Howdy folks…today it’s the first instalment from my trip to Texas! I hope you find some enjoyment therein and thanks as always from the bottom of my beard for watching… If you’re back here for the next episode on Sunday, I’ll throw my hat over a windmill (apparently a Texan phrase for celebration). ‘Til then, stay insatiable! *This series was filmed between April 17th and May 8th.

I tried this challenge at a 'Broken Yolk', in Glendora, CA. It was the worst breakfast I had ever been served -- let alone any challenge. The chefs must've been hockey fans, because the biscuits were pucks. The potatoes were 'dry' for fried potatoes.

As others have commented, jam is perfectly normal on biscuits. Butter, honey, jams or jelly’s, etc. my favorite though is sausage gravy, or as you’ve described it before as a peppery bechamel. It basically is a bechamel but usually made using the fat from cooking the sausage and then adding pepper and crumbled sausage in. At least that’s how I make it. Lol

Biscuits with butter and jam are definitely the norm in the South of the US. A lot of people eat a dish called biscuits with gravy. It’s open-faced biscuits slathered with a white peppered gravy with crumbled sausage. I love it with a side of grits and scrambled eggs. You get bonus points if you spoon a bit of the sausage gravy on top of the grits.🤤

I love your videos! It's amazing watching you eat so much food. One thing I don't understand is: if you don't like mushrooms, why don't you eat other food with them or pour sauce on the mushrooms, instead of eating them separately? I would think you'd mask the taste that way. Perhaps you have a reason. Anyway, keep up the great work! Oh, one other thing, have you had (flakey) biscuits and sausage gravy? My favorite is from Bob Evans restaurant. I highly recommend you try them if you haven't, yet.

Yes, jam is normal on biscuits in the US. Ketchup on hash browns? Not so much, but that's never stopped me from adding it to mine until I get a nice, blood-redvideo! Despite the stares. Yum. They're just jealous, I guess. Great job! Love your vids!

Fun fact, when I first moved to Texas I was always asked if I wanted jelly for my Sausage egg and cheese biscuits. and I never knew why.... it's a southern thing, and no one cares if you jelly or jam a biscuit even if it has meat on it.

As a Texan I can confidently tell you, putting “jam” or as we say “jelly” on a biscuit is NOT weird or abnormal! However growing up, I put jelly/jam on my hash browns. That was only when my family was on a vacation road trip and we stopped at McDonalds for breakfast.

As a texan, jam and jelly are two different things.
@XBluDiamondX
@XBluDiamondX 11 ай бұрын
@@Mike_Dubayou Doesn't matter if Texan or Martian. Jam and jelly are two separate and distinct things. Jam is made from all edible parts of a fruit whereas jelly is made from fruit juice. This affects the look, texture, and what it is best used for (one for savory and the other for desserts/pastries).

Pretty normal here in the states to put all manner of sweet or savory toppings on biscuits. Jam is not at all unusual. Honey butter is my favorite. Gravy is popular of course, and also egg sandwiches on biscuits. Pretty versatile.
