Oh man this really makes me appreciate how straight forward road bikes are in terms of taking them apart and putting them back together.

Not really. Brompton’s are very particular in certain areas. Your statement makes it seem like it is like any bike, even here he stated it is unique

Mine is also a 6 speed and I tried a metal tensioner before my first "free" Service! It didn't fit, till I found one sized as the original, which now functions with the original plastic wheels, for less noise. It seems that Brompton has often changed sizes so I had difficulty in finding the correct size titanium bolts for my brakes. I have changed several parts but still misses a few on those for a final result. But for now it is down to 9,35 kilo and I have found out that the metal clamps holding the titanium stays on the mudguards, are really "Heavy Metal" so I have found sets from carbon and alu, to be replaced, when I get the time! I felt unfortunate when I saw a Brompton was greased with motorcycle grease... This is an excellent bike that can be used for decades. But very satisfied when I saw that it was resolved eventually with professional skills and care. It's hard to find professional bike services in Hong Kong, and many of them are overpriced. I hope one day I can visit Lowestoft with my Brompton. Thanks for the sharing!

Hi guys enjoying your videos. Have you ever worked on a childs bike. I've just restored a Carrera cosmos 14. It was fun and strange to be working on such a small bike. They have a very unusual plastic chain guard with some weird fixings. I donated this to a local primary school making a child very happy. Keep those bike videos coming guys.

I personally recommend purchasing the Premium Brompton Service from brompton, as I know they can be trusted to handle your bike with care and replace most of the parts (if your Brompton is still under warranty). You have to be cautious about who you trust with your Brompton-not all Brompton dealers are reliable, to be honest. I’m speaking from personal experience.

For hobby use it’s fine. But commercially it’s not cost effective per litre, it’s fairly expensive.

Great stuff! I'd love every bike or car mechanic was so meticulous with service. Where can you find torque values for the Brompton bolts and nuts? Also for your wet wipe cleaning, what do you soak wipe in?
Could you please tell me what cleaning products you use for a bike frame? Just to get (black smudges etc' off. Is that a polisher or how do you do it? thanks in advance!
@Bikespeeds3 жыл бұрын
If you watch our restoration videos we’re able to go much more in depth than on a service, and in those videos we do actually use multiple products and then a polish! kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3_chXtmoN13kKc

Seems like a very complicated gearing system just to get 6 speeds, especially as you'd think they'd want simplicity to aid with the folding? Must be doing something right as they're a popular bike I believe! Great video as usual too. Cheers
@effyleven3 жыл бұрын
Actually, it is a very simple way to turn a 3-speed hub gear into a 6-speed version, just by adding a second sprocket, and a mechanism to switch between 'em. Remember, it is a folding bike, so the chain tensioner itself has to be there anyway. The extra parts to make the tensioner into an actual derailleur shifter are pretty light and small.. (well, they are when Brompton design them.)
@grahamricketts-bq1ft10 ай бұрын
you do end up with some weird gear spacings though, the jump between what I guess you would call 5th and sixth is bonkers. Guess I need to ride it less like what you would call a road bike with conventional double up front and rear mech ?@@effyleven
@effyleven10 ай бұрын
"Bonkers spacing between 5th and 6th"? I don't understand your comment. The gear spacing on my 6-speed seems even and well-spaced from top to bottom, at least, to me. I have the standard 50-tooth chainring with standard Brompton Sturmey Archer Wide Range hub.
@OjStudios6 ай бұрын
I'd say "the proper way" to use the gears is by using (1- 1+ 2- 2+ 3- 3+) so after each 16t to 13t rear cog change you would change the internal gear at the same time while dropping back to 16t.. if this makes any sense. This way the ratios are not all over the place.

Nice - just discovered your channel. Two questions - how much did this service cost the customer? What ultrasonic parts cleaner are you using? I can't decide which one to buy and I hear some work better than others.

We’ve had quite a few over the years from cheap (middle isle of supermarkets) to extremely expensive (elma) but one thing I’ve learnt is they all die! None last long (for a day in day out user, like us) but we’ve currently settled on using machines available from www.allendale-ultrasonics.co.uk they seem to be the happy medium between price and usage

Wouldn't spinning the bars 360 degrees have sorted the cables out?
@Bikespeeds3 жыл бұрын
No, for the Bromptons to fold they have to come on the left side of the bars & right side of the frame, the owner was under the impression they had been replaced previously before he was recommended to us but had been cut to short, which I’ve no doubt about.
