Good luck. Very few people will address that in their lifetimes. Most people, even understanding the issue, will ignore it even if they wish to do it. I only knew one person in my life who liquidated before they died. Everyone else, did what we mostly do, and just leave it to others when we die.

This tip helped me. Check the pockets. Found a valuable ring that would’ve been cleared out without painstaking attention to detail. Slow down. Tell people you’re in charge if they try to get you to speed up.

Thanks for all of the info. My sister and I are going through this right now. Not junk, not hoarding. But lots of stuff. My SIL found some very valuable jewelry in my MIL's underwear drawer. My husband and I found $1500 cash inside a hollow copy of Wuthering Heights. It has been exhausting to close out my in-laws' estate and a huge part of the difficulty has been the amount of STUFF we brought home with us. 😢

Though in my situation, no will, three siblings including one deceased, the other two having had strokes in past four years, there's no help but myself, let alone input. My own health is drained from brothers things that past away four years ago, along with other medical issues not to mention. Mom's sisters are absent since 40 yrs now plus, and her grand children offered to assist, though haven't gone through not one box since her passing Sept. 2020. I've no complaints, though where do I go from here? Feel like stopping the process of personal rep. or if appointed advocate donating house and 30 yrs. of interesting valuables to PBS. Help! My sister has indicated that she wants me to be the sole heir of her belongings when she passes. She has no children. We have 2 other sisters from whom we are both estranged. I don’t think she has a Will.. she rents her apt… she has an older car and a few antiques but mostly just her personal belongings and .. she has debt. If I agree to act as her executor, I believe I will need to declare her estate insolvent since I’m pretty certain that her debts outweigh her assets. If there is anything left after selling off her belongings, will the court grant to me some reimbursement for the work of inventory on her personal belongings, filing to the court and contacting her creditors (precedence over anything left to distribute to creditors)? Or I’m I stuck putting in all that effort for no reward?

AA, Since your state that your sister has little in her “estate”, you would most likely put in a lot of work for little reward if any…I would recommend you speak with your sister and verify if she does have anything of value in her estate and if she does, minimally she should draft a will naming you as her heir. My wife's aunt had 18k (age 93) in cash at the bottom of a laundry hamper. Aunt's brother had a few gold coins in a can of misc. stuff. We looked in her refrigerator and in the veggie bin, there were two bank money bags....full of potatoes...oh well!

Hi Kira, I found mine through an estate sale company. Most of the time after estate sales, there are items that did not sell and estate sale companies can liquidate the items via a buyout company. Hope that helps!

As an Executrix is it a good idea to shut off the water & electric if your going through probate? The house is currently vacant/Unoccupied with Insurance & I cannot rent it out due to some house repairs at the moment.

No, I would not shut off the water and electrical for the property. You'll need the utilities on for anyone who is interested in buying the property to show, so continue to leave it on. @@ProbateandTrustHelp I don't want to sale the property. He had a small estate. What happens if his ex wives don't get there money because it's running low from all his expensive? Could they sue me if there isn't any money left from after attorney fees & estate taxes, inheritance taxes etc?

Hi Rachael, whatever remains of the estate after all expenses are paid is what the beneficiaries are entitled to. Expenses would included taxes and attorney fees, you're also entitled to get paid though i will admit the amount is not substantial. Keep good documentation of the finances for the estate to keep yourself in the clear. If you're unsure how to do this I have some other videos on this channel that discuss that subject, you can also speak with your attorney and see if they can offer you some guidance. good luck to you.
