I’ve done a few of these. I saw the video from Troec also. Do you adjust the inlay for the kerf? I’ve done 1/2 the kerf for a tighter fit. Love the process.

Did you not have to mirror the veneer layer in Lightburn? Both layers are facing the same direction in lightburn, but the veneer layer was reversed on the machine, which allowed you to glue the bookmatched layers together.

@jackhelm9852Ай бұрын
I absolutely love this type of video and beg you to do more of them. However the problem with these style of videos is where a key piece of explanation is not covered. So when I get halfway through doing what you showed, I get stuck. How do you line up the taped up image when gluing it down? Do you use some sort of registration marks or are you just eyeballing it? I have a hard time imagining that I am going to be able to line up something even half that complex and get every little part in the right spot just by eyeballing it. Please tell me you had some sort of trick to get over this that was not in the video?

Good idea. I'm going to head over to my local HVAC guy and see if I can get a sample of the tape before I spend the money for an entire roll. About how deep is your inlay? I'll be using a 10/30W diode laser and will need to do a materials test to get the correct depth.
@makeorbreakshopАй бұрын
Probably about 1/8 in, just deep enough for the thickness of the veneer. You can run multiple passes so you don’t have to have it all dialed in from the beginning.
@LarryDMitchellАй бұрын
@@makeorbreakshop Sounds good. I was able to score a TON of veneers from a woodworker who was downsizing in my area. The price was great and I got an awesome variety of wood species. I've already used some of it to cut out a name or design and glue it over the original design. When I saw your method of using inlays I thought it was genius. Thanks for the idea.

Since I’m not actually cutting out the image you don’t need a kerf adjustment, it’s a picture engrave that takes that into account.
