Tell us the truth, you were messing with Jamie and drove the tractor into the ditch.
@lukestrawwalker7 жыл бұрын
You tore it up... that's why we can't have nice things! LOL:) Seriously, not too bad, could have been worse. They make those rakes with the joining plates deliberately thin to give way when they hit an obstruction. Personally I'd prefer they made the plate beefy enough to handle the stress and have the bolts shear off clean if it hits something rather than bend stuff to heck and back, but that's just me. At least you didn't turn it into a pretzel like OLF's wheel rake a few years ago. Later! OL J R :)

Pouring water on a fresh weld defeats the purpose of trying to make a weld strong
@byronmill8 жыл бұрын
You have no idea what you are talking about. They were welding plain mild steel and there was substantial cooling time between the weld and the water application. Even if they had done it immediately it would not have affected the weld. There is no hardness or tempering issues to deal with when welding mild steel. The water was applied to make sure there were no smoldering embers of dry grass/hay or grease.
@kingmansfinest88958 жыл бұрын
+byronmill who told you that's mild steel ? Don't make assumptions.
@byronmill8 жыл бұрын
A lifetime of experience has told me that. I have spent endless hours, repairing, building and designing equipment, especially farm equipment. Those parts are mild steel. The vast majority of the steel used to fabricate machinery like this is mild steel. Only in high stress areas or bearing surfaces are more expensive steels used.
@kingmansfinest88958 жыл бұрын
+byronmill as have I unless you have went and tested the metal don't make assumptions bud
@byronmill8 жыл бұрын
But it is fine for you to assume that it is not mild steel, even though that IS the standard for all of these types of fabrications. A simple grinder spark test would prove that. You will never get anything done on a farm with your methods. Good luck, buddy!

i'd say you got the best woman in your area. in my area. the girls here have what we call "the country beauty" which is...... lest just say bad for now
@lukestrawwalker7 жыл бұрын
True... gotta search long and hard for a good one... I dated a lot of girls with "princess syndrome" as I called it, or "23 going on 14"... still thought they were a princess and would grow up to live in a mansion, drive a fancy car, have everything they ever wanted, and live happily ever after. Real life doesn't work like that most of the time, especially on the farm. Finally found a GOOD woman and glad I did... life would have been miserable with one of the "princesses"... Had to explain being a "harvest time widow" to my nephew's girlfriend a few years ago... she thought she was being neglected because he was in the field or driving truck a lot. I explained to her "when it's time to farm, it's time to farm, work has to come first" and that includes planting time and harvest time, getting ready to plant as well, and maybe crunch times here and there throughout the year. Plus, in their case, deer season LOL:) Just goes with the territory with a farmer. They'll make it up to you when the work is done and the crunch is over... She got it; they married this past summer... Later! OL J R :)

Couldn't you save lots of money on seeds but saving from from the corn you grow?
@HowFarmsWork8 жыл бұрын
+Rod Hays We could if we grew conventional seed. What we use is patented and can't be replanted.
@ArnieD178 жыл бұрын
Today's corn are hybrids. You just don't know what you are going to get if you save seed. More importantly you stand a chance of getting your butt sued off by the seed company.
@RodHays8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply,looks as though the genetically engineered seeds have more net profit than conventional seeds and you don't have to save any seeds. The Amish save there seeds from year to year around here.

Looks nice, don't see how it doesn't drive you crazy, but if you like wearing it that way, more power to ya... Just one word of warning-- around MACHINERY, be sure you put it up/back and keep it away from anything that might catch it, especially rotating parts... being scalped is no fun. Just not worth the risk-- tie it back, put it up under a hat (which is a good idea anyway for UV exposure/skin cancer risk later in life...) Safety first and be careful! Later! OL J R :)
