19:51 I remember in the begining of s4, after they had just won internationals, Riley seemed like another person! She was more confident in herself and during the auditions she was like "I'm killing this audition", "I know I deserve to be on a-troupe" etc. And I just LOVED that! Especially since we hadn't really seen that side of her. So when she became studio head I really thought she would do a good job. I feel like everything that happened in s4 did not make any sense for your character.

that’s another thing about TNS they completely forget about a characters personality- example riley. she was so independent in earlier seasons and then in s4 her only storyline was a love triangle with James and alfie 😭

Another great reaction Brittany! Loved your reaction to Richelle and Briar’s acting. She’s really great at providing so much sass and spice to her character, but I also love how they’ve softened her up a bit for this season for her character development. The Kenzie and Pete scenes were cute too. Pete was introduced as a new character in Season 7 alongside characters like Cleo and Izzy. I also loved your reaction to seeing Aleesha (Mockingariana) and Michelle’s return. It’s always love to see her appear. :) 19:52 - Regarding Riley’s confidence, I feel like the closest we got to seeing Riley gain more confidence in herself was in Season 3 when she met Ella and learnt some lessons from her. I kinda loved seeing Riley being more relaxed and jumping out of her comfort zone a bit when Ella joined the studio for a brief period. While she may have been a bit of a mischievous influence on Riley, she ultimately taught her to have fun and be more relaxed which I feel like was a great stepping stone for Riley in gaining more confidence and it’s a shame they didn’t explore this more in Season 4 after the experiences that Riley had with Ella, both the good and bad. It would have been really nice to explore that more as soon as she became more of an authoritative leader for the studio as a head in Season 4. I should also mention that there was an off season that occurred which gave us a brief insight on what the dancers were doing before Season 8 began. The name of the cafe for this season is Middle C Bubble Tea. Back in Season 7, it was called The Next Steep as they wanted to profit on TNS’ success at Regionals much to Emily’s annoyance lol.

haha yess the recognition of alishea!! love to see it britt, you both are legends 🫶🏼 i loved richelle’s sass especially in the earlier seasons she was in, however I think many of the fans wanted to see a different side of Richelle for character development as she is now a young adult, so it made sense for the character to be more mature rather than being a little more sassy. however, I agree that it’s nice to still see her sass in scenes, so it’s not like shes completely lost her previous personality traits, so I think the writers wrote her very well in season 8 compared to season 7. the mole storyline is super interesting and can’t wait to see your reaction to see how the storyline unfolds 😆… it’s super exciting! looking forward to next week

Cnt lie i think riley's character was very robbed, i feel like she didnt have anything else going on for herself other than her being in a relationship with james, which in my opinion was very toxic at times sometimes i wonder what would happen if riley and james split up for good

I wonder if Liams character Finn, may be neurodivergent!! Doesn’t pick up on social cues much or at the speed of everyone around him. Poor time management. Getting very excited about repeating tasks he enjoys (special interest) , strong emotional attachment to specific people but not really connecting much with others. Lack of special awareness. I could go ON AND ON!! It’s often passed off as “oh they’re just ditsy and dumb” , but I think it would be an amazing addition to the storyline to have a character that is said to be neurodivergent!!

Hi Brittany, I have been watching all of your reacting to the next step videos since you started making them. I have enjoyed them and most of your takes and insights into the show. I just wanted to mention your opinion of Liam’s character Finn as being “dumb”. I do think that the writers did intend to write his character for comic relief and that they play off what he says for jokes, but the things that you said he did in your video don’t inherently make someone “dumb”. For example being the last to get jokes, being unaware of surroundings or not sensing the mood of a situation are all things that a lot of neurodivergent people - including myself - do and struggle with and yet are clever and intelligent people who just struggle with self awareness and social cues. I’m not saying that the character of Finn is neurodivergent but the traits you were talking about are struggles that people can’t help and could make people feel inadequate or insecure. No hate just sharing my view ☺️

I WISH it was more natural acting, less soap acting, less structure, more indie documentary like the early seasons. I’ll always miss that style. The actors are amazing, but I do constantly pick up on things that feel so… acted… like they’re playing an actor, not playing a character who’s in the moment, genuinely reacting to the situation they’re in. I’m sure it’s a mixture of the actors choice and the writers and directors and stuff, but I do miss the awkward laughs and splutters and giddiness and stumbling over words and uncomfy eye contact or lack of … the more I write this comment, the more I remember how much the style has changed arghhh.
