Amazing work on your coverage of the relocation scandal!! I’ve been saying this for weeks, like the economist guy, that Vegas’ best opportunity to get an MLB franchise would be to get the A’s. If MLB is only giving out 2 expansion teams, 1 on each coast, that leaves multiple cities vying for 1 new team with Vegas. But does the city & state really want to gamble (no pun intended, I promise) with a deadbeat owner like Fisher? I really hope John Middleton, owner of the Phillies & part of the relocation committee, works to keep the A’s in Oakland & force Fisher to sell. Middleton, unlike Fisher, grew up loving the team he now owns, wants to win, makes sure the city, fans, players & staff are happy! He should listen to Bryce Harper about moving the A’s to his hometown!

The roof, assuming they can actually pull off the design, does NOT need a ‘place for the roof to go’…it’s hidden behind home plate. It’s enclose in the footprint of the stadium. Roof sits behind the permanent glass and swivels around the outfield. This enclosed the roof and turns the stadium into a snow globe. I’m not saying those renderings are real…I’m saying I understand the concept of the roof

That plaza that connects to the corner of Trop and the Blvd will not count towards the 9 acres. Ballys will easily up it to 10 or 11 if the need the footprint to increase as long as it fits into the overall plans of the property

Forget the crappy A's team and ownership for a minute. What do Allegiant Stadium, T-Mobile Arena, and even Michelob Ultra Arena have in common? They're all visible from I-15, so EVERYONE coming into Las Vegas sees them, especially Allegiant Stadium and their massive stadium side video board. The A's miniature replica MLB ballpark will be hidden behind Bally's hotel towers at an intersection Las Vegas locals avoid, and completely invisible from I-15. It's a terrible site for a multitude of reasons, but having a building that advertisers would laugh at because it's simply not visible is moronic. Tim Lieweke and AEG is EXACTLY the type of ownership group that will succeed in Las Vegas. World class venues. World class rosters. No aversion to spending whatever it takes to succeed. The exact opposite of EVERYTHING John Fisher is involved with.

It appears that Athletics will have play in a minor league park after the 2024 season. I believe the baseball player's union will have to approve playing in a minor league park. The union needs to ask the owners: Why do they need to play in a minor league park? The owners will say that the team needs to move because of low attendance. The union should state the team is not competative is the reason for the low attendance. Why is the team is not competative? The owners did have a high enough payroll to make the team competative. The union needs to say to prevent this from occuring again, the owners need to have a minimum payroll. The union should say no minimum payroll - no minor league park. Fans should support the union on this item. Watch the owners squirm. The owners might then vote to not to relocate the Athletics to prevent having to pay a minimum payroll.

Most; stadiums want to take advantage of the comfortable spring and fall and want their patrons to be comfortable in the summer. Safeco (now T Mobile Park) and the Skydome are the first that come to mind that don't because the summer climate is comfortable. But Houston, Dallas, Arizona, and Miami are practically domes during the summer months due to the heat/ humidity.

Wanna bet that the proposed NBA arena in Vegas will get some public money for road improvements and other supporting infrastructure? Pretty much all "privately-financed" arenas and stadiums get some public investment around it. Also my guess is that the arena that Leiwiki is propsing will be the type you see in San Francisco and in Inglewood, that is, a "no hockey" facility that will have better sight lines for basketball viewing. No behind the baskets seating far from the court because no space is needed for a hockey surface. Those seats will be a lot closer to the court. As to the "nine-acre" issue. The A's and Bally's will either have an acceptable plan to MLB or they won't. Just because it hasn't been done before doesn't mean it can't be. Never underestimate what architects, designers and engineers can come up with when a billion dollars is at stake. They can be very creative and they have ingenuity, which is why they are architects, designers and engineers. Creating something new out of thin air is what they do.

@@ShawnTempesta Property taxes too. The Braves did this one right with considerable thought to traffic ingress and they made a lot more parking than Turner field had by like 4000 more spots was it? No one in Cobb County is complaining. I can't find the article, but in 2023 Cobb County has already taken in more than they put in. It is not always a bad deal, look at Denver Rockies, that has worked out too. Now that said I still think using public monies for billionaire owners is intrinsically wrong and it often doesn't work out in a reasonable amount of time. Personally I believe the A's were in good faith negotiating with Oakland and Howard Terminal. Until Manfred inserted threats into the situation I'm sure the Howard Terminal deal would have went through. MLB wants a team in Vegas and one team out of the California state of confusion. I do not think Fisher had much choice. This stinks of Selig, the Expos and Loria screwing them up so Washington DC could have a team.
