I'm amazed how close up you can get to the board and still not find any flaws between the main piece of wood and the inlays. It really is incredible work.

Ty for the close up. For me, I always try to have less gaps. But if you can do it, it must be acceptable. Assume filled in with glue so no area for juices to go. Beautiful.

Good call on the juice groove, every one of my store bought boards have overflown on a Texas steak night.

Stepcraft seems to have the best value in prosumer cnc routers if you compare quality to cost

@Broinwood16 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I’ve done some projects with face-grain inlay. I’ll share them here later, but it was a wall sign, not a cutting board.

I want to do more wood inlays, but struggle with ideas on what to do for the inlay. How do you come up with the designs for your boards?
@Broinwood16 күн бұрын
I usually draw inspiration from themes that resonate with me or the customer, such as nature, animals, or meaningful symbols. Recently, I've been exploring vintage art and books for ideas, transforming them into high-contrast, vector-style designs perfect for inlay work. If you're unsure where to start, begin with simple shapes or designs you like and gradually try more complex ones. Sketching or using design software can help refine your ideas before working with the wood. broinwood.com/collections/cnc-files?page=1

Hi Nick, Great work as always, Does it get any easier with experience, Or do you still have difficult moments when making the boards? Hey, If you don't mind, Would you please answer a few things for me? What roughing bit do you use, and do you use it before the finishing tapered ball nose or after? Thank you and have a great Christmas and 2025 New Year. Regards, Michael
@Broinwood16 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yes, it definitely gets easier with experience, but sometimes I spend a lot of time thinking about the best order to make the inlay or how to split the design correctly. I use an Amana 46473 and a 1/8" end mill for the inlay. The bit order doesn’t matter for end-grain inlay. Happy holidays!
@michael-m-de1ck15 күн бұрын
@@Broinwood Hi Nick, Thank you for your reply, and Happy Holidays to you. Do you know of other options for CNC bits that are cheaper, but still have very good quality as my budget doesn't quite stretch to Amana bits? If I were in your league of making awesome inlays, I would invest in Amana bits, but for now, I need to watch the budget, but I still want quality in the bits and the end result in any project. Keep up the awesome work. Regards, Michael

I've been following in your footsteps. I'm miles behind you in skill and quality, but I am learning. What do you think about Tung oil (100%, no additives)? I've been using it for most of my recent projects, but the community seems split on using that as a finish.
@Broinwood16 күн бұрын
Honestly, I have never used it for my boards-just mineral oil and beeswax-but I definitely need to read more about it because I’ve heard a couple of times that people use it.

where did you buy those green clamps?

Looks Awesome! What are the size of the slabs (width and thickness) used during the glue up to make the board (and is it the same for the inlay). Great work though!
@Broinwood15 күн бұрын
Thank you! The strip size is about 2x1", and I usually use the same strip size for the inlay blanks.

hello, I also visited your website, I am interested in buying some files but had some questions, do you have a email that can ask questions? I have Vectric V12 are the files compatible and will open fine on my version?
