I can finally say that I've seen a show featured on Broadway Jeopardy! I was privileged to see "Big River" when Deaf West did it. In fact, my sister's boyfriend helped build the stage for that show (which is why we got tickets lol). It was an amazing production. My brother had been in a community theater production of "Big River" so I was familiar with the musical, but to see how they adapted for the hearing impaired was fascinating!

There was another fun connection to Wicked. Andy Nyman, who played the Governor in the film, sang Penny in My Pocket in this summer’s West End revival of Hello Dolly. It was a brilliant production starring Imelda Staunton. She was somehow brassy and understated.

I laughed so hard I had to pause the video when he said the creatives cut Bring On The Men from a show that still had Dangerous Game! I saw that first tour and that song was one of the sexiest things I’ve ever seen on stage 😂😅
@mollywoolfson2571Ай бұрын
@allisonbergh4429 ya I don't think they should have cut Bring On The Men it's just such a good song ahhhh (In my opinion the Anthony Warlow concept album is a lot better than the Broadway album just because to me the concept album sounds better)
@allisonbergh4429Ай бұрын
@ Absolutely agree - he and Linda Eder sound so amazing together. That’s the cast album I have (and I was in Brisbane for a concert recently and realised Anthony Warlow was performing in an adjacent theatre and just about lost my mind 😆), and none of the other versions I’ve heard have held a candle. I love the classic-Broadway-meets-industrial-synth feel of the whole score - some of the best orchestrations I’ve ever heard mixed with the best technology available at the time. The Requiem Mass at the start of Act Two is legitimately gorgeous, and if some of the lyrics are a little silly, there’s always the miracle of Anthony Warlow’s TWO ENTIRELY DISTINCT VOICES, and the brilliant way he uses them to act through his singing. It’s a masterful performance and imo no other versions exist 😅
@mollywoolfson2571Ай бұрын
@allisonbergh4429 exactly yep I completely agree with everything you said

Thanks for adding the “Differently Abled” category! I will request that you rename it for future rounds- our abilities aren’t very different than other people. We just have to have some things adjusted to meet our access needs- no different than adding an elevator to a building higher than one floor or having a jetway to make it easier for everyone to get onto a plain safely. It’s not exactly about making a level playing field, but it is more about making the plane field work for everybody! I suggest perhaps “actors with disabilities“. In this way you’re honouring the actor and acknowledging the Disability but not forcing that acknowledgement. I know the title was made with All kindness, in mind, it is nevertheless for too many of us like fingernails on a chalkboard! 😎 PS: kudos for pointing out “wheelchair users” and not the dreaded “confined to a wheelchair”(my butt isn’t glued to my chairs seat, nor am I into S/M!! lol Again, 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Fun note for Bride's Lament. When you license it through MTI, it gives you the option to change the Monkey references to Bunny references. We did that for our production and the bunny costumes were hilarious and nightmare inducing at the same time

I always try to guess which songs or shows or people you might use when you announce each category. I was hoping there'd be a Drowsy Chaperone question for the Monkeys category, but also expecting some Monkeys and Playbills from [tos]. I also hoped to hear about Secret Garden or Fun Home in the Women category. You can't fit in everything I guess.

ended up with a final score of 19,000. Wayne Cilento is originally from my hometown Mamaroneck, New York. I loved the categories today especially the cut songs category. There are so many cut songs that there could be a whole game of cut songs, especially if you do a Sondheim cut song category.

You mentioned that Hello Dolly made it pre-broadway debut in Detroit ('63). So did Fiddler On the Roof ('64). Many others as well. You should do a category on other shows that made their pre-beoadway debut here as well. The Fisher Theater has been the venue hosting those tryouts for many years.

1st - I really appreciate the inclusion of the section for disabled folk in theatre! And I appreciate how you took the time to define ambulatory wheelchair user and everything. This sort of content can make a huge difference. (Though I also request it not be called “Differently Abled” going forward.) 2nd-I found it unfortunate that on a episode about inclusivity of disabilities and neurodivergence that Jekyll & Hyde was included, considering how discriminatory of depiction it is of folks under the Multiplicity/Plurality label. (Just so you know, the original book Jekyll & Hyde was what started the dangerous trope that people who are more than one are serial killers.) Conditions like Dissociative Identity Disorder are highly stigmatized, and Jekyll & Hyde narratives really add to the fear and discrimination people in the community face. I personally would find it interesting to have a category sometime of discrimination in theatre where they’re all shows that contain something inappropriate. Ex Like Jekyll & Hyde, or G*psy (which is a slur towards the Romani, Travellers, etc). That way we can still talk about them, but we’re also bringing awareness to the imperfections so people know what things to not perpetuate.

Yay, Suffs was mentioned! I especially loved the Differently Abled category, we need more disabled representation on Broadway!

I got $6,600 this time. Lost some of the higher rounds but of course I knew all of the “Differently Abled” category. As a theatre nerd who also happens to be an ambulatory wheelchair user, I appreciate the clarification for people that wouldn’t know. Walking isn’t at all superior to using a chair or mobility aid, and there is nothing “inspiring” about everyday life for those with disabilities. It’s a reality, not something to be viewed negatively or feel sorry about. Using my wheelchair doesn’t make me less than human, but most of the time people don’t address me the same way they would otherwise. It’s refreshing to see more awareness and inclusion in the theatre community in recent years.

8000 even today! I feel like Waitress kind of got lost in Hamilton's shadow, but it's very good in its own right. Don't we hear like...a tiny bit of We'll Have Tomorrow at the end of Don't Feed The Plants? And wasn't there also a cut song called Crystal, Ronnette, and Chiffon?

wonderful round, kudos! coupla caveats: "Backwoods Barbie" also pre-existed the rest of Parton's score, along with the title number (though it certainly fits like a custom job in its spot). I would also wonder if QUILTERS actually has the distinction afforded WAITRESS, in the Women Writing category. i have been trying to certify if Bareilles is the first woman composer to star in her own score on Broadway...just not sure if GETTIN MY ACT TOGETHER ever played Bway or not. Or if Micki Grant appeared in CAN'T COPE...back to research!
