Orestes! I remember that well, thanks to the next-day NY Daily News clipping about what a disaster it was (it's in one of my scrapbooks). Charles L. Mee, a childhood hero of mine, had the unfortunate distinction of being the director of this train wreck. By golly, I just realized, I didn't go to this particular fiasco, which is unusually. Usually, I'm galvanized by unseen cosmic forces into buying tickets to all the bombs. My wicked fake guardian angel that day must have been asleep at the switch, otherwise to the old Pennsylvania Railroad yards I would have gone (pun)... mesmerized by bad cues, blown lines and the electrical blackout that finally put Orestes out of its self-inflicted misery. These things are so common, my theory is that it doesn't matter what the actual title of the play/musical/other production happens to be; the end result is identical, each time. Just call me sucker, as Texas Guinan would have done.
