Yes, and she has not so far balked at trying anything because she knows exactly what it is because she helped. Often, when kids say they don't like/want something, it isn't defiance or fussiness, it is because they have no idea what it is and nature is telling them at that stage in thier life to question everything, including what thier dinner actually is. Back in humans hunter-gatherer past, not knowing what you are earing could be fatal.

For fun FYI: Apple crisp vs apple crumble. Here in the USA, a fruit crisp topping would be the same as a crumble topping with the addition of oats in the ingredients. A fruit crumble’s streusel topping is made the same way only with flour and no oats. Identical in every way with the exception of the oatmeal. Good job H Family, looks delicious.

Apple crisp is a classic/standard in America. It can be cut and served in squares. Can also use the recipe with other fruit besides apples. Rhubarb is a big one here up north (Minnesota) - the first fresh "fruit" of spring for us. But you can do pie cherries, raspberries, blueberries, peach, etc. and just as good if not even better.

Elana has already started her resume even before she starts school. If you have molasses and white sugar, you can make your own brown sugar. 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar, 1 Tablespoon unsulphured molasses increase to 2 Tablespoons of molasses if you would like to make dark brown sugar. Favorite dessert Cherry pie. I am from Michigan after all.

A Portuguese guy did double eggs and now I just came across a sweetest couple two deviled eggs. Sooooo good. Less mess and perfect.

Growing up, our apple crisp topping was heavy on the brown sugar and butter, just a bit of flour, so it was more caramel like. The topping could be set aside and eaten like a soft toffee. As we grew older, more flour and oats were added to presumably make it a bit 'healthier.' Warm apple crisp was good to start the day on cold winter mornings. Yum!

I made two apple crisps last month, one for me and my Dad, and the other for our neighbors. I had promised one to the neighbors back at the end of August and he helped me pick some apples off our tree, but that very same day I misjudged a step, fell, and broke my shoulder so the apple crisp had to be put on hold for a few weeks. There is a different apple crisp topping that we prefer that doesn't use oatmeal, just flour, butter, and sugar. Almost like having sugar cookie dough on top. I did mine in two 10 inch deep dish glass pie pans using Granny Smith apples.

I would usually cook the apples first on the stove, top with the crumble, then bake, but this still looked yummy. Kind of like you said you would put it on top. I would just say to research how to measure flour and brown sugar (much different techniques, brown sugar is pressed in and flour is leveled and loose.) It doesn’t matter so much here but with other baked goods it can. Love to watch. I just realized though since you said you also would put it on top I have no idea I’d I’ve been making crisp or crumble this whole time lol.
