I felt this haha. While it hasn't been an entire year since I've made a beat I thought was "good", it HAS been (more than) a year since I've actually posted/shared a beat I've made. At one point or another, instead of gettin' 3-4 beats finished that I was happy with, slapping them on an EP, and dropping them, I just kept on making more and more beats, and at some point my flow of 3-4 beats done, release them, 3-4 beats done, release them, etc etc was interrupted, and I just...didn't put out anything haha. Now, I'm to the point that I've got like Beat-Paralysis lol. I just keep going back and fucking with them more and more, and it feels like they're never done. And at the same time I keep making more and more. 😵💫🤯😵💫🤯 Hopefully by now you've been able to craft something new that you're happy with brother, typing this out has motivated me to mold the best ones I have into my first full-length and drop the ones I've been working on that way.

Not sure who the "old sounds" comment was aimed at, lol! But I got samples that are 10+ years old that will stand their own against any drums or samples u got! Plus I can make almost any drums that werent recorded bad sound as good as most! I mean unless u trying to use like 90s Casio drums or some low bit rate stuff then yeah, not sure what u meant really tho... I've been an engineer for 20 years and if u were to see/hear the drums we start with in other generes like rock or w a live band I think u wld feel way different about samples lol! But if u r just starting out and get u a good kit it will def save u some time and make your tracks alot better before they are mixed! When I say good kit I mean drum sounds that fit good together sonically and have been mixed to use together alot of the time. So yeah it's more work to go from not that good to great than good to great, but as long as there's no major issues then it's always doable...some genres even call for it...but again not sure what u meant w the og samples comment. If u got the money to get your beats mixed professionally then I wld say just pick sounds that sound good to u or fit together or can be fitted together, like u can't do a super deep kick and a super 808 with a bass guitar and low piano and yeah u get what I mean prolly. I like the video tho and really like how u try to show how simple most drum patterns are. I know I got this hip hop drum book from the guitar store in like the 90s that helped me w what you are talking about and I still look at and use all the time! It even came w a CD that u can play along with lol! It just talks about syncopation and gives the standard beats for most tracks. A long time ago I made some midi patterns w like the main 7-8 beats that I wld start from when I first started making beats. So overall I wld say yes you are right but then there is also a few more backbeats you didn't touch on but if u just starting out this is a great place to start and great knowledge!!!
@Juliano_DJOL2 жыл бұрын
I came back cause I can see what u mean now by every pattern is like this, more like this is how I start off doing your drums.

Everyone says "use good/new samples" but my question is: how did the original producers _make_ those sounds in the first place?
@MrSlimePDX5 ай бұрын
Either with real-life drums kits in a acoustically-treated room for clarity, and a professional mic for quality, or by manually creating it through software or a VST to define the attack, the reverb, the tone, etc.
nice video that helps me a lot !! thank you for that !! 🙏 did you had videos for other generes as well ? like R&B, Trapsoul, West Coast and so on ?
