My only constructive comment on this video would be that I don't think you stressed enough that people should not expect initially to be able to do anything close to what was shown in the video. In other words, people need to understand that when they first get a cast off they should only be moving their hand and wrist as much as is possible without creating actual pain. A certain level of discomfort is one thing, and that is to be expected during physical therapy or occupational therapy. However, when people are recovering from a wrist fracture and now have the cast off, they should not feel disheartened because they cannot do the exercises as they are shown in this here video. Any level of movement that they are able to accomplish is a good thing, and with each subsequent session of exercise they should try to push themselves a little bit more each time and eventually they will indeed see that they have a wider range of movement. But again ,you never want to do anything such that it will create actual pain for you.

2 months ago I've involved with a motorvehicular accident and because of that my wrist got broken (distal radius, dislocated, closed, comminuted, fractured). I went thru closed reduction operation and the Dr. wrapped a cast from my wrist to my elbow. It took for 6 weeks before they conduct cast removal. Today my cast have already removed and the status of my wrist is 70% healed but I need to undergo therapy after a week. The Dr. gave me 3 exercises (move the wrist forward and backward, tilt the wrist sideways and bicep curls). It really hurts and I cannot tolerate the pain. However as the time goes by the agony will be lessen if I get used to move my hand. Thanks for the informative demo.

How long did it take to go back to normal
@suddendallas4 жыл бұрын
@@eddie4321 Well that all depends on your physical therapy. I chose not to go to physical therapy, but if you are consistent with exercising your hand it should go back to mostly normal in 2 months. I was having some people tell me wait 12 weeks before starting strenuous exercise like push ups. It also depends on how much of a risk taker you are because even though I know it's fully healed at this point I still feel like if I crack my knuckles it'll shatter or something. xD

I have a distal radius/avulsion fracture in what I believe is called the traquetrum (?) bone in my wrist. After seeing the xrays of my hand, the doctor concluded that I only needed to have a cast for three weeks. Today the cast came off and while I have little to no swelling, I can't move my wrist like my other healthy wrist. Im speaking about my left wrist (thankful I'm a righty), I can't fully extended upwards or downwards, only a limited range, and the same goes for side to side. I experience light to moderate pain if I try to move the wrist in any of those directions. Hope these exercises work.

I’m glad there are people like you. I broke my wrist and had surgery to put a plate and 11 screws in it. The VA (Veterans Administration) hospital orthopedics took my cast off after 7 weeks with the break still broken (per X-ray). I was still not able to move my wrist at all and it hurt a ton. Over a month later in a brace, the pain is going away but I can’t move my wrist. They told me that when I return to ortho 9 weeks later they will then decide if I need pt. I hate the VA with a passion. I’m trying to find exercises to do on my own to get my range of motion back.

@terrahara39422 жыл бұрын
I have same issue, due to bad injury with fall causing tear of ligaments and right radius fracture. I just got my cast removed today, and to wear splint for next 4 weeks. My wrist can only turn inward - no more than 90 degrees, with nerve pain in soft tissues around wrist and lower palm (feeling strained like a sprain), right up through forearm - to elbow with half turn movement (feels like tendonitis). Interesting though, my osteo doc says right radius fracture is still healing). Still puffy hand, and fingers looking like swollen curled sausages. As I will be beginning with physio therapy, I am somewhat concerned if maybe too soon, if fracture not fully healed, and swelling still an issue. 🤔 Anyways, rather limited movement at home is otherwise prescribed by my doc ... gradually increasing over next couple weeks, by removing splint (up to 5 x's a day, for approx 5 minutes), and gently bend fingers to make a soft fist, and get fingers more mobile, but nothing strenuous - and that includes NO 'texting'... lol

My fracture was also close to the thumb suffered from a motorcycle accident. Basically I broke the tip off and had 2 pins put in to keep it in place. My cast came off this morning tho. He told me 3 weeks I should be good to go and gave me a wrist brace for the meantime but ive been trying to wear it as little as possible to speed up recovery.The only thing I'm having trouble doing is facing the palm of my hand up. I went stopped by the store after work and pushed a cart around for a bit and was ok. I can't imagine pushing multiple carts so soon after getting a cast off tho definitely shouldn't rush back until you are good and healed. But good luck my friend hope you have a speedy recovery.

Dr. Told me that I couldn't bend my wrist like I used to, but I still need rehab on it but can't afford a rehab place. My hand is on fire & I have severe pain with it. More than I had when I broke it. Why is that?...it won't let me sleep at night if I over use it during the day. Which isn't much...

Thanks for the video. I am from Morocco, my cas as follows; I had a broken wrist typically on my scaphoid; i had a surgery with bone graft from the hip; putting two wires within my scaphoid; and i have been in a cast for three months; then i removed the cast and the wires. now. I wonder how can i get back a fully bending motion of my wrist. would you mind telling me some useful exercices to do ? Much appreciated!

Broke both my wrists 3 months ago had right hand in a cast left hand in a splint....got the cast of about 3 to 4 weeks ago and still having trouble doing a lot of things,I have trouble getting up of a chair (its quite a low chair) carrying heavy things.I have osteoporosis 3 years before I fractured my cervix after a fall,the wrists happened by falling taking rubbish out to my bin,my place of work keeps calling me wanting to know when I am coming back,I do cleaning work well quite frankly I don't know if I can manage it anymore,before falling I was at the docs with pain in my lower back got anti inflamitory pills for it,my back isn't as sore just now so I know its my job...Think I am getting to old for it now god knows
