What you said in the video is a fair reflection on how I felt! Far too hot, struggled all the way and was glad to see the finish. Could have stopped several times. Spoke to you Kayleigh just before 12 miles. Must have been similar time I was caught in your photo. Well done both of you. I hated it so much I’ve signed up for another 3 years 🙈

Massive congrats to you both guys on getting it done. 1.44 and 1.54 are superb times, you should both be mega proud. Never been so glad not to have signed up! Haven't done it since 2017 and really wanna give it another go, but it's always a hot weekend. This one was especially hot though! I know a few that have vowed never again, probs until the ballot opens again haha! Massive well done again and hope to see you soon x

Aw thank you mate, we appreciate it! I still love it, it’s one of the best races in terms of atmosphere! We’ve both signed up for the 3 year’s membership 😂😂 so it can’t have scarred us that much! 🤣 thanks for watching and yes, hopefully catch up soon!

Well done to you both! Great video, really captures how tough the run is, and how great the support and atmosphere is. I struggled with that heat, and I couldn't even go under 2 hours. What a scorcher.

I ran this and I didn’t mind the heat, was doing it for charity with others so went into the race quite far at the back knowing I wouldn’t get a PB. The after race rain totally ruined the day for me, metro flooded and mile long queue to get a bus out of there. Third time I’d ran the GNR and vowed it would be my last. Probably end up doing it again this year for charity.

Congrats on getting round, and a great time given the conditions. That was my 4th GNR and by far the toughest one. Went out at goal pace and decided it wasn't worth it after 4/5 miles. Never seen that many people walking or worse on a GNR, stopped to help some guy out who was about to collapse at around mile 9. Always the next race.

Good Job on getting it done, you both beat my time. I managed a PB of 1.55.16 which was a 5 minute quicker then my previous best time. I was doing OK until I hit the outskirts of South Shields. I was battling through the heat and an aching knee but I think seeing so many runners flaked out on the ground surrounded by St John's ambulance people messed with my head a bit and I mentally gave up. Up to then I had managed to keep my legs running but took the decision to run-walk for a bit. Once I got to the front the amazing support along that last mile kept me running over the line. Amazing support as ever, but I do wish the had easier tops on the water bottles they were passing out lol

Well done to you too Mike 👏 any sort of PB in those conditions is commendable 🙌🏻 Chris saw lots of people struggling, luckily, I didn’t see any of that as I think it might’ve thrown me off too. I hope everyone was okay! I agree about the water bottles 😂

Way to get it done. I saw the post race weather on Cole Running's channel. Looked awful. Amazing how it went from insanely hot to cold / damp. Ran a half marathon myself last weekend. Started at 8500 feet elevation and ended at 5500. My quads were smashed and the last 2 miles felt like Chris's experience. You guys both had fantastic times given the conditions though.
@those2runners
@those2runners Жыл бұрын
Thank you Eddie and massive well done on yours too, that’s some elevation! Yeah we watched Cole’s, I think he got hit by the weather more than we did, luckily we live nearby so had a car parked near the finish, as lots of people were stuck without transport out of there! Thanks for the continued support 😊

Well done guys that must have been tough. I live in London and on the Sunday of the GNR I foolishly didn't get out for my long run until late morning and bailed out after an hour as felt dreadful. That weekend, locally we had the hottest September days since 1949 so no wonder it was tough. A shame the GNR couldn't have started earlier when it might have been a little cooler.

Thanks Geoff - you did right, the heat is not to be messed with! It’s always a shame when it lands on race day, so the only choice was to try and be sensible. Thank you for watching and hope you weren’t too bad after running in the blistering heat! 😊

Well done both. It was really tough conditions. Waiting in the pen for a long time in the sun and then running in the heat too...wow! There were so many people fainting and needing oxygen on the side that to finish safely was so important. My girlfriend and I got round in 2.28 😊

Another Great video 👍 it really captured how tough the run was on Sunday. and how great the atmosphere was, was really scary seeing how many people needed emergency help, really hope everyone was ok 🙏. Half marathon PB 1.46. Came into GNR with sub 1.45 training. Blew up at 5 miles and ended up with 2.20. Gutted but know many others in the same boat, or even worse! Running in 23 degrees heat is not my cup of tea!

My 7th and final GNR and because I've lost my mojo, I walked it all (04:08:25) and I got caught in that horrendous downpour on the Prince Edward Road (mile 11). We had to walk on the path going down towards the Coast Road and there it had flooded and it was up to my calves! No medal placed around my kneck this year but I understand why not and, they had run out of medium t-shirts so I've had to make do with a large one. I was grateful for that foil blanket though!

to answer your question "how did you cope with the heat", my answer is that I didn't. I wilted badly, and ran my slowest ever half marathon. then to top it off, I got stuck in South Shields when the metro was closed due to the flooding, took me over 4 hours to get back into Newcastle to my car - I certainly won't forget this event in a hurry!
