For anyone, who hasn't experienced this problem yet. Please have a closer look at your laptops. if you hear some kind of cracking sound while opening the laptop lid, it is a clear signal that the hinges are too tight. I ignored it for a year and now I have a laptop with broken hinges.

@@adarozer pretty much all laptops have that problem if they have two hinges… Most MacBooks in my experience don’t seem to have that because they have a better support structure and the body isn’t ever made out of plastic (at least nowadays)… Some newer laptops like the 360 ones usually are fine with it because the hinges are better designed for it…

Thank you for the video! I received an MSI GE76 Raider from my school as I am currently enrolled in a game design program, so we get all of our equipment and supplies sent to us. Just yesterday I noticed part of the hinge was beginning to break off. Never handled the laptop roughly either. Going to fix this before it gets worse.

How is this fix holding? Did you loose a little bit the hinge bolts to reduce the tension?

Same thing happened to my GE66. I was able to do the exact same thing with JB Weld and it worked, I also loosened the hinges a bit with a 5mm wrench. I waited about 20 hours before even attempting to move the hinge just to make sure the glue was set in properly.

But what happens if you ever need to replace the panel for some reason? I would think the bezel is going to be difficult if not impossible to remove with this.

Same thing happening with my MSI laptop...guess they have very poor hinge design.

Yes it is. My MSI Apache Pro did exactly the same thing. One thing this video does not mention is to get rid of the cause as part of the fix. The cause is that the hinges are too tight. Loosen them by undoing the nut at the end of the hinge slightly. Mine was so tight that when you open the laptop the base (keyboard) comes up unless you put a finger on it. That is the issue with MSI - the hinges are way too tight, compounded by the fact that the hinge is also way too short, so the force on the plastic is huge!

@@shambhangal438 Are replacement parts purchasable after you self-loosen your hinges? MSI wanted me to pay 800 just to repair the external damage from the hinge snapping through the plastic. Laptop still works, just been using it as a pc with a monitor for now

@@demiseduke8000 I didnt' need any. There are some available on eBay but they are often overpriced. I have fixed shattered plastic before though - an inner shelf door on a freezer. I used gel superglue and small pieces of clear flexible plastic, and its lasted for 3 years so far, which is quite an cheievement given its on the inside of a freezer! The repair plastic has to be more flexible than the plastic you are fixing. I used the thick plastic you see in the more ridged blister packs (such as for tools when the plastic blister is not stuck to the cardboard back, but instead the cardboard slides into the plastic). I just glued small (1cm by 0.5cm) pieces of the clear plastic onto the inner side of the door. If my laptop had cracked, I'd have done the same on the inner side of the lid, then put a laptop protector skin over it all to hide the still visible hairline cracks if I could. If the cracks were on the hinges, I'd just leave them.

Interesting approach and I think I'll try it with my Dell - same issue. Thanks and appreciate your time to post this. But Joe, your mic picked up the crinkly sounds when you were lifting the epoxy off of the foil to apply it. Your voice explanations sounded like you were whispering. Maybe clip the mic to your shirt so it picks you up better and makes it easier to hear you.

I opened up my computer one time and i heard cracking noises it was the thing he fixing on right now and everytime i open it up it gets worse. And every time i try to close it something blocks it from shutting i think its a loose hinge.

Crap Man, mine also. Add one more MSI Laptop GP75 Leopard. Right hinge just broke yesterday. Just over a year old (bought May 2019). Worst experience so far with Sales and Service. Still in warranty though. Yet they say its physical damage not covered in warranty >>It is caused by improper usage. What does that even mean????!!! Never buying another MSI again.

Jesus christ, my broken hinge is also a MSI laptop. It's almost 3 years old now, the model is GE73VR (2017). Probably never gonna buy MSI again until they improve this hinge design

Shitty hinges are a ubiquitous part of laptop design. You need to specifically look for laptops with well designed hinges to avoid this shit.
