Interesting. I was comparing this with my 1981 train trip from Sydney to Broken Hill: overnight to Parkes, anachronistic breakfast stop in station restaurant and change of trains to the "Silver City Comet", a railcar-pretend-streamliner sort of train repowered by Detroit Diesel truck-type engines (visible to me through open access doors at some point). The train actually had a dining section with table service. At one desolate point the train stopped for a lineman to repair a broken phone wire trackside, they let me out to take photos. Broken Hill had big old abandoned mine buildings (walking distance from station) with 1952 calendar still hanging on an office wall. Return trip to Sydney overnight on the Indian Pacific. Modest speeds and rough track in places. A trip back in time!

Well done, thanks for taking the time. I caught the bus twice from BH back to Sydney, I wish this service was available back in the 80's. Cheers.

Thanks for sharing. This is one trip that I wish I had done when living in Sydney prior to moving in 1981. I have been as far as Orange on that direct line, but no further. I have also been to Mudgee by train via Lithgow years ago.
@AustNRail Жыл бұрын
Shame Mudgee now cut off at Kamdos. That missing link would provide an alternative trip into Dubbo
@RGC198 Жыл бұрын
@@AustNRail Does the train still go to Kandos? I thought it was cut off at Lithgow. It really doesn't make much sense why they just couldn't keep the Mudgee trains going. yes, extending the line to Dubbo via Mudgee would be a great idea. Unfortunately, governments never seem to know what most of their voters actually want done.
@AustNRail Жыл бұрын
@@RGC198 you are correct, no passenger services beyond Lithgow towards Mudgee. There is however regular freight trains. I looked at all the stations along the route and they are in great condition. I’m certain the train would be popular if the line was reinstated back to Mudgee. I know I would head up there and check out the vineyards.

@@AustNRail Years ago, my wife and I traveled from Sydney to Mudgee by train and it was great. We had to change trains at Lithgow, where a rail motor ran between Lithgow and Mudgee.

Great video. It does show one thing though, and that is how loud the engines are on Xplorer/Endeavour cars. (even over the music) They actually grate after a while. So dated now, but don't expect anything else for a long time.
@albert38013 ай бұрын
The new CAF Regional trains are being delivered at the moment that will replace these Xplorer units. They will still feature some noise because just like Explorers on the video, the CAF trains will have underfloor engines.
