Bromborough Power Station, Wirral

I visited the old abandoned Bromborough Power Station today to have a look round and take some photographs and footage.
It took us a little while to find it but it was well worth the search.
I was amazed by the control room and other buildings that still had alot of old control stations and machinery left behind.

In the early 1960’s I was an apprentice mechanical fitter in the lever brothers power stations, as well as other dept., within the local Unilever group. There were 2 which provided Lever bros., Port Sunlight factory with electric and steam power. One was called Central power station (CPS) on Commercial road at the bottom on the right, down by the river Mersey, the other was called Merseyside power station (MPS) on Thermal road, that site is now Great Bear warehouse. The 3rd was actually called Bromborough power station, on Power road. I believe it was part of the national electricity grid, now I think Tulip factory and others occupy that site. Part of the concrete quayside is still standing, where the coal was offloaded from ships for Bromborough power station, now a small car park for viewing across the river and access to Eastham woods etc.

Fascinating.Brings back memories.Used to drive the m.p.t.e. busses into power station grounds in the 70s and pick up the workers .The bus route was 51 A B C D OrE cannot remember. Wife's father was security on gates in the 50s .coincidence.35 years before we met.But great videos keep them coming Best Regards.
