Pat actually walked away from her career at one time to be a "stay at home mom" to her kids. Husband Neil continued working as a session and studio musician. Then, as Pat tells it, one day their kids were watching MTV (Remember back when they actually played music?) when they said "Hey, Mom. This woman looks just like you." She informed them that "that woman" was indeed their mother. Having known her only as Pat Giraldo, or by her birth name, which I would butcher if I tried to type it here, they laughed and said something like "Oh, Mom. That's Pat Benatar." Realizing that her own kids had no idea who she is, she called her husband and said, "We're going on tour." She is a true rock star and an amazing person.

@@vampfashions I'm not a family member, but I have a very good memory. The words are Pat's from an interview she gave that must have been going on 25 years ago, discussing her 5 year hiatus from performing. I don't remember who was interviewing her, but the revelation of her motivation for returning to the stage made an impact in my mind. True, she may have been elaborating or deflecting, but I would never question her own statements on this.

She has another beautiful song " We Belong " that when she said she shot the video she was having morning sickness and it was a miserable experience. Neil indeed has her back too, as he raised hell at an awards show last year that asked her to sing 3 songs then only filmed one. He didnt appreciate them wasting her effort stating they arent 20 years old. That was hard. God bless yall from Ky.

Oh my Goodness...this is one of my favorite female rock artists from the 80s. She was, still is, & will forever be absolutely amazing!!! She's a legend no doubt about it! This is definitely one artist that I wish I could've been able to have went to one of her concerts. I probably would've had to have gone to the hospital afterwards to put my body back together though lol. I would've especially have to have had my head & neck reattached because they would've been detached from head banging & rocking out! I was very young at this time. My family was strictly country & bluegrass music only & I never got to experience concerts of different genres of music except listening to it on my boom box in my room or my Sony Walkman with my headphones, or if I was with some of my friends that listened to the same music that I did. It wasn't until I was older that I was able to go to concerts on my own & experience the different genres & types of music I liked. My favorite music is still country. I'm a country girl born & raised but that didn't mean I didn't listen to other music. All I can say is she's an icon. She put on an awesome show everytime she graced a stage. Great reaction Britt. This definitely brought back some memories of my early childhood as I kind of tell my age lol.

Interesting note: The video for this song (orginal studio version) was the 2nd video ever played on MTV. Pat does some great harmonies in the studio. Highly recommend it. Back then, they had a second guitarist and a bit heavier sound. By their 3rd album, she replaced the 2nd guitarist and brought in a keyboardist to play more radio friendly songs. I remember seeing her live about 10 yrs ago. I had a couple of 25 yr old friends in tow. We went to this festival to see Imagine Dragons, but it was so packed we couldn't get close, so I said let's walk over to another stage and see Pat Benatar. One of the girls said, "am I going to know any of her songs?" I said yes, you will know them all. LOL

Check out “ hell is for children” it’s a rare song that can speak out about children being beaten, and rock at the same time.

SHE WAS MARRIED TO SOMEONE ELSE WHEN SHE STARTED, THEN DIVORCE & MARRIED THE GUITARIST .. WHATEVER WORKS!

You are so correct, she is an absolute legend! I'd love to see you react to a similar song, "Invincible" from the movie soundtrack "The Legend of Billie Jean". That one is my favorite of hers.

I still have a 12" ep single of that song. Loved the movie, saw it about 5 times in the theater.

She was an Opera trained singer with a 5 octave range. She is also about 4' 11" which led 95.5 KLOS Radio DJ Bob Coburn to coin the title of "Power Elf of the 80's" to describe her incredibly BIG and powerful singing! I saw her at the Fabulous Forum in L.A. and had the worst seat in the arena, I had cement wall behind me and she was at the far end of the stage. She was so small that she looked like an ant in a leotard on stage, but her voice and Neil's guitar shook the place!!!

You need to watch videos for YOU BETTER RUN, LIPSTICK LIES, HELL IS FOR CHILDREN, and SEX AS A WEAPON. I know Pat and Neil have a daughter named Haley. She has toured with her parents as a backup singer. I dont know if they have anymore than that. Keep going and enjoy

That's not necessarily their biggest hit although it was huge they had so many it's really hard to say they had many to choose from if they wanted to end with a hit. From the same show there's another hit called "Shadow's of the Night " And in that song she really lets her voice out you can hear a lot of her Opera which she was trained to do. I think it's best song that really shows her versatile and powerful vocals. Her biggest head may have been" Hit Me With Your Best shot" which was I believe her first hit and came out when MTV was relatively new so it's actually good to see it on video but of course live is great too.

She has been all over the radio since inception, she has so many hits, I'm sure some charted. She has been inducted into the rock n roll HOF and appreciated by millions all over the world again... since inception. STILL gains new fans of ALL generations and has influenced so many influential men and women in music.... And I STILL think she is underappreciated. That is how amazing she is.
