Only learned of Elite after finding out about Elite: Dangerous, which I'm now playing. Glad for this piece, I had no idea Elite was such a milestone in gaming history.

I love how at the start, the presenter is "playing" a Japanese game and talking about the things that British game devs have made.

"David & Ian started programming in a new computer language called assembly" -- great vid, but come on, how hard would it have been to fact check BS like this. Assembly was in no way a "new language" at that time, it was what everyone had to program in BEFORE languages like BASIC came along, and the only viable way to program the chip directly. The BBC doesn't half talk some bollcks sometimes!

What is this Bollocks!? Japan # 1 = Nintendo = ¥1.3 Trillion France # 2 = Vivendi = €49 Billion USA # 3 = Take-Two Interactive = $1.7 Billion How is Britain even relevant today? As an American I would like to know.

So all worth is judged by how much money something makes? If you live your life by that principle I think you're going to lead a very sad existence. Have you heard of that British guy called Tim Berners-Lee? You know, the inventor of that small thing called the World Wide Web. Berners-Lee made his idea freely available, so he made no attempt to patent it or make royalties off his idea. To me that makes it more worthy and more relevant than all of the sales of Nintendo, Vivendi and Take-Two combined. Just a thought.

Matthew Pringle Slow down there. Did I say the best video games are the ones that make the most money? NO! The guy in the video at 0:14 said and I quote, "Britain became the biggest producers of video games in the world." So what I'm asking is how is that statement true? As for Rockstar North & the GTA series it didn't get popular until it was acquired by Take-Two Interactive. And Eve Online is not from England it's Icelandic. And as for Tim Berners-Lee which is off-topic but I'll address it anyway; he did his research at MIT which is in America. See the problem I think is your UK media brainwashes you guys. Tells you you're more significant than you really are. That's why you haven't been made aware that WWW isn't the internet. ARPNET is the internet - which came 24-years prior. I'm not suggested America invented everything. There are many technogies that came from Japan, Korea & Finland. But for now I'm trying to figure out what this guy is talking about at the beginning of this video.

Trillasecond Well the fact that you stated "How is Britain even relevant today?" after listing the financial takings from 3 major gaming companies seemed to me to suggest you were placing an emphasis on most money made. Also, I know the difference between the internet and the world wide web. My point was you seem to place such emphasis on money earned (hence your top 3 list) over all other factors. Elite was an incredibly influential video game and this is what the programme here is about. The presenter *did not* say "Britain became the biggest producers of video games in the world" he said "Britain became *one of* the biggest producers of video games in the world". Big difference.
