that stuff is amazing! I found it on ebay and I needed something to seal of a little divot on my les paul neck on the side below the nut. She fell off the strap WITH STRAP LOCKS and hit the floor. Could have been worse but it drives me crazy knowing it's there. I thank you for your vids as a working father of two kids I have little extra $$ for sending out repairs so with your help I'm able to get it done myself with the occasional gooch.

Nice work, Dave. Had me wonderin' trying to trickle glue down the sides of the damage. The pins should hold i'd like to say forever, but...:). I have a circa '83 Cort Arrow with a headstock repair. I always feel if it wasn't for that 3" long truss rod cover the headstock would have broken off when it fell in '00. $150 used in '96 and buy of the decade for me. I think i spent $60.00 on the repair Even though the damage can be seen, it's still in one piece.

Hi Dave, I am a luthier as well, and am using Gluboost products. I recently fixed a cracked neck 's scar on the back of the neck's finish and it came out pretty good, but I did have a problem with the masking I used sticking to the fill n' finish. In this repair what did you use for the masking material? BTW, I sub'd your channel cause you seem to be doing tings much like me, and I learned some stuff watching you. Good Stuff! Thanks.

Yeah Uriah Heep! Amazing live band. Saw them a few years ago and they blew away lots of the young bands. The first thing that W.A.S.P. did on stage, was to tell everyone how they inspired them. Love it. There is a compilation Album called "The Golden Palace" (not the song itself) that just works as a great best of playlist. Albums are very cheap. Btw...great repair! You got the Gluboost, the Fill and Finish Pro and the Colour Matching stuff. When you talk about clear you mean the Fill and Finish Pro stuff? What's the colour company? 7:40 Did you make a video for that broken headstock? I'd love to see it. The main re-glueing was also GB wood epoxy or was the surface enough for titebond?

Can you get the same or similar results with regular CA? I've done a few drop fills on my strat neck with regular ca and it turned out really good. I had looked into using the glue boost but it seemed pricey for what I wanted it for.
@onpsxmember
@onpsxmember 6 жыл бұрын
There are tons of different CA-Glue. It's not all the same. The thinner it is, the faster it cures. Some CA glues are getting very milky after curing and some turn yellow-ish after a few years. So at least one that stays clear and goes well with tints would be needed. It all depends if the repair is worth it. But in this case, the tinting only in the crack area is less work than sanding everything down and spraying with the airbrush or in the booth. I can recommend the pages from Henkel online to get to the glue you want or you can call them for free. There is CA-Glue that allows a bit when a bit more flexability is needed. Others stay totally transparent so you can see through, some can bond even hard to glue plastics...worth looking into. Also, if you got a decent glue you can tell exactly how much temperature is needed to make it brittle again. Like for flooding fretslots from the side or something else you might want to take apart again some time without ripping it apart.

There's lots of vids on youtube on fixing them. Lots of different methods as well. Which one to use kinda depends on what kind of break it is. Sometimes you get a long but clean break with lots of surface area. Pretty easy to just coat with wood glue and clamp up. Others you have very little surface area to glue so you need reinforcements. And others blow up and fall apart into tiny bits. Seek professional help.

I get the feeling it's a go in after job finishwise. Feller stated in the vid he had the owner play it for a while to make sure the repair wasn't going to blow out and fail again, no sense in painting it if that happens yeah? it was likely a month or so after the repair was actually done if I had to guess.

Folk are quick to blame the extra degrees of Gibson's head stock angle for a weakness in this part of the neck, but really, how about not dropping it in the first place.

Damn right ! If you want to do gymnastics while playing a guitar, invest in strap locks, then you won't risk expensive repairs after every gig !
@Kaiveran
@Kaiveran 6 жыл бұрын
It's not the headstock angle that's the issue, it's the fact that they use a single piece of timber all the way through, letting the wood grain create a natural "fault line" at the headstock...and *on top of this*, they remove a chunk of wood from an already structurally weak area for truss rod access, rather than a stronger point such as, say, where it joins the body... I get what you're saying, and everyone should exercise caution with their instruments, but the fact of the matter is...shit happens, and owning a Gibson puts you at a distinct disadvantage WRT damage to your musical output and/or wallet in the case of said shit happening.
@Kaiveran
@Kaiveran 6 жыл бұрын
Ian Clarke Strap locks are a gift from the heathen gods of demon music, I agree. Every guitar should have them.
@onpsxmember
@onpsxmember 6 жыл бұрын
It's a bad design and they know it. It's more likely to break and you can drop all sorts of other guitars with a volute or just with a little less angle. They might break at a really hard drop but Gibsons break like crazy. Repair guys know it...you just get tons of those compared to other guitars. As Kaiveran Lugheidh mentioned, the other reason is the grain that becomes short grain because of the change in angle while the wood fibres point straight ahead. That's why multi laminate, opposing grain and the flipped reglueing in the first few frets ala Ibanez is much stronger. Still, the lesser the angle the less likely the break at a vertical drop on the back.
@alecjahn
