This... Memphis, Kansas City and don't forget the pulled pork from North Carolina. They have two different style sauces. South Carolina's sauce is more mustard based. I think Alabama has smoked chicken with a mayonnaise based sauce.

IIRC a Hutchins in Frisco came first of the two, way back when. It was about a block South of the current Frisco location. Randy White bought it and built the new location. Meanwhile Hutchins set-up shop in McKinney, and later bought Randy White's Frisco location, and reopened as Hutchins Frisco. The one in the video looks like Frisco.

@@gregvaughntx Yes, that was back in the 1990s. That was an intersection of two lane roads -- Preston and Main. There was very little else there. It was Hutchin's BBQ and Catfish, which was also good. Randy lived nearby. I used to see him around all the time. He bought it, built a new restaurant a block North, and Hutchin's opened in McKinney. Later, Hutchin's bought it back, and made it better.

Just saw these two for the first time and will most likely be the last. Did they just seriously spend their time starting off with desert then sides before getting to the meat, which is the star of the show? Nice to know they main dish was sitting there getting cold while the sides were being consumed. Not to mention that in all my time in Texas, no one has ever referred to Hutchins as one of the best bbq in Texas.

I always insisted on dessert before my meal and I learned several years ago that its normal in Italy to have dessert first. I'm one fourth Italian and only 2nd generation Italian American. I didn't spend time with my Italian relatives so I had no idea I was honoring my roots by having dessert first. I live in the Pacific Northwest, you should definitely check it out some day!

When you need a fix at home, Hickory’s Smokehouse is pretty solid. The West Kirby location was where I went when I was feeling homesick. It did the trick. 😋 Management would send core team for barbecue tours in the states.

You need to do a country wide BBQ tour. US BBQ is regional with each region putting their own twist on it. St. Louis and Kansas City Missiouri right in the center of the country are also known for our BBQ. Both cities are on opposite sides of the state though looking like they're trying to escape so it would make for a good road trip to go between the two.

I've done a Texas BBQ Tour to over 35 of the Top ranked places across the state, and you're right in your comment that you have to rank individual items. SO MUCH good BBQ in Texas, and one may have the best sausage, while another has the best beef ribs, or Brisket, or desserts, etc... When friends travel here I have to give them 2-3 suggestions in their area because it's all so good when you're in that Top Tier 👌🏼

Texas BBQ heartland is in Luling. Many BBQ places in one small town. Blacks is best to me. Simply good home cooked sides. Stick to the normal sides of Potato Salad, Pinto Beans and Green Beans. Nothing over the top fancy. The smoke they put into their choice meats is just so good. It all about the wood used. And when I leave to hit the road home I always get a whole BBQ chicken to go.

Waiting in a long line usually means one of two things; 1) very slow service, OR 2) REALLY good food! I actually avoid places where there are few to no customers, for obvious reasons. I've made mistakes before, where we wanted to go to "this" place, but it had a very long line, only to end up at another place that didn't have a line. Once we ate there, we knew WHY they had no line! Now I'd rather wait for a while, and get good food, than bend to the alternative, and be upset all day!
