Me too! This one is interesting because it technically is a village, but it has the shops of a town. But retains the quaint village feel. So fun to visit! Thanks for watching, Ruth! I really appreciate your support. I have been watching the Cotswold Explorer as you suggested, and it has been interesting to see how he has done videos of some of the same places as me recently! Stanway, Stanton, and now Buckland (which I mention in this video... though he didn't have the vicar's wife send him photos... so I feel very special! haha) Hope you are keeping warm, and all is well in your garden and house after the snowfall! Post Boxes where first introduced in 1850s during Victoria’s reign. Initially they had no Royal Cipher but the Post Office decided on marking their post boxes with the cipher of the reigning monarch and so all post office boxes from that point onwards had a Riyal Cipher on them. Those that predated this and had no Royal Cipher are known as Anonymous post boxes. I am not sure how many still exist but there weren’t that many originally as the post office introduced the Royal Cipher pretty early on
@MagentaOtterTravels

@@MagentaOtterTravels lol, the Royal Cipher is the VR, GR, ER etc marking on the post box itself, those without the royal cipher are “Anonymous” Haha, yeah I think I have told you my name before but I wouldn’t blame you for not remembering, it’s not the easiest names to remember unless you’re Welsh, it’s Dafydd ap Hywel, Dafydd is Welsh for David. A F in Welsh is a V in English and a DD in Welsh is a TH in English, so it’s pronounced Davith, but I answer to Dafydd or Dai (pronounced Die) or David or Dave in English

There really is something about that stone that makes me slow down and relax when I've been in Cotswold villages. I'm not sure what it is but just thinking about it after watching this video helped me relax a bit. The architecture in that area now seems quaint but it was top notch and forward thinking at the time these places were being built. They had all that money from wool so that they could hire the best architects and masons of the time. So beautiful and thanks again MOT for such a wonderful video.

Wonderful, wonderful video. As you are filming some close up views of some fabulous private properties, do you ever encounter any frostiness from any of the owners who may object? Incidentally, although you pay to park on the main car park behind the high street, use of the loos is actually free.

Thanks for correcting me! I thought they were pay toilets... but I was hoping I wasn't lying, since I only edited this week and didn't confirm my information. No question that the "loos with views" are nicer than the carpark toilets, though ;-) I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I actually filmed the homes from a pretty good distance. I have a wide angle lens and I zoom into the image in post, so I might look closer than I am. I do HATE nosey tourists that go around small Cotswold villages peering into people's windows!!! As for Broadway, it seemed that quite a lot of the residential buildings on the upper High Street were actually holiday homes. Wait, this is not the Broadway deli we're used to! Where's our pastrami on rye?? Seriously though, that place looks amazing. And our secret wish is that the bloke with the identical jacket secretly had his own channel called Magenta Marmot Journeys.

No corned beef or matzo ball soup or potato latkes in this one! But loads of other yummy vittles in this Broadway Deli! OK, you made me LOL with the magenta jacket comment. I hope that bloke subbed and sees his Broadway debut!!!

Fun Fact: the first post boxes (4 in total) in the British Isles was in Jersey (C.I) in 23rd of November 1852. followed by Guernsey three months later, before the mainland of Britain got them.

Hi Dara. I'm sorry, I know I promised, and I did set a reminder, but I fell asleep. Another MOT member answered your question but a couple of additions. The 'Royal Cypher' was on the first boxes introduced in 1852 but was omitted in 1879 together with "Post Office', and this lasted for 13 years. In your video the second box was probably installed between 1879 and 1892 and the first one looks older so was, maybe, one of the first boxes installed. Also, the second box has a 'Tab' holder at the top of the door but the first doesn't, so, maybe, it has a preservation order. If I think of anything else " I'll be back". 🙂

No worries, Bobby! You live a million time zones away, and your sleep is more important than my premiere! LOL But I am very grateful to have you view it at any time... and love to get the interesting info on the post box history. They are both rather old post boxes there in Broadway! How cool! Cheers! That is a fun fact!! Funny story: up in the residential area, we kept seeing this older fellow in sunglasses. He had longish hair and I kept telling Ian that I was sure he was a retired rockstar from the 70's whose name I just didn't know ;-)

@@lizbignell7813 No. Not yet. I think the Cheltenham Festival is in March, which is a bit too early for us. The Badminton Trials are also a bit too early, at the beginning of May. We have visited the village of Badminton, which is lovely.

I'm really enjoying your video tour of the Cotswolds, and this Broadway programme was no exception: superb filming, with great aerial footage, superb soundtrack...and a guest appearance from Ian. (Note to Ian: you need to make more guest appearances!) Well...we all now know where to go for afternoon tea 🧁 🍰🫖 ☕

It's a running joke in our home that whenever Richard Wells comments, he is going to say that Ian needs to have more time on camera! Did you like his avocado mask that he was wearing the church? haha Next week I'm taking a break from the Cotswolds to do a food video for fun... but after that we are back to the Cotswolds for Stow on the Wold! And you'll be chuffed to know that Ian has lots more time on camera... AND there's loads of aerial footage. I think Ian's drone photography of Stow is some of the best he has done! Cheers! XX Dara
