I started playing d and d with my friends about a year ago only because I saw some people playing in the school library and asked to join. We started with only about 6 people and a year later we have 3 tables of 8 and 2 people from our campaign have had to become dms and it turns out it’s not that hard. So go and play d and d it’s so fun and easy!

Hey, I'm rewatching this a year after it first came out because I saw this in my saved videos and realized: this was the video that made me start playing D&D. I remember being so inspired by your descriptions and how you made it sound much less scary. So I read up on the basics, asked if I could join my friend's campaign and they were kind enough to let me in late and help me through, and after the first couple sessions I fell in love with the game. Now, a year later, I'm 2 days away from DMing my first campaign and I have you to thank for that. So, Thank you.

I played a small simple one shot about 2 years ago on a bus ride to a robotics competition and fell in love with it so much that I bought the PHB and had a session of my very own with my friends within a few months. There were 8 of us I think on that bus who played, and passed around a single set of dice while we kept up with our simplified stats on our phones. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. The potential for such a game is really only limited by everyone’s imagination

As someone who has also been playing D&D for a year and a half, it is the 6 hours every week that I actually force myself to get through life to be able to spend with my friends. Through D&D, I've forged some of the best friendships I've ever had with the people in my group. And then when we are at work (a couple of us work together), we reminisce about the journeys we've been on and all the fun we've had along the way. It's crazy. And as far as DM'ing goes, I just started DM'ing recently. Tomorrow is my fourth session I think? I think Matt Mercer hit the nail on the head with why DM'ing is so fun: *"It's a gift to your players. And as such, they gift it back to you. They take something that you've built, something you've made for them and they bring it to life. They change it and twist it and make it into something you didn't expect, and hand it back to you and say what's next?"* I think that really sums up why DM'ing is the best part of D&D

D&D is my FAVORITE THING EVER! I started out with my friend and a couple of her friends and I have a bit of a stutter, especially when improvising or reading aloud, and they were super judgemental about it and that was my first ever experience of the game. It set me off of it for a while, but then my other friend, her brother, and his best friend invited me into their group. I started with a TERRIBLE character who was pretty much a wizard who was bad at everything, but I've gotten to the point where I'm almost always the DM and it's one of the places in the world I feel the most comfortable at! My stutter has even almost disappeared. I play in a couple different groups now and I love teaching people how to play. Every D&D experience I've ever had except my first has been a complete safe haven and I recommend playing. If you have a first experience similar to mine, find another group! Awesome video by the way!

Okay, so I'm part of a mini campaign with about four other people (including the DM). We're all beginners and we started out with someone just bringing a Dnd book and reading it. That person is now the DM and we meet up each fortnight to play. Now we have really developed characters with backstories and personalities. For example I play as a high elf wizard that flirts with every other character the party comes across (Which is kinda hard because she has -1 charisma). She was raised in a monastery and she is a highly intellectual being, which she disguises. Anyway, all I'm saying is, all you need is friends, an imagination and preferably a general idea of what you're doing to play Dnd. Not to mention a set of dice.

As a veteran player (or what I would consider vet) I am DMing for 4 friends, 3 of which are very new and struggle a bit but it is the most rewarding thing to see their face light up the way mine did when you learned something new about the world or something new you could do. I think that is exactly why the community is so welcoming cause us vets will never get that feeling again unless it is with homebrewed content (or with said scenario above). So I say unto the rest of thee, always offer new people into your games and be supportive!

I started playing d&d 2 months ago. I completely agree about everything you said. I would encourage everyone to play! I wanted to play years ago and never did because I thought it would be too hard. I found a great group of people that are so much fun to play with and answer all my questions. For anyone trying to find people to play with, check your local comic book store! Mine has a whole area in the back we’re people get together on Wednesday’s to play. I’ve never made friends so fast and i wish I could fully express how much it has helped me. I went from being so lonely to looking forward to playing every week with great people and laughing about things that happened for days and even weeks after. I can’t believe how much d&d has changed my life in only a few short months.

Roll20/Discord a great way to play if you can't find or create an irl group. We speak over discord and create our character sheets, maps, token (minatures) and do our "rolls" using roll20. It's not a huge learning curve and works well for people who want to learn and your pool of team mates expands beyond who can physically get together regularly. There are ways to find groups for your play level. A few websites dedicated to groups looking or people seeking, Facebook, reddit, roll20 etc also have threads associated with both irl and online groups. I could not find a welcoming group in my home town or even in a larger city an hour away, so it took me less than a week to assemble a noob group and find a DM. We've been playing about 3 months and have had two players move out and others move in. That happens a bit more online as personalities and gameplay is different with strangers who are not face to face, but sticking with it is key until you reach a comfort point with your group. I'd strongly suggest it after exhausting irl possibility of finding a game. It is working well for us. 3 hours every weekend afternoon. A big plus is you can just turn on voice and sit in pjs if you like. And if you want to roll real die, you can always work that out too. Good luck.

Lily McAllister oh my gosh thank you so much! I will definitely try this!

@@ellbell585 good luck! I found my group within 3 days using a website devoted to tabletop groups. We had some issues coordinating and a few personalities didn't work for the play style but it definitely was a LOT easier than I thought. Discord and roll20 are free to use as well. The DM may have a preference and a sub to roll20 for more extensive maps and predesigned campaigns but roll20 offers you a tutorial too. It is really quite a good way to play. Using the website to do your rolls keeps everything visible and you can see what others roll which is helpful when learning too. I hope it works out for you!

I’ve been playing Dnd for a couple years now and I frequently watch Dnd live-streams. Dark and Dicey being my favourite due to the darker theme and everyone mostly knowing what to do. However if there’s anyone new out there who wants to know what it’s like for new players I’d recommend the Oxventurers live-streams by outside Xbox. They’ve never played Dnd before (except the dm) but they’re all very enthusiastic and hilarity ensues. It shows that whilst there is a bit of a learning curve, Dnd is always great fun to play

It's kinda crazy that this came out because I literally just played my very first session of DND last night and it was sooo much fun. Granted we spent an hour and a half on the first battle with four ghouls but hey it was fun! I yeeted our Kenku Bard away from battle and got paralyzed almost immediately but it was a grand old time. Love ya Brizzy, you're awesome!

I’m pretty sure mtg (magic the gathering) is more complex than d&d, having played both and loving more mtg, I agreed with that. What’s do you guys think?
@racinator92265 жыл бұрын
Victor Way i love both games and i respect everyone opinion about it and you have a good point. The only reason why I will always play mtg over d&d is because I’ve started playing it before d&d, and better 😂. I’m willing to try d&d again even if I forgot everything lol.

I started playing D&D this year for the first time with my hubby and 4 other friends through Roll20. I was SO nervous at first since I was the only newbie, but it has turned out really good so far! I am a level 5 half elf fighter who, as my party found out, "has daddy issues" but they don't know what the issues are yet lol Love this video and I agree completely!

If I do play Dungeons and Dragons, I was throw a pickle at an ogre and yell “yeehaw”. 🤠

Sounds like a plan! Coincidentally, the official adventure Princes of the Apocalypse starts in a small town, and one of the villagers there is a... "slow" half-orc named Grund who sells pickles. My character felt sorry for him and bought one (but did not eat it).

I’d also like to recommend the podcast The Unexpectables. The DM of that, Monty, is the most amazing DM I’ve ever seen, and she and the players all have acting experience so everybody sounds amazing.
