I had the same and bought a VASGOR 24" x 2.8" Solid Shaft Auger Drill Bit for Planting (amazon) that goes in electric drill. That thing TORE through clay and rocks like it was nothing and saved my back and made it soooo much easier deep in the hole.

For compacting the hole, you could put “some” water on the fill dirt also. Let it soak in, then tamp it again. Afterward, it won’t settle “as much.” Water combined with gravity are the main drivers of compaction over time.

Joel, another shovel that might have worked well for you in the tight space is an army foxhole shovel. I remember my Dad used to have one and it was small and compact with a point for digging. I can't remember for sure but I think it folded up for packing/carrying.

Awesome video. Thank you! Just curious but with a hole that small (pinhole), was the meter moving or was it not enough to trigger the meter? I ask because I'm experiencing the same issue on my lawn but my water meter is not moving but there's clearly water coming up from an underground pipe.

The meter was spinning like crazy with all the water shut off at my house. A little pinhole was costing my $600 in extra water usage....

We have so much clay and rocks here in Arkansas. I got annoyed just digging a hole for a small tree. I cannot imagine having to dig that far down!

In America, the home owner is responsible for any plumbing between the house and water meter.

Yes, but I had to turn it off at the meter. So we were without water for one night.

Is teflon tape the same thing as plumbers tape?

Yes, the whit or blue is for plumbing fixtures and the yellow id for gas lines.

Idk about Joel, but most people I know have a meter here in US. Wanted to ask you a question, with you being from the UK. I've seen UK TV series where people lose power,, so they go feed coins into a meter in there home to turn the electric back on. Is that the way it is for every home?

@@rachelgibson1858 no not anymore. In the uk you can either have a pre-payment meter or a normal meter with a bill each month. I have a pre-payment meter it cost me around £30 month for electric which is not to bad.

Actually about 5 years ago I lived in a house where we had a card and we had to go to the shop to “top up” our electric for £10. So I guess that’s like paying with coins. You’d use up the £10 and all lights and hot water would turn off so you’d know you needed to go back to the shop. Most people have had this system replaced though as it’s much easier to have a direct debit

I wouldn't have use thise pvc fittings or poly pipe. It will leak eventually. Hopefully you sell the place before it starts leaking again

One extra thing I would have done would have been, use a propane torch and heat up that black plastic pipe and then tighten the clamp down using full stainless steel clamps. I had them plastic pipes like that blow off before from the pressure. Let me tell you that sucks when that happens.

being an irrigation technician this hurts to see. those fittings being rotated in those main lines that are constantly under pressure is a big no no, along with hose clamps instead of oetikers =/ glad its not my house! hahah

If that black pipe is Polyethylene coil pipe. You might encounter a leak in the next decade. Should have used copper L.

I would not dig that deep by hand I would rent a mini excavator from sunbelt rentals and get one

I called all the rentals in the area, I would have had to wait two weeks... I really didn't want to dig that huge hole but it needed done.

Shouldn't of used that cheap farmers plastic and plastic barb set up, you'll be redoing that line in about 20-40 years, should of gone with cts pex,

it was my access to my new sprinkler valve. I need to cut it down, but I am waiting for any settling.
