Brocock Commander Fill Valve Repair

In this episode of our repair series, we walk you through replacing the fill valve seals on the Brocock Commander and Bantam airguns.

This appears to be a major issue with the new models of Bantam and Commander. The biggest problem isn't that these valves are failing, it's that there is no way for an owner to remove the valves. Unlike a gunsmith who may be use to making specialized tools, air gun owners are not at that level and since Brocock has chosen to employ a non-standard component in an critical and vulnerable area, it only makes sense that they also step up and provide the tool needed to service the component. I want to thank you folks at A.O.A. for providing these very important video tutorials. I find them to be invaluable and a great added value resource. Hopefully Brocock will begin providing the necessary tool to allow us to implement the knowledge you folks have provided.

the valve can be removed very easily with a pair of long nose pliers. It took me 10 minutes to change my valve at home. There are even valve tools available To purchase on ebay very cheaply.

Thanks for the video. Purchased the Commander back in Nov 2019 and the fill valve seal failed 6 months later. AoA was very supportive and sent 3 little O ring seals with 2 dowdy seals and a removal tool. This video fails to show the extreme PITA it is to put that tiny O ring on the valve. First O ring broke but by some miracle the second one slipped on. After excessive cursing and thoughts of flying to England to slap some engineers around.

What did you use to get the O-ring on? Did you use picks or just your fingers. I'm in the middle of catching hell trying to get the O-ring on the piston.

Joe , I used a dentist pick with a dull end that would not poke into the seal or scratch the valve. A punch smaller than the valve to hold half the seal on. Worked the other half on with the pick. Took many tries before it finally slipped on. Lots of cussing involved.

Thank you! I tried picks but I damaged a couple of o-rings so I had to come up with a different approach. I was about to use my waterpik when I noticed the how the nozzle tapered and had an area about the size of the piston. I cut the tip off of the nozzle at the point where the circumference of the nozzle was just slightly larger than the piston's circumference. I put the cut off piece in a vise and then carefully drilled a recess in the nozzle so that the piston could sit down in it. I lubed the nozzle and o-ring with o-ring silicon and slipped the o-ring down the nozzle onto the piston.

My Sniper XR leaks from the centre of the fill valve, after releasing bottle pressure I lose all the air. Is it simply this O ring. The rifles only 6 months old. Does the O ring dry out?

@@iamspartacus8219 it's a very poorly designed valve and a regular occurrence, get yourself a completely new high pressure full valve from Best Fittings in the UK. I changed O ring 3 times and this did not solve it, it needed a new (different brand valve) Check if your thread is M10 or 1/8th Bspp though before ordering.

@@richardhindmarsh939 Thanks for your reply. I just got the special tool to undo the fill valve, took it to bits and found the O ring split. Fitted new O ring, put some silicon oil around it and re-assembled. Filled to 250 bar and so far so good. I don’t have faith in it and have followed your advice and ordered a fill valve from best fittings, just in case, because if it happens once it will happen again. I did notice the one I took out that was split, was dry.

Steve thank you so much for this video. I just purchased a bantam sniper and had to replace the o ring the small one inside the valve on the piston. If you hadn't done this video I would have been lost. It's a bit difficult to get on but with some patience you can get it on. Thanks again I really appreciate it. Hi how did you get the rounded housing off without scuffing it. Thats the one that holds the inlet valve. I have ordered a pin wrench to remove fill valve but some people are saying its hard to take housing off.

That was very well done, Steve. One tip on o-ring lubrication, you want the minimal amount of grease to make the o-ring shiny.

I have my Commander only about 3 months and there is air leaking out of the fill valve seal now. I am going to have to bring to the gun dealer for repair. He is a couple of hours drive away from where I live. I didn’t expect this after spending €1500 on the gun plus all the other stuff you need for it. I am going back to Rimfire .22. The Commander is a lovely looking gun but I’m disgusted for sure and I don’t have time for this.

I wouldn't recommend Bantam or commander to anyone. Very difficult to access this portion for gun owners. Or to make it simpler, brocock needs to provide the required tools along with the PCP.

I am a victim of this o-ring failure. I am measuring different dimensions of the o-ring the video mentions it is a 2mm ID x 1.5mm CS, mine is measuring 2.5mm ID x 1.5mm CS (5.5mm diameter) is this correct?

I have a 2019 .22 bantam Magnum.This has never happened.I loved the gun so much,I bought another .25xr magnum.Second fill,this bullshit happens.Kudos to AOA for sending me tools to fix this.(still awaiting their arrival as we speak.) After reading about what a pain in the ass it is to get the oring around the piston,I must say I'm far from happy.However,shit happens and is to be expected with components holding back 4000psi,right? Anyhow,if this non sense continues to happen,I will be asking for permission to install an aftermarket best fittings high pressure fill valve.Others have done that from what I've read and haven't had any issues since.I would do it right now,but AOA told me to fix the OEM one so that's what I'm gonna do is follow instructions.I'm doing this once and once only.Don't have time to fix improperly engineered valve over and over.

update: I fixed it with tools from AOA and this video.Still gonna order couple replacement 1/8bsp valves from Best fittings in the u.K.(That is assuming they're not just another ghost business that doesn't answer phones during normal business hours) Which,is the case so far at the time of this writing.

update #2.While bestfittings did not answer their phone,they did quickly email me and i was ,in fact,able to order 1/8bsp replacement valves all done online.Now,we wait for them to arrive via air mail from Jolly ole England.

Brocock Commander is probably one of the worst guns ever made. They seem to go wrong all the time.
