I must a agree... Ive lived in and have eaten BBQ from various spots in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Nothing comes close to the BBQ I had at Pinkerton's BBQ in Houston, TX. I heard Terry Blacks is amazing several times already. I'll definitely be paying them a visit very soon.

This is making me proud that my friend from Texas gave me mad props on my dry brined Tri-tip BBQ I brought to a friends birthday. Cooking for people already has me nervous but I try my absolute best and having the nod of a Texan native meant a lot to me. Half the battle is having the patience to do prep work for at least 24 hours before ever cooking the meat.

It is so weird you call her 'baby girl" must be a Southern thing? We don't talk like that in California. I went to Dallas/Fort Worth for business and I am a white guy blue eyes and all these black ladies were all over me, calling me honey and sweetie and and a bunch more I can't post on youtube. They wanted to know if I was single to date them or their daughters, It was crazy, this would never happen in California they would be fired for harassment. I thought is was different and fun so no need for a firing, but I had never experienced anything like that before in my life. I was there alone for St. Patrick's day and spent the night at Lower Greenville and it was crazy, I met so many people. I went to sushi alone in Dallas one night and met two beautiful girls from South America. Also what is amazing to me is Dallas if F-ing flat, there are no mountains just a ton of dirty lakes everywhere, they are pretty much just drainage catch ponds and so have all the waste in them from surrounding areas. You might like them but I would never swim in one. We had a tornado when I was there and it tore glass off the buildings next to me.
@SaltyArmySarg
@SaltyArmySarg 19 күн бұрын
@digitaldirt7773 it's only weird, because ur from Califronia, and no, the rest of America is NOTHING like California. I was simply calling her baby girl, because she is the female child in this family video. I'm a grandmother, so, I of5en call the little girls in the family, baby girl, jus a habit maybe, but, they are the baby girls of the family, and that is what I call em. I live in West Texas, and there's a running joke that if u stand on a quarter u can see to Dallas..lol..because it is soooo flat, nothing here..I didn't move here for the scenery tho, I made Texas my home, #1 because I love the people here, #2, I love the state of Texas.

What's amazing is that TX BBQ is totally different from other southern states. Kentucky or Tennessee enjoy the sweeter flavors. TX goes big and bold. The amazing thing about the US over any other country is that we have so many different cultures that have made their homes here and the cuisine follows. Seafood in the northeast, cajun (french/african) in Louisiana, BBQ is the south, West coast asian fusions and chinese/japanese/korean. You can find everything here.

I don't want to get political or anything, but isn't it a shame we can accept all the wonderful food cultures from across the country without blinking an eye, but can't accept actual cultures still in 2023? Kind of sucks. But yeah, BBQ is incredible no matter where you get it, literally.

@@you_can_call_me_T I went to this joint literally on the highway outside of Austin back in the 90s - I don't remember the name of it and I don't think they are around anymore sadly, but it was without a doubt the best BBQ I've ever had, and I've been to Terry Black's and a bunch of the best overall places in Texas. I WISH I could go back in time to this place, the food was just mind bogglingly good. And shockingly, one of the best BBQ joints I've been to outside of Texas or a more southern state, was in NY in Brooklyn. A place called Homestead BBQ (I think it's called Homestead, I'll have to google now lol) was just amazing. They have a BBQ pastrami that is amazing.

Bred born and raised in Texas. I've been all over the States; every state has its culture but I've learned that Texas is blessed. I never get tired of watching ppl from other countries visiting and seeing their reaction. Your wife said it straight up, "Are we getting fleeced on our BBQ?" Your daughter was having a food nirvana moment. Yall didnt even try the meats with any BBQ sauces. Ive taken the BBQ houses for granite all my life, along with the tex'mex or mexican restaurants, and southern comfort foods. Both sides of my family had good cooks growing up as a child. America is blessed as well as Texas. Good to see your family enjoying Texas BBQ.

Atlantas silent reaction to everything was the best. It was like she just closed her eyes and was savoring heaven. Then she was like "Ya'll keep talking. I'm just going to keep enjoying the food while you talk." Sam started eating that rib and I didn't think he was going to stop and share any of it with Denzel. BBQ is very different depending where in the states you are. All forms are delicious, just different. I do love the bold tanginess of the Texas BBQ though.

One of my favorite things about America is how every region has it's own foods they do better than anywhere else. If you're ever on the east coast, like right on the water, you need to try the local seafood, best I've ever had. Everything from the the maple syrup in Vermont, to the peaches of Georgia, to the wines and oranges of California, food is culture, and Americans love sharing good food with everyone, it's one of my favorite means of cultural exchange.

Sam being on the brink of tears over how good it was and Atlanta's savoring in silence were the highlights! I don't even really eat much meat other than turkey (every day for breakfast and only the good stuff: Boar's Head)... and I was drooling over watching this. Sam's near crying reminded me of the time I went to a New York deli in Colorado (ex NY'er that opened it)... my friend had an egg salad sandwich and he had the same sort of reaction. Then he started to cry and I asked what was wrong and he sobbed, "It's almost gone!" 🤣 I told the deli guy how much the sandwich meant to my friend and he packed us each a sandwich to go free of charge for our journey! Thanks for sharing these moments with us, NZ Family!

