If 'shipping' had been a thing in the 80s I wonder if people would be shipping Mandy and Patti like they sip Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess today, thhey sort of have a similar relationship (just a really close and sweet friendship tbh).

Love Patti as Eva Peron. For me, she is the definitive stage Evita that captures the essence and the power of such a powerful historical woman. I do want to add and agree with some of the other posters here and having researched the historical Eva Peron for 20 years... it is true, she was NEVER a Nazi sympathizer although this myth is still being repeated and sold. The evidence is not there. Yes, Nazi' were allowed into Argentina as in other parts of the world (including the US) but Eva really had no part in this scheme. She didn't run the country. But in LuPone's defense, she is simply repeating the criticisms of the day (and present) since many have and still think Evita was a Nazi sympathizer and the show and its makers were criticized heavily for what many deemed the romanticization of an alleged Nazi sympathizer.

I understand that Eva Peron actually worked for the Nazi Germany embassy in Bs. As. Argentina was never neutral at least not until it was apparent Germany and its allies were losing the war. Argentina had to declare neutrality so it would gain admittance into the UN.

But in any case as a Latin-American (Dominican) someone that like every other country was subject to American interventionism and revisionism.. it pains me to see even the Liberals buy into this politically correct "americur theory" Either way I admire Patty she is a tremendous singer but I must disagree sharply with this nonesense
@marypoppins76872 жыл бұрын
I agree with what you say about American interventionism and revisionism. I guess that's what a superpower has to do to keep being a superpower. However, a lot of the information in the musical is not that far from being accurate. Eva Peron was power hungry and did everything and anything she needed to do to get where she got. Don't get me wrong I admire that about her. She was gutsy and had a goal and she accomplished it at any cost. But along with all that she was resentful and engaged in the corrupt and self-serving actions Peronist administrations are famous for. She ultimately only cared about herself. She managed to show Peron that by catering to needs of the poor he would be able to get more votes that helped him get elected. She was not doing it for the people she was doing it for herself. That's how she became the First Lady of Argentina. She was NOT a Saint. Argentina to this day is suffering the consequences of her self-serving policies.
