40s 50s Wirral in colour

Beginning at Parkgate, this lovely film takes us to Burton, Port Sunlight, West Kirby, we follow a cycle race through Thurstaston, Arrow Park, Irby Village, Black Horse Hill and back to Thurstaston for the finish. Finally we visit the 'Wirral Archers' near Barnston, all in lovely colour cine film.

Brilliant film! I was keeping an eye out during the cycle race and wondering was my Great Uncle Don (Donald Spraggett, Birkenhead North End Team) riding there. I know he was very active back then and I believe some of his time trial records stood for a very long time. He may have passed away a long time ago but he's not forgotten. And in answer to one of the other comments Wirral was Cheshire until 1974, I was made in Cheshire but born in Merseyside, without leaving the village. Beautiful to see it in colour, thank you.

I ride round the wirral and know a few BNEC lads, it's fascinating to see it go back that far! Nice to know people realised how good the wirral is for riding, even back then!

Fire was on the marsh, was bad and near some houses. But from ariel film it doesn't look that big an area fortunately, arson by kids as expected. Good hiding old school wouldn't do anything like it again , put fear of God into em.

I know, every window and door is white uPVC, either white or it's those drab grey windows you see popping up all over the place now. Why would anyone want grey windows on their house? I suppose it's all down to the companies who make them and sell them, when someone buys something everyone else copies them. Even garden furniture like sheds and garden fences seem to be painted in that drab grey colour now as if there is only one colour of garden paint you can buy in the shops. And another thing we didn't need back then was CCTV cameras outside peoples homes. Again, I feel this is down to the companies who make and sell the things, if they didn't noone would be able to buy the damn thing and made to feel like their home needs to be under 24/7 video surveillance, I doubt anyone bothers to check their video recordings, plus the police do bugger all about it anyway. To think back then people left their front doors open, now everyone acts like their home is Fort Knox. This cannot be good for the community people living in fear of being burgled and being made to be suspicious of their neighbours. I feel this is all deliberate to break down and destroy society.
