that ending scene is what really got me. We saw Phinks character as this hot-headed, short-tempered, ruthless, and always shouting... to then essentially saying "Thank you" to the enemy in a calm manner. Brilliant writing.

Paku + Machi and Phinks + Feitan are 4 of the original founders and they actually wanted to express the same thing (loyalty to their friend Chrollo) but had disagreement on how (Franklin's approach was the most balanced). In the end Paku was able to communicate what she wanted way better than a person can put it in words, coz what she felt being around Killua and Gon is...nostalgia for childhood and a sort of naive (that's charming in its own way) POV of looking at the the world. They reminded her a bit of that and ofc words aren't enough to pass on that type of feeling so she had to use her ability which was perfect for communicating :)

That's the reason why this show is often called as a Shonen Deconstruction. Not falling to the common tropes yet doing it tastefully. We're finally moving to Greed Island, it's a awesome Arc, too. It's just that Phantom Troupe and NGL are such masterpieces writingwise that Greed Island is often overlooked by fans.

Pakunoda thanking the kids, and the rest of the Troupe being OK to let them go unscathed in the end. Togashi, it’s been over 11 years since this episode aired (over 20yrs for the manga) and you still keep blowing our minds (and heart). That’s all I can say without treading spoiler territory.

the funny thing is even when they first got taken to the base the Troupe was always nonchalant about them. I like that about troupe the most. Like if you're not part of the objective, they don't care. But if you are, it won't matter if you're a child, you're dead xD

This whole arc was such a great way to introduce a group of antagonists to the series while spending little time showing off their fighting powers, unlike most shonen anime.

Yorknew is one of my favorite arcs. The CA arc has its flaws (mainly in its execution, like the pacing and the presence of the narrator) but purely story-wise it's WAY stronger than Yorknew.

I think this diversion of expectations that Togashi does at the end of this arc is one of my personal favourites. You expect something to go wrong, for the stakes to get even higher and for everything to end with a bang, but it does none of that. The whole hostage exchange goes acoording to plan, and it just sows some little seeds of story ready to grow in the future. I also really love what it does in terms of pacing for the entirety of the arc, and how it basically leaves the Phantom Troupe's 2nd attack of the auction the climax of the arc with all of the action packed moments like Uvogin's requiem and Chrollo versus the Zoldycks. It leaves room for the story to breathe in the end in comparison to most of the anime I've watched, where they can be very quick to move to the next thing. Hope you enjoy the Greed Island arc and the rest of the series!

one of the big plusses of this climactic anti-climax is that Chrollo and Hisoka are both still alive. it'd be quiet the shame if one or both of them died. we'd lose two great characters, so it makes sense to save Chrollo and Hisoka for later :)

13:21 remember that, after death, the nen becomes stronger and stronger, this means that if that person dies and had a great devotion either to protect someone or for revenge (in the case of kurapika) the nen of that dead person may react in a way we don't know, so the phantom troupe can't kill kurapika until Chrollo is released from kurapika's judgment chain.

Basically Pakunoda died because if or if she would die according to the prediction, besides she had no other way out, since her condition was not to say anything about the whereabouts of Chrollo and Kurapika, therefore, it would be difficult to cope with that with the phantom troupe, since between them they could ruin everything; besides Pakunoda at the time of revealing only one thing would die instantly, but as her power is wonderful she managed to pass everything she knew to the original members of the phantom troupe.

Chrollo's scene was important as his fortune says "choose east, because you will certainly find someone waiting for you." that's why he said "east, huh " what's the meaning of this ??you have to figure it out Austin :D

It's so funny when reactors forget about Chrollo not having nen anymore and expect the Hisoka VS Chrollo to end up having the same reaction as Hisoka XDDDD Gon and Killua's reaction to Phinks and Feitan casually being at the auction is so hilarious too OMG 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I like how you misunderstood what is happening when the Troupe is going against eo... getting to understand the characters is such a fun part in this journey ^^ Let's go Geurido Ailando!!!

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I'm of the opinion that Pakunoda was in love with Chrollo, and wasn't just doing all of that because of companionship. Phinks' cut off line "Pakunoda was..." makes me think that, as well as her fortune. She chose betrayal instead of pride, as it would've been prideful to think that the troupe was more important than her love.
