The one thing we don’t do in trucking is the salvation of trucking. So with our new up n coming administration we can make some noise to create true broker transparency and see before we book a load what the shipper is paying the broker. Justin wished i knew you were coming up my way to look at the freightliner cabover would have liked to met you. i live about 9 mikes from I77 and 150 exit good luck with the Freightliner Cabover i worked at the Freightliner plant in Mt Holly worked on many of the COE's in my time. So here’s a naive question from someone not in the industry. What are the advantages to a longer wheel base in trucking? Watching your videos, some of these pick up and drop off sites have minimal maneuver room. Wouldn’t a shorter wheel base be more advantageous all the way around? Does it give you a better ride in the cab keeping the tongue weight further back?

I see some of these docks, alleys etc. Appears like a long wheelbase would be more of a detriment than anything in the trucking industry.

I’m not in the industry, but my best friend was. When you’re on the road for days at a time, you may only have a handful of pickup and deliveries over a week or two week period. Backing into a loading dock is minutes. The smoother ride and driver comfort far outweighs the hassle of accessing the loading dock. Also - lots of drivers functionally live in their trucks. Their sleeper is their kitchen, bedroom, and living room all in one. Long wheelbase trucks give opportunities for extended sleeper options. Worked for a company that had computer parts going Coast to Coast weekly. Our dedicated drivers making those runs had HUGE sleepers.

Wheel base depends on you needs. Longer wheel base is ideal for open bed oversize operations. Overhang to front. Shorter wheelbase is ideal for urban locations tighter turning radius.less tare weight.

A lot of brokers out there, they don’t require something stupid, also there are some stupid brokers that require stupid things if you want to book their load, don’t work with them, happen to me also, I’m book the same load pay higher difference broker, and still make good $$$
