It's pretty pretty absurd that requiring people to register for an extended warranty is an acceptable business practice with how much every single one of these tool companies advertise this warranty heavily. It's just a sneaky way to get out of honouring the warranty as I'd be genuinely surprised if as much as 10% of the people buying the tools register the warranty.

it is sneaky. People see 3 or 5years warranty on the box and think they will be fine. Most euro countries are 2 years minimum for whatever you buy, some are changing for 3 years minimum. 1 year only is absurd, specially for a 500eur machine.

Great video Dean. I think ai brought me here. Enjoyed the fix. Got a very old heavy light green bosche hammer drill. Only gets used once in a blue moon. Not my line of work. Did I hear right. Buyer can prove Date of purchase from bank card receipt but did not keep purchase receipt & also did not register for warranty. If I got that right. Many sellers won't even give you the years guarantee without the receipt. Probably only the goodwill of the trader. Bit harsh. Seems to be crucial. Must be able to present the receipt as it is your dated proof of purchase. Been caught out loads of times when I have not keep receipts. Plenty would say my own fault for not doing that. One I've seen recently that annoys is items with 3 year guarantee slapped all over the box. Something goes wrong and the supplier will give you what you paid for the goods or a replacement but I have to pay the price difference for the new one which is always more. Seems like a con to me. If something breaks in the 3 years they should just replace it. End of story. What to people think? Cheers BigbadBob.

Nice vid! FYI: In EU you have to have to proof you bought it. A banknote orso will do; not only "have to have the receipt" applicable. So, alwyas pay by card. Further more, garanty stretches towards the ".. average and acceptable lifetime..." of simulair products, being most often way longer then the 2 years minimum. A quality piece of machinerie like Bosch....... much more then the 3 years mentioned. Consummer right on the continent.

I registered 6 tools I bought(individually) with Bosch using the included cardboard insert, nowhere did it say I had to warranty online. Fast forward a year and my gop 28n(the one you just fixed) stopped functioning. Bosch tried telling me none of my tools were registered. Luckily they must’ve known I was being honest and “back” registered my tools. Sent me a brand new multi tool. On old one speed control was fine, it was vibrating but not cutting. They said it was the gear box in the head? I did forget to register my replacement though 😂 this was in the states btw

This kind of warranty issues are actually a legislative problem. Here the vendors have to manage warranty (not the manufacturer directly) and there's a legal minimum of 24 moths for everything except specified consumables (for tools and machines, some other consumer products may have shorter warranty). And you don't need a warranty certificate or even a written receipt, you can use any purchase proof document including electronic (e-mail) receipts and even bank records if things escalate to a legal complaint. Big brand tools are usually serviced, but cheap/hobby ones more often get replaced entirely.

I have one of the older Hitachi DH38YE hammer drills that had the same problem but it took me forever to figure out that the O ring seals in it was shot so i ended up changing out to new O rings in the driver, striker and the piston and it still wouldnt hammer right so i changed out the grease and slapped everything back together and it was fine but what i didnt know is those hammers take a specific type of grease. Since i didnt know that i kept adding lithium grease in a tube which i also figured out was too thick and couldnt work up the air pressure bubble that fast. Those take a much thinner type of grease so that the air pressure bubble in the mechanisms builds faster and hammers correctly. As far as the O ring seals after i looked closely i noticed the O ring seal in the driver was flattened a bit on the outside so there was no contact onto the cylinder in order to build up the friction to hammer. All in all i just ran into this video about a week or so too late but nonetheless my hammer drill is back to working as it should. I do mining and that set me back for about a week before i figured out the hammering problem.

Always register the warranty, the customer won't make that mistake again. But Bosch needs to sort out why these are breaking so easily, as that machine looked like it had seen very little work. To be honest Bosch should cover the replacement of the broken part, even out of warranty, as it's obviously not fit for use and I thought that was covered under consumer law.

Under the EU’s Consumer Sales and Guarantees Directive, all goods purchased in the EU come with a minimum two-year legal guarantee. This guarantee applies regardless of any extended warranty offers by the manufacturer. • Within 6 months: If the tool malfunctions within 6 months of purchase, the law presumes the defect existed at the time of delivery. The seller must repair, replace, or refund the product at no cost to you unless they can prove you caused the issue. • 6 to 24 months: Between 6 months and 2 years, you may need to prove the defect was not caused by misuse. This typically involves demonstrating that the tool failed due to a manufacturing defect or inherent issue.

@nickmail7604
@nickmail7604 13 күн бұрын
@cristianstoica4544 well EU law is fact, the one year warranty is with the maker, who will often agree to extend it if you register online as Dean has said, but the EU 2 year guarantee is with the seller of the item, so if you bought the tool from a local DIY outlet it is they who have a responsibility to meet the repair cost or the replacement cost for 2 years from the date of sale, I knew that to be fact when the UK was part of the EU and just checked to see if it was still on the EU statute books and it is. In the UK many outlets had begun to do the online registering for the buyer because that way the extended manufacturer warranty got them out of this obligation, however we left the EU and its all changed in the UK now.
