - it's very well known that only the top end earns big but low and middle income jobs earn very little in America. Furthermore, what about paid sick leave, 4 weeks annual leave, maternity leave, public holidays etc so working conditions in America is shocking. And as for tipping in shops and restaurants- that's toxic
@wtfdidijustwatch10176 ай бұрын
Gun culture is fine. America has better funded hospitals than Australia, as well medical tech and medical knowledge. Australian food is no better, Australia has plenty overweight people and Australians are often alcoholics. Furthermore, America isn’t a “freezing hellhole” as unlike Canada and Australia, America is varied in weather. Florida is tropical, and the middle part of America is quite temperate. Even in regards to snow though, it beats sweating all day in the scorching heat of Australia and being around massive bugs all day. Love to see ignorant Australians so patriotic of a country that tries to mimic American culture. I’d rather be in North America than Australia since North America has more freshwater than AUS ever will. AUS is also losing fresh water. :)

As the host said, “There is this real thing to make the US into something it isn’t. People just don’t want to accept that it has good stuff.” I’m not considered rich by most Americans, but I do have good health insurance (my employer pays 90% of the premiums, and it covers 100% of hospital visits, lab work), I get 32 days paid vacation, 11-12 holidays, 15 sick days (unlimited accrual), a 2900 sq ft house in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of trees and hiking trails. I work in a city with one of the highest homicide rates, but I have never been shot, shot at. I don’t know anybody who has been shot or shot at. There are definitely some parts of the city I wouldn’t walk through, but I feel safe where I live and almost everywhere else. Sometimes the heat and humidity are oppressive in the summer, but I don’t have to shovel snow very often. I like the change of seasons, the fall colors, the blossoms in the spring. I have worked for tips in my younger days. When we were super busy at work, it was nice to come home with a pocket full of cash. I don’t mind tipping people who are working hard. I guess I’m used to it. I’m sure Australia is very nice, too, but you have a wildly distorted view of what life is like for ordinary Americans.
