Broken Roads is a slightly wonky love letter to the Fallout franchise, featuring possibly-mutated-kangaroos, mysterious sex trophies, and a deeply confusing philosophical morality system...

Fun fact, Townsville is actually one of Australia's main garrison cities so it would make a lot of military sense to nuke it in addition to the more obvious reason of it being Townsville.

Got a couple Aussie friends and yeah Red Kangaroos can be a real menace while driving, even if you stop for them they're just as liable to bounce up to your car and jump on it breaking the windows and leaving a sizeable dent or two. And can definitely lay a man out with a punch let alone a kick. Also they have this nasty habbit of drowning creatures, including people, so if you see em in a body of water you are not safe, you should leave. So yeah, Jon, sorry to say but real kangaroos are not like the Skippy propaganda you saw lol

Because you never got answers a pokie is a slot machine and a sex trophy is regrettably an infant. As in the trophy you receive for sex is getting pregnant, not the other much more insidious way you could understand using sex trophy to describe a child. If you want an example sentence "I met up with a sheila at the pokies, had a root and now she's up the duff with a sex trophy".

That mechanic of learning skills by talking to people is such a good thing three fold. First, it's free stuff, who doesn't like free stuff? Second, it incentivises the player to immerse themselves in the dialogue and role play. And third, it's grounded in reality. You can learn a lot by just talking to people, asking questions and listening. And that's a legit game mechanic. Something that you can just do, and it has a real effect on gameplay.

I like this idea that New Vegas is a "safe" post apocalypse as long as you stick to the roads. Because that's not really how I would describe a region where like half the roads are overrun with deathclaws and cazadors, and the other half is constantly under threat from the Legion.
@peterclarke7240
@peterclarke7240 Ай бұрын

Arguably the Legion isn't a threat on the road unless you are obviously affiliated with the NCR and they're even known to keep the roads safer. The Legion suck in general but I do remember that being one of their selling points was how well they kept the roads safe for traders. It's not like they even have any tolls up like they're running a protection racket as far as I recall.

@@mrcheesemunchwhere do those creatures come from? Cazadores IIRC came from the Big Empty where they were created. Did anything in the game stated that the death claws you meet migrated to the location recently? And even most of the truly nasty critters came recently, the raiders seem to have been proliferating for a while, and with the big players focused on fighting each other, have a free run on most roads.

'On the beach' by Neville Shute was a worldwide bestseller written at just about the time the truly horrific effects of fallout were first revealed to the public, 16 years after Hiroshima. By 1961, the Pentagon calculated that if WWIII kicked off, civilisation would be destroyed. The one place not targeted would be Australasia. However weather patterns would eventually sweep the fallout to that continent leading to the end of humanity. Shute's book explored what that would mean for Australians before End Times happened.

9:50 There's more than one kind of kangaroo, Skippy was a grey kangaroo, they're a lot smaller than the big Red Kangaroos you get in central Australia. An adult male Red Kangaroo can be about 2 meters tall.

Thanks for saying so! Hope you enjoy playing it. We've done a LOT of work since the pretty poor launch we had, and recently reached Very Positive on recent user reviews on Steam. There's more to come, and we've just added some excellent writing/quest design talent to the team (George Ziets and Olga Moskvina). Hope you enjoy. Also, any chance your username relates to Ultima Dragons? If so, you may notice some character creation easter egg from Ultima character creation :)

On the wondering who would nuke Australia, you got to remember that nowadays Australia is 100% subservient to the US military just like South Korea is. I had no idea about that either until I saw that video about breaking into Pine Gap (A US base that does top secret classified stuff in the middle of Australia)

@@torgranael Yep - our lore has that Aus is part of the new Allies and many of the usual suspects are part of the new 'Axis'. Long overdue doing a post about it/putting more lore in the wiki. We were limited (severely) from putting as much history in the game due to word count restrictions related to localisation costs. But we're going to keep expanding on the English content and reckon we need to explain this apocalypse a little more within the game itself :)
