Great interview/review! I just demo'd a spinetek NB 2 for a week. Compared to the original NB square tail which was my fav version, this new models feels faster and more refined/foiled, but loses a tad of its paddle power despite having similar liters. Anyways, it's currently my favorite board for 1-5' California surf. I use the large template ci fins & it flies!!!

JorgeAndresCoppiano. NB2 or Sampler. The NB2 has a great range 1-6’ surf.... a bit more traction in the pocket compared to the Sampler. Both boards are sick though.

Also... what is your preference: the EPS stringered construction or the Spinetek construction for the NB2? And do you think a more raked fin like the AM2 or a more upright fin like the John John Teckflex with the NB2? Much appreciated
@surfnshowreviews77776 жыл бұрын
Kapukataumahaka Owheo I like the Spine-Tek the best. It seems to load and rebound with more pop compared to the Stringered EPS. I think the JJF TF would be sick on this NB2 in point breaks and beach breaks. The JJF will pivot faster because it’s a bit more upright.

Loving your reviews man!!! Given you have had a bit of experience with the NB2 could you pass on your insight with regards to sizing. I have noticed with some of your recent boards, like the Gremlin, you are going an inch longer than the stock dims but reducing the volume down to the size below. You mentioned this is to create a little more rail line. I am 6 foot tall and 203llb and keen to order a custom NB2 at 32.3L. Either a 5'9 that is a little wider at 19 3/4 X 2 9/16 or a 5'10 that is a little narrower at 19 1/2 X 2 9/16. In your experience do you think a NB2 would be better ridden (at the same volume) an inch shorter and slightly wider or an inche longer and slightly narrower? Thanks man!
@surfnshowreviews77776 жыл бұрын
Kapukataumahaka Owheo I think your splitting hairs here. When I ordered these NB2 I didn’t know what the Stock DIMS were going to be... this board would be sick at 19 wide too. I think a shorter board fits better in small waves and every inch counts. If your buying this NB2 for 1-4’ then go shorter... if your buying as a daily Driver 1-6’ then go 1’ longer.
@TRIKushbeachside6 жыл бұрын
Sick review 👍🏽 really funny about the fin boxes effecting the flex and the amount of carbon in some cases making the tail a little stiff. I have a couple boards that are almost identical but have different carbon tail hits and it is noticeable different. It's nice to have a tail that likes to spring sometimes instead of just sit flat and not want to give. I feel that tails with a little more flex are a little more forgiving but almost make the board feel like it has more tail rocker at times. Trippy lol I wish I was sponsored so I could ride and test boards everyday, jealous amigo. 1 question, compared to the Sampler which I actually felt was more of a middle ground board versus a true groveler would you say the NB2 truly excels when the waves are smaller? Say thigh to shoulder high. I surf in central FL and am really trying to find a board that works well in smaller surf but still has that high performance flick to it. The Sampler was a fun board but seemed to like surf more in the stomach - 1ftOH type of surf. Great review
@surfnshowreviews77776 жыл бұрын
TRIKushbeachside The NB2 excelled in everything I tested it in. I only got 1 small day surfing it for this review and it surfed very well. The surface area in the tail carries good speed and it surfed very well in the pocket in waves ranging from 1-6’+.. The Sampler is a sick board and I liked it in 1-3”+ surf. Getting it in the pocket was a little tough in 1-2’ because it’s a bit long at 5’7”. The NB2 & RW are shorter and fit better. The Sampler struggled in 4’+surf for me.... it felt like it was going to slide out at times.
@TRIKushbeachside6 жыл бұрын
Surf n Show Reviews I know what you mean about the Sampler starting to slide when the surf gets in the HH range, it just seemed to like surf with a little more push than I expected it to. Pretty keen on trying out the NB2 in one of the new techs and see how that goes in the typical softer surf we get here. Cheers man

Hey Noel, i´ll start by saying the obvious. You are doing a great work man!!! keep it up. And asking for an opinion. I've been riding longboards for most of my life, the town where i live there is a huge culture on them. But i decided a couple of months ago to make the switch to shorter boards i started with not such a short board a 6´4 fish tail that now i kinda feel that i need to go down in size to keep proggresing or to get to the point that i would like to be. And you know the economy here in Mexico it´s not very good and it´s very hard to get your hands in good brands boards or new boards. I need to make a desicion on what board do i buy now and stick to it as long as i can. Was thinking on the Neck Beard 2 or probably the Ultra Joe. Or can you make a recomendation if its CI brand would be better cause i know some guys that order those. Im 172cm and weight 72kg probably and average intermediate on the shortboard field nothing really fancy. The waves here are around 2-4 for the most, all kind of breaks. Would really aprecciate your opinion or your words man. Thank You!!!
@surfnshowreviews77775 жыл бұрын
Juan Gerardo Villagran López I say go with the Ultra Joe... good paddler and still turns good. For your weight and sizing down from a long board maybe layout liter range should be 32-34 liters at first. Then work your way down to 30 liters.

Do you ever review some of the local shapers' boards? I'm in SD, but I've heard about older shapers like Timmy Patterson and Chris Kaysen, also newer guys like Matt Parker. Around SD, there are a lot of good shapers too. It seems like Sharpeye is the only smaller name shaper you review.
@surfnshowreviews77776 жыл бұрын
Connor Pearson Matt Parker is on my radar... I spoke to the folks at Chemistry but they never shaped the boards. I did a review on a Super Brand board... I did the Spyder Fireball Fish by Dennis Jarvis. I got a couple Xanadu’s coming, a couple Chili’s, another Spyder board.... We are focused on the bigger brands as it helps out surfers world wide. Doing reviews on the local shapers help out the local community but surfers in other countries can’t walk into a surf shop and grab one of the local shapers boards. These reviews take a lot of work for us and we want it to benefit the Surf community, surf shops, board makers on the biggest scale possible.

The NB2 Carrie’s more speed with the wider tail block and it pivots faster too. The PJ Pro is a bit smoother rail to rail as the NB2 can turn a little more abruptly. Both boards are easy to shred and way fun.
