This and Monkey Island were the first 2 adventure games I played, on console (Sega CD and PS1). It's still my favorite genre and it's probably because of the nostalgia. The games suck ass mostly. lol Even Broken Sword, my favorite adventure game, has the goat puzzle in it (as well as many other headaches). So yeah, they're annoying but I love them anyway. Kinda like kids. ;)

This brings back so many memories! I used to play this game alongside my grandmother (yes, my grandmother!), together with Monkey Island III, when I was little. I remember crying when the protagonist gets killed outside the hotel, I wasn't used to characters dying in point-and-click adventure games! I also remember being kinda obsessed with Latin and the ancient world in general thanks to this game (and Age of Empires too, of course). Now, 20 years later, I came back to see the old manuscript... and find out that the sentence in Latin is wrong! It should've been "Per disciplinam meam, lucem videbis".
@IseweinАй бұрын
Yeah it's kinda odd they didn't run that by a classicist. Likewise, in the DC the Latin inscription at the entrance of the secret meeting room is also lacking appropriate accusatives. There's a couple of mistakes in the Spanish too. Same In general, the game is quite historically grounded, so it's a shame those linguistic lapses undermine that somewhat.

@@nevemsenki5592 they added in bits and its jarring that the same VA wasn’t used for Nico. @KevinGeneFeldman4 жыл бұрын
@@RetroPixelLizard having only played half of both, the directors cut lets you play segments of the journalists story and shes modeled in fake 2D 3D. A lot of the animations have been cut down for no fathomable reason, they've inserted really awkward looking flash looking animation into the pre existing 2 2D animation cutscenes, dialogue has been rewritten in many cases for the worse, dialogue is now in tiny little boxes at the very top left and right of the screen next to still portraits (horrible), many puzzles are simplified like the pub and the goat, you can't die and one weird difference I noticed is the totem pole doesn't fall and break through the glass in the tripod display case in the directors cut.
@Xanthemew3 жыл бұрын
@@KevinGeneFeldman Also they censored the car crash with Fitzgerald by removing the blood. The reason for all these cuts is that the game was once ported over to the Nintendo DS and the small cartridge couldn't hold as much data. So a lot of filler talk and gameplay stuff, as well as graphical quality was cut down to make the game fit. The Director's Cut Version is based on that DS port instead of the original game.
@bonyack Жыл бұрын
@@KevinGeneFeldman The worst part is that they removed the deaths. They're handled very well in Broken Sword, especially compared to other adventure games and were usually funny to boot. Confronting Moerlin at the Bull's Head for example doesn't feel nearly as rewarding if the game doesn't let you fail at it.
