I love how Sofie treats everyone with respect no matter how poor the taste or bad the damage she just gently lets the homeowner know what needs to be done and it is amazing how much she is able to do with very little money.

I know this is old but how the heck could she ever think this was acceptable in any way. How could she even live in a house like that.

In her mind, everything looked great. True, other than the peeling paint and wallpaper, broken rusty railings, dried-blood paint color, and rotting back steps. Three adults there and none of them could pick up a scraper and a paintbrush.

How could you not even notice the next door neighbor’s curb appeal was really nice while yours looks like there could be a drug den flourishing inside? People notice, and figure if it’s that bad outside it isn’t worth looking inside.

@@tonibauer2405 Absolutely. When my husband and I were house hunting, we never would have entered that place. Right or wrong, when the outside is a rundown wreck, it's assumed the interior is the same.

This house is in The Junction, a neighbourhood in Toronto (Ontario, Canada). I believe this was filmed in 2008, but now in 2021 houses in that neighbourhood go for an average of $933,147.

If I saw a house like this, I would not balk at offering up to $150 thousand. That would leave another $100 thousand for extensive renovations. If it was the only offer from someone who was selling without an agent, it could have been accepted. A flipper would have loved it.

Based on the narrative when they were taking the steps / deck down, I think they just removed them. Didn't repair or replace.

@@gbrickcommercialre so you walk out back and plunge to the ground? They must have put a set of steps up. I’d like to see what they did.
@gbrickcommercialre
@gbrickcommercialre 3 жыл бұрын
@Cranky Grandma - you're right. I thought there would still have been some type of platform remaining after they removed the stairs and part of the deck but I took another look and they removed the structure right outside the kitchen door so yes, one would tumble into the abyss. They would have had to install a basic staircase at the very least, and it would have been good if they'd shown what they put back there to replace what was demolished.

The owner clearly forgot that she wasn't a tenant anymore; not maintaining the exterior, decor/furniture choices, etc. But to sell the house with NO experience or help as a first house owner, was a waste of time.

Uh, no. She was fair and honest, not mean and snarky. She was really nice to the homeowner and it will be good for this young woman to learn the reality of homeownership if she hears more comments on the show. I hope she benefited from this show by learning more about what it takes to take care of a house you own. Renting is better sometimes.

She's just looking for free repairs IMHO. Most of the ones on here are just poor design choices or other issues...this was a structurally unsound entrance on BOTH sides. If you can't even be bothered to paint and remove wallpaper before trying to sell a home, and think you can still sell it on your own, you're delusional.
