Yeah it sounds creepy when phrased like that but I don't think framing Tim as a predator is 100% accurate given Brody's traumatic childhood. Brody grew up with an abusive father and her mom eventually left him and took her too. She was also taken advantage of as a child which she had to re-live through the court cases in her teenage years. I imagine Tim looked like a safe-haven to her. He had been established in the industry and had a lot to offer in terms of stability to a teenager who was dealing with trauma. Tim had his punk-rock princess. It was a mutually beneficial situation until it became toxic. Or perhaps it was toxic from the get go. Either way I don't think Tim groomed or coerced Brody as a minor and it was likely based on genuine feelings for each other. That doesn't excuse the illegality of the age in anyway but sheds some light onto the emotions potentially at play between the two. The tragedy here is that Tim was a very controlling partner according to Brody and his actions after the divorce are pretty disturbing. It took her 3 years to work up the courage to leave him and then Tim then tried to have her band blacklisted from the punk scene, threatened the male members in the band and wrote songs like this that re-framed the narrative into him being the heartbroken victim. He sent Josh Homme death threats at one point too. There is also a lot going on between the major events here. The band was relentlessly touring and the original Distillers line-up started to dissolve after Sing Sing Death House with Brody being the only original member by Coral Fang's release. Her band line-up shifted paralleled her personal life which I always found interesting.