I have a buddy in Australia who makes his own BBQ, and says that y'all can do this stuff at home. A good smoker can be built, or bought, and there are tons of KZbin videos to help you with that. Making the Q....well, that just takes time and experience. The more you try it, the better you'll get at it. Imagine how much of a local hero you'll be once you figure out how to do this at home. As a Texan who's spent quite a bit of time in NZ. They would unfortunately need the correct wood and meats for this. Their standard meat is a bit different even down to Sausage which is nothing like American sausage. So if they can find those two things, the proper meat and wood, you're golden. Even if you have to seek it out, I think a good BBQ on the weekend for the family is well worth the effort.

I will say it's on par with Texas, but it has a different heritage and philosophy. That makes direct comparisons impossible, and Carolina BBQ's yet another thing. There can't be a "best" when the players all take a different approach to a similar, but not identical outcome. That's the three BBQ centers, but I'll give a shoutout to Memphis for its ribs, and all the little BBQ joints in other towns and following other traditions. It takes a national-level chain to fuck up Q, and in a good sit-down restaurant you might get some good stuff, but a joint will give you as good or better, for a much lower price. Yeah, I dove right into the KC Q culture, then wallowed in it. I want to send some of my homemade rub to Atlanta, but managing packaging, shipping, and who knows what applicable laws, not sure I can swing it on a disability income. All I can say about that is once I got it dialed in, folks started refusing to use sauce on my ribs. This ain't me trolling, this is from an important part of my life. Luckily one of the children started their own Goss BBQ in the city that recreates the original and it is incredible. Diamond A Goss Bar-B-Q.

Growing up in the South Banana Pudding is a HUGE thing. Every southern, soul food and BBQ restaurant had it. Every pot luck, cookout, church lunch, family get together, etc had it. It's my all time favorite dessert

I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone, but at least for me the thing that makes all the difference is if it's banana flavored pudding, or vanilla pudding with bananas IN it. I've never liked banana flavored pudding at all.

@@Pit_Wizard Vanilla pudding with bananas in it is definitely the way to do. Also whether it's from powdered mix pudding or from scratch is a big deal. From scratch is a huge deal since you can use real vanilla and not the artificial stuff the mixes contain. The same is also true of the wafers because most people use store brand like Nilla but they contain vanilla "flavoring" so making your own with extract and vanilla sugar is far superior. Then there's the entire hot vs. cold. Traditionally true Southern vanilla pudding is served warm with a meringue and "Northern style" banana pudding was served cool with Whipped Cream (which, if homemade, is incredible), but over the years pretty much the cool style has what has become dominant in the South and I definitely think that's superior. Oh and don't even get me started on the bananas but we're going there because I love talking about this topic lol. When most banana pudding recipes were invented the most common banana found in the world and the U.S. was the Gros Michel which has a very distinct flavor profile and as it was the one used banana pudding recipes were built around this banana and its flavor profile so how much of what, etc. was considered for this banana. But then Panama Disease destroyed the Gros Michel and while it's not extinct it did make it extinct as far as commercialization goes because they couldn't grow them anymore in mass without them becoming diseased. As a result Gros Michel's were replaced by the modern Cavendish banana which is what we still eat today. If you go to the grocery store the bananas you see, besides specialty varieties like Brown and Monkey, will be Cavendish. The thing is Cavendish are very difficult than Gros Michel so when used in banana recipes, whether Banana Cream Pie or Pudding, the flavor and even the texture isn't going to be the same. Gros Michel bananas were far more flavorful and they also had a tougher texture, both inside and out. Cavendish are by comparison blander and not as tough, but tough enough for mass commercialized transport. Somewhat contradictory, though, they actually last longer before rotting than a Gros Michel despite being less tough. Most early banana pudding recipes call for "overly ripe" or "brown ripe" bananas, which meant Gros Michel's at the end of their self life. This meant softer bananas at their most flavorful, but unlikely Cavendish, still without a browned inside and with a solid texture. You just can't get that from Cavendish so if you go by those old recipes and use Cavendish you're going to end up with a mushy brown mess. The recipes just weren't built or intended for them. As an interesting aside, modern banana "flavoring", both used in candy and medicine, was based around the Gros Michel. That is why it doesn't taste anything like the bananas we have today (of course, it's still highly artificial so it's not a good indication of the Gros Michel flavor either). I've made banana pudding usually an old recipe and Gros Michel bananas I had to specialty order and it was FAR SUPERIOR. It looks like we may go through this again too because there's now a new strain of Panama Disease that will likely eventually destroy Cavendish commercially too at some point in the future

If you haven’t watched their video yet, Josh & Ollie (Jolly) visited Terry Black’s recently & also had an emotional, near religious experience. Like Sam, almost crying tears of joy. And like you describe, rarely when you build something up so much can the real experience match the expectations. So when it does, it makes you extra thankful. Not just for the food itself, but for who you get to share/experience it with, that you get to be there at all, etc.

Either its just bland dog food or drowned in sauce to mask it being blank dog food where he's from probably. Texas will never not dunk on anywhere else in the world when it comes to BBQ.
