I love the way that 8V71 sounds!! Years ago in my area there was an oil company that had a fleet of brockways that were equipped with those engines. Always enjoyed listening to them.

Not with his foot on the clutch pedal between shifts. It's not a footrest. Even the slightest bit of weight on that pedal will translate to pressure on the throwout bearing , which will allow the pressure plate to slip enough to cause it to wear out faster. No respect there.

Nothing sounds like an old Detroit diesel. Reminds me of the 1967 White 7000 cabover a paving company where I lived used to haul around their equipment, had a 671 Detroit and you could hear that truck halfway across town. Later on he had a 79 Peterbilt cabover and I ended up in that thing on a day trip, that had an 8V71 but all the interior paneling had been pulled out of it for some reason so it had an echo inside the cab that made you almost go deaf within a hundred miles.

Generally I like the sound of a DD 8V71, except in a Brockway. The high pitch is not right. I think it might be a combonation of the turbocharger and the design of the exhaust system, but I'm not sure.

Jeffrey Sheldrake I'm from Brisbane QLD in my book the 8V71 Detroit was the best sound of all and was installed in nearly every make of truck all around the world in their time. Even in Holland with FTF (Floor truck factory) and they were heavy haulage which replaced Mack engines which they used originally. I want to get an 8V53 and restore this old Diamond Reo sitting in a yard at Rocklea a 6x4 that came a with a 160 cummins., Also want to get a Mack R600 and 6V92 that. something different.

Nice! Why you ridin' the clutch?
@wayoutwille3 жыл бұрын
Sence I shift without using the clutch I rest my foot on the clutch pedal which just taking up the 1” of free play to keep the engine brake from coming on in between shifts an I’m also ready to use the engine brake to shift or if I need to double clutch to finish the shift,when you run heavy with an under power truck you have to be prepared for the worst,you can do a lot of driveline damage if your not on the money with your shifts without using the clutch,if you notice once I get it in top gear my foot comes off the pedal,so you might be thinking about the throw out bearing but that constantly spins up with the clutch on a big truck so the most important thing is keeping it greased
