Some nice information and insights, and also some lack depth. Nadakrishna Deb didn't reflect the cultural ethos of society at that time. Prof. Minakshi Jain has established that the Data on Widow burning incidents were largely faricated by the Christian missionaries , and actually Widow burning was rate. Bengali Hindus held a strong Hindutva identity between 1880s to 1920s. The deracination gradually began with entry of communist movements since mid 1920s. The Bangla language movement of East Pakistan began in 1950s, when Urdu was declared as the only national language of Pakistan. Then suddenly Tagore became popular even among Muslim Bengalis , who used to earlier reject Tagore as a Poet of Hindus only. India ( may be Gumnami baba ) might have played a crucial role in inflaming Bangla language movement in east Pakistan, to break it. Otherwise, nowhere in world Muslims have kept language above religion. Even in Muslim majority areas of Kolkata, you find wall notices written in Urdu. So, religion has been always the primary identity of Muslims . Overall, I expected much better from deep.
