When I had my Daughter, due to being low income, EVERYTHING was covered, and they gave us a voucher to go pick out a new crib. We got food stamps and wic so we didn't have to worry about food AT ALL. Her Mother also got prenatal vitamins, a breast pump, and other things she needed, for free. I live in the Philippines now. You know what happens if you don't have money to pay for a hospital birth here? You have your baby at home and try to come up with enough money to pay a mid-wife. If you have a child, or go to a hospital for any reason here, and you can't pay, they don't let you leave, and your bill continues to add up. And you can face serious repercussions.
