if you're really struggling you should try doing something easier, such as granny squares or bandanas. don't worry, it just takes some practice!

I was struggling in the beginning and it was because of how she started it. So what I did was I started my chain of 40 and then started doing half double crochet for the rest of the project. I came back to watch the end on how she put it together and the next tie piece. It's not exactly like this but it was SUPER easy and still looks really cute. I wear a tube top bra underneath

Hope I don’t sound dumb but I’m a complete beginner and only skimmed through this video but I have two questions 1. Do I have to have the strap or can I have it without? And if it’s possible to have strapless do I just cut the string or what do I do with it? 2. Do I need a needle to do this top?
@Apryldyes2002 Жыл бұрын
You will have a difficult time getting the top to stay up without the tie on it to tie up around your neck, unless you stitch elastic around the top and bottom to make it like a “tube top style” and you don’t necessarily have to have a darning needle to weave in your ends when you’re done, they are very handy and ideal to have but, you can use a smaller hook to weave them in but it can be tricky and the hook tends to snag the project more easily rather than just getting a darning needle and making life a lot easier

@brittanyalicecrochet Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, it's really going to depend on what type of yarn you used as to whether or not the top will spring back to the original size. From my experience, acrylic yarn is best for these stretchier projects. Reading what you said in this comment, it seems like you didn't use an acrylic yarn, but of course I can't be sure. Not all acrylic yarn is made the same. For this project, I would definitely not use something like cotton or bamboo yarn because they will stay stretched out. If you used a different fiber yarn, like cotton for example, it may not ever go back to the original shape. But if you used an acrylic yarn, my suggestion for you is to wash your top and then lay it flat to dry. Make sure you lay it flat in the original shape that you'd like it to dry in. I'm no expert on washing/shrinking crochet garments though, so it's best if you search the internet for the answer. But I have actually made a form fitting crochet dress pretty much with this exact tutorial and it worked. I also have another tutorial for a form fitting dress, but I would not suggest that to a beginner crocheter. Overall, it is a little more difficult to make a form fitting crochet dress, having straps in the back is much easier and there's more room for error. Also, congratulations on completing your first crochet piece! :)

@@brittanyalicecrochet hey so sorry I only just saw your reply! Thank you so much, this is really helpful and yep I used cotton since I thought its the better choice for a summer top but then I will redo it with acrylic yarn and hope it will be more stretchy this time :) thanks a lot for the advise and your great tutorials

How would you wash crochet tops? Just in a washing machine? Thank you, btw
@brittanyalicecrochet Жыл бұрын
I personally would wash by hand, wring out gently and lay flat to dry! There are different ways to wash crochet though. It can also depend on the type of yarn you use. If I were you, I'd look up the type of yarn you're using (like acrylic) and google something like "how to wash an acrylic crochet project." Hope this helps!

Is this stretchy? I have a large chest and I think this would be hard to put on and take off?
@brittanyalicecrochet2 жыл бұрын
This is a very stretchy stitch so the project grows quite a lot when stretched! At around 9:05 you can see where I stretch the rectangle around myself and at 8:42 just how stretchy the stitch is! You want to make sure it stretches around your bust, so it's quite possible that the bottom of your top would potentially be a little loose due to having a large chest. But with the stitch I used, I'm not sure that would actually be a problem. The only thing is that you should make your halter ties using either slip stitches/single crochets for more support. Oh, and you'll want to use acrylic yarn or something similar so the stitches keep their bounce! Hope this helps :)

I’ve tried making this a few times with the foundation slip stitches just like the video, but my top still shrinks every time. anyone know of a common mistake I may be making that could fix this?
@brittanyalicecrochet2 жыл бұрын
You have to find the right tension for this top, if you're making the slip stitches too tight, the top will continue to shrink. Making the foundation slip stitch helps it a bit but it's all about the tension! Make the slip stitches as loose as you can and this will help it keep it's length :)
