"Red Dust" Another outer space adventure from the 50's sci fi TV anthology series Tales of Tommorow. The first human mission to Alpha Centauri loses 2 astronauts on a red dust-covered planet, which once had an advanced civilization. Due to allergies, neither of the shipmates who perished got the required anti-radiation shots, so the remaining crew who had aren't worried about their own return to Earth. But then the red dust starts to appear everywhere on the space ship. thought provoking science fiction
on a low budget. good stuff. review by Broken Trout

This TV show was made in the early 1950s, I was born in 1960. Many of the ideas and theories portrayed in the episodes, in my opinion, are very advanced for a limited budget and a 70 year old TV show. They do make mistakes but I have noticed mistakes in recent and present Science fiction TV shows and movies.

@For Truth Not necessarily. A real life scientist isn't like in the movies. The specialize in specific fields. And honestly, most of them are NOT pompous jerks who think they know everything. Both my brother and sister are technically "scientists" but they are both pretty good people. Okay. My sister, not so much. My brother works in micro biology and my sister does research and teaches some on biology at the University in Hawaii. And all the other scientists I've met are actually really cool people, just like you and me. They just usually have a thirst for knowledge.

@@BrokenTrout In the early 50's ABC was in nearly the same shape as Dumont, an impoverished network. A little later, ABC was bought by the Paramount Theater chain (NOT the Studio by the same name, they were 2 separate entities by then, it's complicated and beyond the scope of this post) but the Paramount buyout saved ABC, and greatly improved it's capital situation.

The Sci-Fi channel used to show these on late night Friday, or Saturday (1994-95). I taped alot of them as they're goodly written, and cleverly acted😊!!! Yeah, they're low budget, but look at today's, Hollywood's 'TOP' production's 🤭. On my copies, there's no commercials, or anything between. But look at the very last commercial, for savings bonds. It says "For every $3, you put in, and in TEN YEARS, you will receive $4". FOUR, LOUSY DOLLARS⁉️ Today, it would equivalent to approx, $12 fixed for inflation, for every $36, dollars invested 🙄.

A spaceship is returning to Earth after visiting Alpha Centauri, a dust covered planet with no life, but where once lived an advanced civilization. Two of her crew died on the alien world, but a red dust will seal the fate of the survivors on this mission. This was an excellent psychological drama taking place aboard a spaceship, showing how people react under stressful situations. This is from 1952, a time when you used your imagination and could make believe what you were seeing was true. No budget for special effects, no spacesuits for the actors, and you have to laugh at some of it, like a liquor bar on the spaceship where an astronaut can get a drink, Scottie from Star Trek would love that. Red Dust is the earliest film I know of where they talk about astronauts being contaminated and the possibility of infecting the Earths population. Good early science fiction TV and worth watching.

This drama was done "live", and had several on-screen mishaps, but the tension was maintained despite the simple script. The plot was derivative of John Campbell's novella "The Thing".

There was a movie in the late sixties with a similar theme and situation called Green Slime. This was picked up by astronauts exploring a planet and brought aboard their space craft. This goo began to reproduce and spread attacking the crew until they were overcome one by one - similar to the Star Trek episode, The Trouble With Tribbles, (however these were a much cuter invasive species) Disturbing as these two shows were they took it to a whole new level in the original 1979 movie Alien....

My best guess on the acting and it's just that, is that this show was probably produced in New York, and the directors they got in New York were more likely to be stage directors, who directed so the guy in the back row could follow what was going on. Television has no back row. You need TV/Film directors for television because stage acting looks fine on stage, but it looks like gross overacting on TV.
