What on earth did that beautiful wood do to be painted? Why does she think that "potential byers" hate beatiful wood? I have seen several episodes - and she never ever leaves wood unpainted. It is sometimes pains me to see the texture and the wonderful warm tone of living wood gone in every episode.

Shed is from the UK. Thats a factor.
@sortathesame87012 жыл бұрын
Take a closer look at the wood, it is just cheap paneling, not at all attractive when you see it in person! For some reason, there was a time when people thought putting up dark paneling created an "elegant' room. In reality, it just reminds most people of trailer parks. Nothing wrong with living in a trailer park, but you have to pay $1,300,000 to do so! The kitchen cabinets were just the cheapest pine cabinets available and not suitable for a million dollar home! I do agree that she sometimes paints wood when it isn't needed, but for the most part unpainted wood is just not popular today and doesn't give the clean fresh look that owners want.

Painting that panelling is criminal. These shows always go for the blandest possible look. That panelling was beautiful. Interiors nowadays always feel like you're drowning in porridge.

My first thought, they better not paint over that beautiful real walnut paneling original to the house. GD it they freaking did. I can’t tell you how mad that makes me 🤬. They could have spent all that money on the kitchen. And what the heck is wrong with an office? MOST upscale houses have one. Not everyone buying house has a litter of kids. And the original dining room light fixture was way better - how about updating the Lowes ceiling fan in the living room instead? I’ve watched a ton of these and this is by far the most criminal. Sophie needs to stick to semidetached, row housing where her “expert” changes won’t do too much damage. Sorry for the rant over a silly show, but I love midcentury architecture.
@nonawolf74953 жыл бұрын
Ditto - I was incensed when she destroyed the wood walls! She obliterated the mid-mod character of the home, and turned it into a bland, nondescript box with no personality. There are so few mid-mod gems left in the world... another one bites the dust.
@AgentAO73 жыл бұрын
They should have left at least the middle part panelling to highlight the fireplace. I love the 70’s retro feel of the home before. All they had to do was change the furniture & window treatment.

That house was stunningly beautiful the way the gentleman had it. He knew he had a chic, cool place. He knew the value of a mid-century gem. I am sorry he couldn't keep it. I am one of these people who feels comfortably snug & cozy in darker spaces. Natural wood feels luxurious to me. Only my opinion, of course.

What's an absolute travesty is the things which were off-putting were the kitchen, and the "door to nowhere." She always thinks she needs to paint paneling and wood, but that house is a '70s bungalow-style, and his furniture plays that up, without being tacky. Honestly, this house is my dream home. It's a rare-find to see something that hasn't been cheaply "flipped", and not white walls, cheap trim, and weird layouts. Heck, even the realtor said "They don't like the kitchen." They didn't say, "please paint the wood." Kitchens are expensive, so buyers are easily thrown by the thought of trying to update one. Also, ffs, I hate the "feminine touch" garbage. Why are house shows always so sexist? I'm a woman. I love his house.

It was a fabulous idea to install the frosted glass and get rid of that ridiculous door! However, the handrail balusters definitely should have been removed! They should have installed a “Halved Newel Post” on the wall next to the outside corner of the new “window”. Because you still have a handrail and balusters in front of a “window” and it just looks silly. I sincerely hope he received some serious offers and was finally able to sell his house to fulfill his dream! What a beautiful dream it is...
