Yoo YoungJin is an SM singer, songwriter and main producer. He was one of the first few artists signed under SM way back in the early '90s and he is still working with SM today. Yoo YoungJin is one of the reasons why SM is known as a vocal powerhouse company, because he has been a vocal coach for a lot of SM's artists. He is the vocal coach who helped train D.O. to be the amazing singer that you hear today. He is the one who wrote and produced EXO's pre-debut songs "History" and "What is Love," which, now that you have heard "(Tell Me) What is Love," I am sure you can hear his influence on several of EXO's songs. D.O. and aespa's Winter are his most prized students, and they have even been nicknamed Yoo YoungJin's son and daughter because they have such similar vocal styles and abilities. Yoo YoungJin has produced or collaborated on a large majority of SM's songs, and he is the one that is most often credited with coming up with the most iconic parts of SM's songs. For example, he is the one who does the ad libs and high notes in the background of Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry Answer" MV, and he is the one you hear harmonizing with Taeyeon in Girls' Generation's song "The Boys," etc. (Back in the day, his vocals and/or ad libs were used in a lot of SM's songs.) If you look up Yoo YoungJin, you would be surprised how many of SM's songs he has been involved in over the years, even still today. If you made a list, it would probably be easier to list the songs he didn't work on. LOL

He's the one that wrote most of the biggest hits for ALL SM groups. You should check him out. Youngjin is responsible for most of the debut songs for SM Entertainment artists and most of the famous SM songs are from him. I would say most of the very R&B based songs involve Yoo Youngjin. In a simple sentence... Yoo Young Jin is simply what you call a True Legend ! He's a Singer-songwriter, Producer, Vocal Trainer at SM since 1997. He was actually SM Ent's first signed artist in 1992 if I'm not mistaken and also the first mainstream K-R&B artist of South Korea. He released 3 full-length R&B, Hip Hop and Soul containing albums which are just heavenly :)

Honestly, unless they're doing choreo, EXO's backing track is purely to recreate the recorded version, to have the doubling, harmonies, etc. that they _can't_ do live bc it's heavily modulated or one person singing two-three things at once or a duet with someone who isn't there.
